Based on your answers, what does this look like for a reply?:

Quote:
The norm for people per mentor is 3, but you would be able to take on as many or as little as you are able. As for the word count, bear in mind that those numbers are maximums, and many of those involved in the project are also busy, so I suspect that not all submitted pieces will be quite so long.

The role of mentor is to help by offering critiques at the end of each month, with whatever specificity seems necessary or is possible. At the end of the first month, we submit our story to the mentor. A week or two into the second month we submit the changes we've made based on the mentor's comments to our team members. This repeats until the end of the third month when we submit to the head, instead of the mentor. Therefore, mentors have 3 (or however many are in your group) critiques per month, two months on, one month off, for 12 months.

Thank you for considering this,
Caleb Joyce

*waves* Hi again, people. :D I'm now an officially published author. Writer's Digest is paying me $150 for a small humor piece. That's 50 cents per word. ;)

You can add that to my experience. My, the list just keeps growing. :P

Brief update, we only have 2 applications so far. Don't forget to turn yours in by Nov. 1 so I have time to collaborate groups (if I only get two, I guess that won't be very hard ;) )

Let me know if you have any questions about the program, since 6 pages for this thread can be daunting - even if you don't read as slowly as I do.

Chila Woychik, the leader of Team PYP, the group this program is based off of, just posted a review of the first quarter. I encourage you to go read her post (here), and my recent blog post (here) about what I learned getting some difficult criticism.

Could you just give us a refresher for the requirements of our submission that needs to be in by Nov. 1?

A short story and a little about your writing history. If I have specific questions needed to put people in the optimal group, I'll ask.

Yes, Raven, got your submission. Thank you. That makes three people so far...

I've finished mine, but Mother pointed out a couple of things to me. So I wanted to take one final look at it before I send it. You should get it by the end of this week. :)

I don't think we have a minimum, but max is 7500. The point is to show us how well you can tell a story.

For the story I sent as an entry is it alright if I still put it up in the short story section?

What's the short story section? Do you mean, can you still have it critiqued? I don't even care if it's published already. We're just trying to get a look at your ability so we can place people in the right places.

Just not going to be able to do it this time around.

*sigh*

Timotheus, is there a plan to do something like this again, as more members come to the forums?

Oh! That's too bad Cassandra! :(

Reminder for everyone...today is the last day you can send in your submissions!

Tim: Let me know when you're ready to work on judging the submissions. :) Do we have anyone else that's going to help judge?

I think Varon is judging as well.

Bummer...had I not been an oblivious little Seer (which was only compounded by my frequent absences over the past few months), I would've loved to have gotten in on this as a mentee. Oh well....I'll live :D

I can't remember what I said earlier about judging, but as I learn more about the Team PYP program, the people within each group work more with each other as time goes on, and the mentor comes in once or twice when pieces are ready. that said, I can just go through and pick who I think would complement each other the best and pick the mentees that would work best for each group. If more people want to read the stories to give me their opinion, that is fine.

I know this discussion has died down and it's too late to join in the mentor program, but I believe this is a God-send, exactly what I need as a wannabe published fantasy writer!
So my question is, when (will?) this start again for next year?

Hi Running Wolf
We have agreed to alter the length of the program to the next six months. That way we can evaluate our time commitments and swap new members if people want to drop out or if more mentors what to join. Port Yonder Press also has a mentorship program you could apply for that starts in June or July. In the meantime I will be posting info on what we're learning that could help. Also check out the Holy Worlds Podcast for writing advice.

Cool, I'll check out the podcast!

Thanks for the offer Mr L! I really appreciate it and would love to. The only thing is that I have a 50,000 word nanowrimo manuscript to edit, do you think I could maybe jump in in a month or so?

I don't think joining mid program is a good idea. It's only six months at this point, with a drop out/hop on point then, so if you're still interested, you could probably join then. We'll see what happens in six months. There will still be plenty of avenues for growth in your writing here at Holy Worlds in the meantime.
