It was, but I figured it out, and I think the story is a lot stronger for it. :book: God is good!

I'm wondering if I can reach 50k this week...

Well, to reach that goal I'd need to do about 2k a day through Saturday... which is easily doable, as I've proved with Cogs. :) So we'll give it a shot. :D

Nice scene Phili! Now I want to know who everyone is! Why were George and Maria in hiding? And what's Mark's agenda? (feel free to answer or not answer those questions as you see fit).

The writing was excellent, the only problem I might see was the introduction which felt a little cliché. Otherwise, beautifully written ans suspenseful.

Thank you very much, Brendan! Yes, I had a little trouble deciding what tone to take with the first three or so paragraphs, but it'll come out in the wash when I line-edit.

Short version: When Mark's uncle killed the king and queen of Alaidia, George and Maria, two servants, escaped with the prince, Nathan. They've been hiding for ten years, while Edric claimed they were dead. Mark, who has been named as Edric's heir, was in their village for other business (which resulted in a battle - another facet of the story!) and found Maria, but Nathan had already fled. Mark's goal right now is to keep an eye out for Nathan without making anyone suspicious - and without telling his uncle.

Thank you very much. :D Mark is a fine line to walk because he's very enigmatic, but I think with God's grace it will turn out well.

I made it! Yesterday I cleared 50k on the draft. :D On Tuesday I wrassled with a complicated scene which was 4k in and of itself, so yesterday I polished two long (but much easier!) scenes and got it over 50k. Judging by how much plot I have left, I don't think that's quite half, but it's close. :D

God is good!

*chuckles at her boys *

Well, I have forced myself into writing 3,114 words to one of the very difficult scenes I have left to write. I want to get it finished today (maybe another 1,500 words?), and start on the next. We shall see how it goes. I am fairly satisfied with what I have, thus far, in the scene. We shall see if I continue to be satisfied. ;)

Mwah ha! I got a scene done. *brushes dust off her shoulders * No, not the scene I was working on, but it was one of the three that needed to be finished. :D So, I am down to 2. :D Or rather... 1 and 1/2? Anyway, we'll say two, just so it looks like I get more done. ;)

I also finished getting all my chapters set in the second book. Things are progressing nicely, I suppose. I will be very happy if I get that other scene out of the way, though, so wish me God's blessing. :D

*grins * I am down to one scene left to write before my second draft of The Diegosian Rider is complete. :D I am well on my way to achieving my November goal, so long as nothing derails me. Which would mean by beta readers may get their copy of draft three by December. ;)

Once this last scene is out of the way, I’ll breeze through the third draft. :D

Death won't stay between me and the awesome story. It'd be too scared of the consequences. ;)

Airianna, you should be ashamed of yourself! See how many people you kill? How do you live with yourself and this murderous tendency? ;)

I'm so dearly happy for your accomplishment, Airianna. I know what a relief and joy it is to meet a goal like that! :D

Keep it up for the rest of the month!

The deaths are indirect. They cannot hold up in a court of law. ;)

I plan to. :D

My goal for this month is to do another draft of Firmament and send it to a few more test readers (including my parents). I also want to slowly keep writing on Machiavellian.

City of Lies.
City of Lies.
City of Lies.

No idea how that works... if I work out something more specific I'll let you know. For now I just want to make sure I work on it every day, even if it just means forcing myself to read part of it and think.

Another draft of Firmament? And City of Lies? All in the same month?

Congratulations, Airi! :dieshappy: *squeals*

Those sound like good goals, Vanya. ;) And Ani. :D

Well, it looks like I might be able to hit my goal on finishing Above the Gray Skies by New Year's After all. I've still got a bit of distance to cover, so we'll see. I'm doing NaNoFiMo, so I guess I'd better.

Also, I want to completely plot out The Girl on the Swing during December. (Once I use my NaNo discount to buy Scrivner! :dieshappy:)

Annnnnnnd maybe not. :P I'm sorry to say that, folks, but to quote what I said in the NaNoFiMo thread:
AzlynMae wrote:
Because of some discussion in this thread on HF, I have pretty much for sure decided to do more research on the slavery era before writing anymore. I think the 50k I already have is fine with minor editing, but I do need to do some more research to decide where I stand on this before writing anymore.

So I think this story shall have to be set aside for now.

One other hand, I'll still be cheering for all of you with your goals! *Stands on sidelines of thread and cheers for the writing people*

*sniffles and hugs Mae* I'm sad to see you have to put your novel aside, but I respect you for wanting to do more research. Will you pick up another novel instead?

*likes RedWing's titles*

Okay. So despite the fact that I didn't do much writing last week, I managed to get 5k in on Peter's Angel in the form of 3 scenes that only needed minor edits. Starting tomorrow I'm raising my goal to 10k a week and making Peter's Angel my main project. If I stick to that goal, I shall have a minimum of 100k on Peter's Angel by New Year's. I expect the book to be somewhere between 100k-120k, so that will get me very close if not done.

:)
