I keep a lot of my quotes around, just for kicks. I actually stick some of them on Facebook as 'Matthew Quote of the Day' things. Enjoy...

---------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, people don't take kindly to a teenage guy who quotes himself. (I'm going for the irony here.)

You are learning well and quickly, and that is an admirable thing.
*end Hemingway moment*

Zest is defined as vigorous and enthusiastic enjoyment. This cannot be applied to fishing, unless maybe if you're fishing for sharks...from an inner tube.

Throttle is when you wedge someone's throat under the gas pedal of a car and push it down.

Contrary to popular belief. I really am a romantic at heart...

I figured out why my screen is so smudged. It's all the bugs smashed onto it.

Blaring music by Thomas Bergersen through noise-canceling headphones in the middle of the night is an experience just about on par with thinking about the person you have a crush on.
Not that I have a crush, mind you, I just know what it feels like.

Sure. *rides off into the sunset*
Wait. We still have a few more chapters to write. *rides back out of the sunset*

Smells like a challenge to me...and you know what I do with challenges. I eat them for...dessert.

Irony: When the two-year-old calls the whining five-year-old a baby.

Tomorrow morning I have to wake up 25 hours after I fell asleep last night.

*in the mood for some loud music* ... *turns on Paramore* ... *turns volume way down*

Mmm. Ain't nothin' quite like a good ol' hunk of mangled, burnt cow with cheese, ketchup, tomato, and sweet onion between round pieces of bread.

I can finally spell miscellaneous! Is it weird that I learned to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia before I could spell miscellaneous?

I finally figured out how I could play the piano at my own wedding. I need to build a time machine so my future self can come back and play the piano while I'm getting married...

I am me. There's only one person in the world like me, and that's me. If you meet another me, he's an imposter.

That's always how it goes. I'm tired in the late afternoon and evening, and then I'm very alert for half the night. Then I sleep like a piece of roadkill for the rest of the night and most of the morning...

I also tend to trim my beard from time to time, contrary to popular belief.

My mind is like a cross between a huge warehouse and a black hole.

Okay, now this is just sad. The Hat has 23 fans. Luke Alistar has 14. I'm trying to be MORE famous than my own hat! Why is it so hard?

I try not to make excuses. Excuses are for wimps with insecurity and indecisiveness problems.

I think pretty much anyone who comes into contact with me has ended up laughing.

Stephen: “Uh…Mother said to drive slower than you want to.”
Me (going fifty-five on an unmarked and somewhat twisty country road) - “I am! I’m going a lot slower than I want to.”

The subject of an email I got from Writer's Digest: Science-Fiction Author John Scalzi Explains How Not to Be Boring
My solution: Join HW.

(On the subject of cutting off a friend's beautiful red hair and sending it to someone for safekeeping...)
Timothy - Whoever holds the cut hair will be cursed with the vengeance of Jane and will probably not live long.
Me: Send it to Obama.

A friend: Similar people never seem to get along very well.
Me: That's why I get along with everybody.

On the subject of me using the internet instead of focusing on editing my novels:
Quote:
Timothy: Want me to get a team together to hack your computer and deny you internet access?

Me: Nah. My father can do that really quick if I ask him to.

Timothy: And that's probably more legal. Or at least would take less detanglement to prove its legality.

My father: *laughs menacingly*

Me: I am so disturbed.

My father: I can even do it from here at work.

Me: Oh, the power this one man holds! We must give the power back to the people. Democracy! Give me liberty or give me death!
Okay, maybe not death...

My father: Can you imagine democracy in our house? The children 12 and under could vote in anything they want.

Me: Their votes would only count for a quarter.

My father: If democracy were by weight, then yes, you would probably get most of what you want.

Me: You and me both.

Me and my best friend:
Quote:
Me: But when I'm around you, I'm around your family, and then I'm REALLY the odd one out since I'm at least a foot taller than any of you. Haha.

Samii: XD True. My dad is 5'6" so not QUITE a full foot taller than him.

Me: Ah. CLOSE!

Samii: With your hat on you are probably a full foot taller.

Me: Add the boots and it's a foregone conclusion.

Samii: O_O

Me: Yeah...6' 7" with my boots on. ^_^

Samii: You terrify me.

Me: Aw. *takes off boots* You know those big huge teddy bears?

Samii: Yes?

Me: I'm one of them. Packed into a formidible-looking shell to scare off people who aren't nice to you.

Some more quotes. Not all are from conversations, but may be random observations I've had in the middle of the night or while writing or both...

----------------------------------------------

If you use too many twenty-dollar words, your writing becomes expensive.

I write stories in the inimitable style of McManus.

The only thing special about philosophers is that they know how to state the obvious in short, profound sentences.

I’m optimistic, but I’m always wrong.

I’m sarcastic all the time.

I’m so creative I could come up with a plethora of wrong answers.

A writer is a debater who has to argue for and against both sides of a topic on his own.

Love to live and live to love.

Find wisdom and everything will fall into place. Find love and it all falls apart again.

I think a writer’s mantra should be, “Always act like a character…interesting enough to write a story about.”

I read books like I read people. I look past the imperfections and into the heart behind them.

My inspiration is like rain. It soaks me and everything around me, and takes a while to dry up when the sun comes out.

Quantity makes quality, but only if you take the time to edit.

It was one of those really brief momentary ‘whoa’ sensations.

Two sesquipedalians sitting in a specimen of perennial arborous flora, O…S…C…U…L…A…T…I…N…G.

The world is a beautiful place, unless you close your eyes. Then it's easy to assume it's all black.

Eloquence, like maturity, is a thing only developed through experience. Anyone can use words and use them well; only those devoted to learning can use words in the sharp and pure style that distinguishes a master in his craft.

The power of words is the power of change. Like a flood in the desert a great story surges into our lives and upsets what we thought we knew. It washes away the dust in our hearts and reveals something buried—showing us things we might never have known and challenging our naïve comfort. It takes us away to a new place and when we return home our world looks forever different.

Rules for my books:
1. If writing the first draft doesn't make me cry, it isn't even good enough to edit.
2. If I didn't cry while editing, it needs a lot of work.
3. If reading the latest draft doesn't make me cry, I need to edit again.

What happened happened to happen so we'll have to be happy with how it happened.

Too much is always enough.

Live your life with the same intensity you have while following your nose to your favorite hot meal after fasting for a few days.

The writer is made for writing, the artist made for art. The musician is made for music, and the comedian made for laughs. Fathers made to lead, pastors made to preach—every person is made for something, and what you’re made for, do it well. Use your gift and point to God; you don’t have to sing in a church, to worship the one who made us all.

You care so much, and I can see. It shines through you like the sun through a cut diamond. Jesus is the Sun, you are the diamond. You might have flaws but you're beautiful nonetheless. Maybe I see the bits of rainbow scattered on the walls brighter than others can because my heart is the same.

A person who is young at heart and brimming with enthusiasm brings a fresh summer breeze with them to every hell-hole they visit.

Those with deep compassion for others make themselves vulnerable to the same fears, the same hurt and the same heartbreak. Those who continue to show sympathy despite their own pain are the heroes walking through fire to rescue helpless victims trapped in a burning house.

I laughed so hard when the democracy one happened. I'll have to ditto Brendan that my best quotes come when I'm not trying to be quoteable.

Here's another one from today:

I remember when our Borders store opened and I saw the sign that said it was a books, movies, music, and coffee shop...it was like angels came down and opened a tourist bus route to heaven.

o.O That's. . . the most mature thing I've ever said on Holy Worlds. (And that last sentence sounds like something that belongs in the "Crazy Fantasy Writers" thread.)

I was ROARING through the end of Luke's post, Airi. I think the red hair and Obama started it.

It's an entire poem!

 "Piranhas for sale!
Now how about that?
They're the only fish
that won't get touched by your cat.
They'll clean up your leftovers,
they'll keep burglars away.
They'll make sure rude houseguests
decide not to stay.
They'll attract tons of kids,
though they might not last long.
And now come to think of it
that thought is just wrong.
And yes there are dangers,
I know are quite real.
They might just well decide
that you're their next meal.
But hey what is life, without a piranha?
Most people don't live that way,
most people don't wanna.
So saddle up here and buy a fine fish!
We got big ones and little ones
any kind you wish!
We got kinds for tanks
and kinds for dish,
kinds that can grant you
a magical wish,
we got kinds that are black
and kinds that are grey
and... hey why are you going away?" -Inesdar

“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” –C. S. Lewis

Pfft... Don't be silly, Emethith. They won't slaughter you...they'll use your vampiric dragons instead. ;)

Disclaimers are good things though. * nods * It's just...only on HW would the thought of someone being obsessive over cute, cuddly baby dragons not be considered odd.

'Scuse me, but all baby vertebrates are cute and cuddly... Just because crocodiles are adorable as children doesn't mean they won't eat your face as so as they have the power. *is okay with parasitic vampire dragons that are deceptively cute and cuddly as juveniles*
