Rimera are birds about the size of Wrens. They live in the Anaran wood along with the race of Tulirans. They are anything but cute, however. *devious* :)
Let's see, where to start. *evil chuckle*
They are black all over, except for their beak which is bright red and serrated. They have no eyes, but find things by echolocation and find their food by sensing warmth like a snake. Yup, you guessed it, they're carnivorous. Not pretty. They hunt at midnight every second night. Most other animals have either learned to hide in some way or be eaten. The Tulirans, by way of natural selection *grimace*, do not taste good. :D The Rimera will occasionally eat them if there's nothing else to be had, but thankfully poor Chayten (a Tuliran who got caught outside at midnight) got by with only a couple shallow gashes.
They are not sentient. They are, however, more intelligent than my last creature. (the Aergs-nod to Inesdar) They hunt in flocks of hundreds. Like bats, their echolocation sounds are too high-pitched for the human ear to detect. I'm not sure if elves or other beings with better hearing could hear them. Anyway, just before they come the wind stills and everything gets really quiet.
Then, as they get closer, the wind from their wings blasts across the forest. Then they POUNCE!!

*big cheesy grin*
*jumping up and down*
I'm not feeling very mature today, can you tell?

Mostly to create tension when a group of non-Tuliran Dragonriders are caught outside at midnight. :D Tension is a good thing...

Someone was hyper...
Anyway, they sound great. I wouldn't want to be caught outside at midnight.
I suppose they are to small to be hunted by humanoids, but are there any larger birds that eat them?

Ooh, those sound really neat. Now I'm not going to want to go out at midnight. :D

Yikes, I wouldn't want to encounter these at night...or any time really. :) You can definitely create some tension here!

They are really creative Lady E. :) I can see how they can cause tension. I know I wouldn't want to be caught outside at midnight with them... Yikes!
