I was wondering if any of you had ever heard of The National Bible Bee, sponsored by the Shelby Kennedy foundation: http://www.biblebee.org/. I've participated in it for the last three years, but have never gone to Nationals, although my sister has twice, and is going this year!
It's an incredible organization, and I would encourage anybody young enough (8-18) - to do it! :D Although I haven't done so well, it is an awesome motivation to study and memorize God's Word. It is not easy (at all) and you have to be very committed to get anywhere.
I was also wondering if any of you or your siblings might be participating in the National Bee in Nashville, Tenessee in November. I will be attending with my parents and sister, and it would be awesome to meet up!

Tell your sister congratulations! I tried the Bible Bee once, and I didn't get very far; it really does take a ton of dedication. One of my best friends is going to Nationals, and I know she studies 4 plus hours every day! :D

I've never participated in it, but I've heard of it. It sounded really cool, I just haven't done it. I've done Bible drill before, but that's different :)

Wow! I'm not sure how long my sister studies each day... I mean, she's doing verses all the time as she works.
What amazes me is all those little 8-11 yr olds who get up there and reel off long passages. At the first year at Nationals, they told a little eight year boy that "he could attend ten more times!" Ten summers of study? The kid wouldn't have a childhood!

 Ten? That kid would have the whole Bible memorized by then...

...Not that that would be bad, but I think there comes a point when you have to get out and apply the verses, not just store them away in your head. :)

So true! I guess it's a hearer/doer kind of deal. (Or would that be memorizer/doer... :) )

Wow. I just realized I was disturbingly redundant in my post. I think I'll fix that now. D:

Disturbingly redundant? I think not! I didn't notice anything amiss. :)

Are any of y'all participating in the National Bible Bee this year?

I'm participating this year for the first time. (It's also my last year to be in the qualifying age range.) Three of my siblings did it last year, and they're doing it again this year as well.

Anyone else?

I'm doing it. I've done it ever since it began, and have gotten to Nationals those three times. This year I'm more doing it for fun than competition, though :)

For those doing it, I found memverse.com REALLY helpful for getting to know the verses/references a lot better! I'm actually working on contributing to the site now, so I can vouch for how good it is :D

o.O I do believe I may know who you are! My family uses Memverse all the time. Do the names Bethany & Carissa P. (my sisters) ring a bell?

Anyways, that's awesome that you're doing the Bible Bee again. This is my first (and last) year to do it, but it's been great so far!
