Desert nation dragons spend their time doing whatever occupation that their parents did. In the case that both parents have different occupations, then the parent who is the same gender at the child will teach him/her how to do the occupation. There is blacksmithing, water transport(common), repair, messenger, doctor, industrial inventor(very rare), political, and builder. They don't wear long garments like the Arabs do because their bodies are already adapt at retaining liquid.

Pertaining to the occupancies of the coast dragons, they include fishing (80%), blacksmithing, medical, and water transport. Water is available from mountain springs. The way they access it is they dig out the spring with shovels and let it flow into different wells stationed along the sea cliffs in larger caverns. These are plazas where trade of food, stone tools, and other utensils and medicines occurs.

Very interesting! :D
Do they have any other special abilities? Do they take apprentices?

Yes. They are called trainees. :)

Thanks for replying so quickly. :)

Do the trainees have certain jobs to do, or tests at the end of the training?

Hurm.... I haven't gone through those details.

A valloian will begin apprenticeship at a young age after being taught to read and write. As far as the training goes, the trainee will first learn the basis of their occupation.

It also depends on the handed-down job. A medical occupation requires more lessons than practice. A water transporter needs to only become strong and work their muscles.

Most of the time though, the trainee is busy imitating their instructor.

A trainee can remain with their instructor (parents or parent in most cases) if they wish where there is always a more experienced valloian to help out. If the trainee wishes to leave and set up his/her own business (move out of the house), he/she must pass an assessment in which there is a test of some sort to deem if the valloian is able to support themselves. They essentially run their instructor's place for them.

There are some exceptions to this since water-transport and builders are more of a labor team who work for someone else. They simply go off to work everyday. Such is the way of cheap labor.

If an instructor happens to die before a trainee is ready for assessment, an experienced member of the same field who has already trained someone will train them. If the trainee is ready for assessment, then the test is provided.

If an instructor dies long after their trainee was ready to go out into the world, like if a daughter wanted to stay with her parents forever <3, then he/she will take over their parent's business without question. Of course this has nothing to do with the laborers, the builders and transporters.

When a trainee fails a test, they must wait at least a full year before trying again. The ways that a trainee could no uphold their instructor's business are numerous. They could diagnose a patient wrong, catch no fish in their test, or any other job specific blunders. Unless there is a good alibi, the trainee remains a trainee.
