Hi there people! I'm Krista, and just as the rest of you, I enjoy writing.
Currently I am writing a story about the spiritual gifts, and directing it towards the younger age group (10-18), without hardly any romance. Mom and I have realized how there aren't many books for the younger kids (10-15) that have a good spiritual message, and often they have romance. While I haven't complete X'ed romance out of this story... it'll be mild in comparison.
The Spiritual Gifts are hard to work with, since there are many things that they encompass, so if there are any tips or anything that you guys could give me I would like that!

I am going to be a Senior this year, though currently I am still a Junior in high school. I will be going to Campelsville University after I graduate, and I plan on majoring in Journalism so that I can write for a living. I;ll be taking art as my minor.

I love horses, and hopefully will get my first job ever this year at a barn. I'm excited about that because I love to work with them.

Any who, this is kind of mainly me...
not too interesting, but I like it!
Promised

Hi Krista!

Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy our... uh, zaniness, here on, to quote Neil of Erk, "quite possibly the strangest messaging board in the world". Or something like that. :D

Your book sounds interesting. I take it you are writing it as a novel. Does that mean that you have each spiritual gift assigned to one character? Hmm, that's just my guess. Anyways, it sounds very cool. :D

I agree with you about the romance thing, even though I like a little in the background of fantasy novels. :D I don't mind it if there's a little bit, but I can't stand full-blown romance novels; yuck. But since you're writing to a younger audience minimal romance is definitely a good idea. (I consider anyone under twelve to be young, but maybe that's because I'm thirteen. :D)

Glad to have another horsey person on here! I'm currently working as a volunteer at a stable, grooming and lungeing a horse there. What kind of things have you done with horses before? What type of riding do you favor?

I'm curious, where did your username "Promised" come from?

In Christ,
~ Evensong

Thank you for welcoming me!

My story is kind of a novel, but it'll be a series of stories if I get things going right. The characters each will have their own spiritual gifts, yes; each on has one particular gift. Like Yosha (the main character of my first story) has the gift of Wisdom, while their teacher (Moran) has the gift of teaching/preaching.

As for horses, I worked at a summer camp on the horse crew for 5 weeks, and have done some lessons, and a show. I've done lunging, and riding, and 'catching' horses.

Promised is my take on life. I've been promised many things by God, and I am promised to a man that I have yet to meet. God has promised to be there with me, that He'll never leave me. He's promised me a 'good' life as long as I obey His commandments... the list goes on.

Welcome Krista!
I too have quite an interest in spiritual gifts and have learned several interesting things during my past semester at Bible college. Your story sounds very intriguing.
How many gifts are you using?
Do you use gift-mixes in your story, or strictly one gift per character?
Once again, welcome!
In Christ,
Jordan

Welcome to HW, Krista. That's a cool idea for your story, assigning spiritual gifts to each character, but I too am wondering how many and which gifts you are using. :D

I am only using the nine main gifts:
Wisdom: Seeing life from God’s perspective

Knowledge: Comprehending Christ and His word

Faith: Visualizing what God wants to accomplish; the result of hearing the Word of God as it is proclaimed and taught

Healing: Removing diseases from the spirit, soul, or body
Diseases of the spirit:
Bitterness
Greed
Guilt
Diseases of the soul:
Discouragement
Worry
Jealousy
And other destructive attitudes

Miracles: Natural or supernatural events with precise timing to bring glory to God

Prophecy: Bringing to light secret motives of the heart

Discernment: Recognizing what is of God vs. the world, the flesh, and the devil

Tongues (languages): Glorifying God through languages and music

Interpretation of tongues: Understanding of tongues

And each of the characters will also exhibit the nine graces as well:

Love
Joy
Peace
Longsuffering
Gentleness
Goodness
Faith
Meekness
Temperance

From this description they kind of sound like the perfect characters, goody-two-shoes, really, but believe me, they each have their shortcomings. I plan on making it like they are fine on their own because they have the strength of God, but they are infinitely better and more complete in their gifts when they are all together. Also, I have a wide variety of villains for them to interact with as well.
There are nine good guys/girls so each one has a specific gift. Like Kenan has the gift of tongues, but the bible says that that gift shouldn't be used in public places unless there is an interpreter, so to show the importance of not being able to have one without the other I have the person that has the gift of interpretation of tongues as his little sister Anila.
They are also young characters, so the reader will be able to grow with them and be able to learn from their mistakes, and hopefully see how they too can live like this with the help of Adonai.

Also, a little note: all of the names used in this story, from the towns/villages, to the people are all Hebrew!

Welcome to HW!

Wow! I like your idea, I would love to read something like that :D

Welcome Promise! I like your idea for the story with the spiritual gifts, I'd like to see some of that! :)

As for the icons, you get them in UCP (user control panel -- at the top right of the page) > Profile (in the box at the left of the page) > Edit Avatar (again, in the box at the left of the page) > Display Gallery (under "Current Image"). And then you can choose one from the galleries displayed in the drop-down menu. :D

Thanks Lady Eruwaedhiel, I found it shortly after I posted that! What a blond I am! If you guys would like I could post some excerpts from my story on here... maybe. But I'm still trying to get used to the layout of this thing, so I don't even know if there is a place to do that on here.

There is a place. Go to the index page. All you have to do scroll down and it is one of the forums. It is titled "Story Excerpts for Discussion." :D

Don't mention it. :D I remember when I first got on the forum and had no clue where anything was. Thankfully, my sister is PotK (Princess of the King) and she had been on the forum for a while already.

I'd say you lucked out! I'm really looking forward to being here, though. I've been on other forums (The Rebelution {met Emeth there}), but never on that was catered specially to writing. I like it already!

Hi Promised! Welcome to Holy Worlds. I can tell you're going to fit in well already.

So you love horses too? It sure seems like we have a lot of horse lovers on here (me included.) :D

I am going to be a senior too this year, and am struggling to figure out what I want to do with my life. Although I do believed I've already figured out the being a writer part. You said you were going to take journalism for college. Have you ever thought about taking a literature class?
