This post explains how that land in Amerouk is cursed. ( I hope I put this in the right place.)

The Curse:

The Cause of the Curse:
The curse was cast by King Dakai’s death. The rebellion had made a surprise attack, and it injured the King greatly. But defeating the world’s most powerful dark magician isn't easy. Once Dakai realized that he was overpowered, he used the remainder of his energy to curse the people of Amerouk. This is what killed him.

The Curse itself:
King Dakai cursed the north people with gloom, and the south with happiness. But when the king cast the curse, he did not make it apply to the royal family so that his son would be able to rule with the same power he had. Also, since King Dakai was already weak when he cast the curse, he did not have enough energy to make it apply to the special magicians who are can manipulate elements, and their ties with nature protected them. Their ties also protected the specially gifted magician’s immediate families. And any of people who were on any of the islands of the coast of the mainland were not effected.

The Curse’s effect:
The Curse has a slightly different effect on everyone. For example, some people in the south may be only mildly happy, and can still focus other emotions with concentration, while others may be dancing in the streets, singing happy songs. As for the people in the north, it is the same thing with gloom.

Any thoughts, comments, and suggestions are welcome. And thank you, dear Philadelphia, for helping me develop the curse. :D

Really interesting. :D

Does any work get done or are people too busy being happy/gloomy?

That really neat to think of happiness as a potential curse. :D

I hadn't thought about that yet. I think that work still gets done, although for a happy person, they might go about singing as they sweep the floor, and a sad person might work slowing and sadly, grumbling about their work. After all, since the curse effects different people in different ways, some people can be mostly normal, but it will still effect their concentration if they tried to concentrate. Imagine it this way: You have something important to memorize, but it isn't easy because what you are memorizing is on a confusing subject. But every time you try to concentrate, happy thoughts keep circling in your head, like, Ah, what a pretty picture it would make of a deer jumping through a field of buttercups! It would be beautiful! or if you were from the north it would be something along the lines of I have run completely out of candles and I do not know what I will do once the sun sets. What a terrible day this is, it could not get any worse! And things like that.

Thank you! :D I was trying to think of two opposite emotions and I came up with happiness and gloom. In a way, happiness is almost worse then gloom.

That came out longer then intended. World-building posts seem to do that. ;)

What is so bad about being cursed with happiness? Is the dark magician's family evil as well? Is there a reason as to why he was so evil?

Oops. *Had forgotten about this thread, since there is an identical one in her subforum*

The bad thing about being cursed with happiness is that is makes it very hard to feel other emotions. Imagine if a family member died, and you couldn't feel sad? That would be just awful.

Green, my post about the curse in my subforum is here if you want to see it.

And you can comment on the history here and such about the royal family so as not to go off topic.
