Hi everyone! :D
This topic is about cooking, as you may have already noticed. ;)
I like cooking desserts, sometimes meals, and food to eat with your cup of tea/coffee. :D

What do you like cooking? What are your favourite recipes? What tips do you have to share with other cooking fans?

Here you can share your recipes, get cooking tips off others, show photos of your work, or just talk about cooking. :dieshappy:

Let's have fun! :D

God bless,

DairyMaid ><>

Great idea, DairyMaid! Well, let's see... I have a dream to become a baker or a chef when I'm old enough. I can't cook much yet, but I always help out in the kitchen and look at recipes that I could do a big part in. I like to make up my own weird snacks out of everyday things and try them out. Well, I also have other members in the family try it, too. :dieshappy: I am looking into cake decorating, too, whether I just try it at home or take a class. But yes, I am going in the direction of cooking!

Oh, and wonderful thread name! I like it a lot! " The Cook's Corner"

This is a great idea! I love to cook! But I need a recipe...
A healthy, whole wheat biscuit recipe that rises really high. ::Is amused at her misplaced modifier:: Let's try: a healthy, whole wheat biscuit recipe that makes biscuits that rise high. All the ones I've made are good, but I'm looking for a flaky, fluffy, not-fall-a-part-y kind of biscuit.
Anybody else here the type who uses a recipe as as sort of outline, then throws in anything that sounds good?

Thanks, Lady Elizabeth! I thought "Who Likes Cooking?" would be a bit boring, don't you think?
I like cooking cakes and seeing what kind of decorations I can make for them, too. :) It's really fun! :D

Hm... I don't cook whole wheat food a lot, so I can't help you much there, I'm afraid. :P
Yes! When we make biscuits, me and my Mum were trying for ages to get the biscuits to go flat and crunchy, and we kept changing the butter amount, until we got it right. I was also making some choc chip biscuits, and found some Milo in the pantry, so I put a big amount of Milo in, and the biscuits tasted great! :dieshappy:

Oh boy, this thread is going to make me hungry! Mmm... biscuits and apple pies.

Yes, I think The Cooks Corner sounds more peppy than Who Likes Cooking.

I like to bake. I won Best of Category for my pumpkin bread a couple years ago. :D

I like to make fried cornbread ('tis a southern specialty), grits, biscuits, beef stew, pasta salad (the kind with Italian dressing), cookies, cakes, pies. . . :dieshappy:

Oooh! I love cooking! I have some many great recipes! I love making cakes, cupcakes, pies, nearly anything! I also love decorating cupcakes and cakes! I made cupcakes yesterday but we didn't have enough icing sugar to ice them, so I had to satisfy my creativity with sprinkling a bit of icing sugar on top. They still looked nice, and I should really post some pictures of cakes I have decorated in the past.

I have the recipe for you, Phylis! It's a amazing biscuit recipe that has been in my family for some time now. I'll post it later today. One time the recipe got lost and my Mom tried lots of other types of biscuits, but none can compare after these ones. We usually make them half whole wheat flour and half white, but you can make them full whole wheat too.! :D

Yay! Thanks so much! And do you ever work with fondant, Azlyn? My sister and I tried to use it to make Thomas the Train cupcakes for my nephews birthday. They were pretty cute, but the fondant crumbled quite a bit. Who knows what we did wrong! :P
Anyone here like to make fried okra? For some reason it makes me feel powerful...

I like to bake. I'm not much of a cook, but my parents are trying to teach me. I can make a really good casserole that the whole family actually likes. Most of the time we aren't overly fond of casseroles.

That sounds really nice. :D When I was younger, I entered in the fair some decorated Arrowroot biscuits, and won first prize. :D

Lately I've been cooking a lot of cakes (mainly the Simplicity Chocolate Cake) - for us, and to take to church on Sundays - I don't cook very many meals, other than on Friday night, which is just boiled pasta, two cans of tuna, 2 bottles of tomato sauce, and cheese.

@Phylis: No, I haven't made fried okra before... is it good?

Desserts are my favourite thing to cook. :D

Here is the biscuits recipe, Phylis! https://docs.google.com/document/d/17RG ... t?hl=en_US
Enjoy!

No, I haven't tried working with fondant before, though I've always wanted too. I use butter icing and just make it smooth with a hot knife. I'll post some cakes iced with butter icing soon! :D

Mine too! We have a recipe for vegan chocolate cupcakes that I made recently. They are simply amazing and if I didn't tell you they were without milk and eggs, you would never be able to guess! ;) :dieshappy:

I use butter icing on all my cakes too, Azlyn. :D I don't think I've used fondant before :P... is that roll out icing?

That would be great, Azlyn! Most of my cooking is pretty sweet, so usually cooking day is on Friday, for the weekend. :D

Has to be. Anything fried is good, be it squash, ice cream, or okra. (Seriously, fried ice cream isn't half bad!)

Yes, I have to agree on that one. Any thing deep fried tastes good!

'Fraid I don't. My brother says the process is to freeze a ball of ice cream super hard, then - fry it.

Hm... :? I saw somewhere that it's supposed to be frozen, rolled in some crumby mixture, and then frozen for two hours, then into the deep fryer for five seconds... but the recipes didn't have a good rating on them, so I guessed that they weren't very good. :P

I'm glad you guys liked that cake. I'll try to remember to post the picture of the cake I made for my Mom's birthday. It was yellow flowers on it. My mom is an amazing cake decorator, I just that why I like doing it so much. :D We would say she turned into Martha Stuart when she made a cake. ;) :)

Some people think this sounds disgusting or delicious. I made cheese covered pickles the other day. If you would like to try it, here is my recipe:

Cheesy Pickles

You will need a oven or toaster safe pan/dish. (I don't know exactly how to explain it.)

1 Pickle

1 Slice of Cheese

Making it:

Break the piece of cheese so that it is covering almost the entire pickle. Put in your toaster oven on the plate/pan/dish and bake or toast until the cheese is bubbling. Enjoy!

I haven't yet tried it, but if you would like to, you could make it in a oven.

I don't have the exact temperature for the oven, but I usually turn it on at about in between 200º and 300º. I hope that you enjoy the pickle. :D

That sounds very interesting, Emma! I don't actually like pickles because I'm not keen on vinegar, but it still sounds nice. :dieshappy:

*wants to try cheesy pickles*
And it just so happens that we have pickles in the house!
*follows instructions to make cheesy pickle*
*eats pickle*

That's good.... and weird.... and good.... and very cheesy... :?

My cheese was all melty and kept sliding off the pickle, but I just put it back on and it tasted good. :D

And, in the interest of sharing weird recipes, here's on of my own:

Cracker Mashmellow Cheese Thingers

Ritz Crackers
Marshmellows
Cheddar Cheese

Take your Ritz crackers and put them on a cookie sheet. Slice cheese and put a slice of cheese on each cracker. Then put a marshmellow on top of that. Cook in oven at maybe 300 farenhiet, or you could probably put it in the microwave if you only want one. Done once cheese and marshmellow are melty. Enjoy the weird sensation of saltyness, sweetness, and cheeseyness all in one ;) :D

Yay! :dieshappy: I'm glad you tried it, Mae! I would try your recipe, but we don't buy marshmallows. :( It sounds exotically yummy. :D

The pickles I used were dill pickles which made them even more exotic. :D

I've been cooking since I was 11. I took over the family cooking entirly when I was 14. So, I have quite a few years of experience under my belt, especially when you consider we make most all of our food from scratch, including cream of mushroom soup. *grimaces at the canned stuff *

I love cooking, but baking is so much more fun! But that could be the artist in me talking. I view Cooking as a science, and baking as... well, art. :D

Sorry, everyone. The internet was down for a couple of days. :P

So, to catch up:

Wow, that sounds strange, Azlyn, and I would try it, because we have crackers and cheese, but we don't have marshmallows, and if we do, it's for a bonfire. :P

You have got quite a lot of experience, Airi! Do you cook a lot of desserts? Or mainly just meals?

I do lots of cooking, but I also do desserts. I've made many cakes for birthdays (for people we know, not part of my business), but I would like to be able to hone those skills to make more professional type baking pieces.

I won't become a professional in cooking. I enjoy home cooking, or cooking cakes and taking them to church, and being able to cook! :D

I'd love to see some pictures of your cakes, Airi. :D

Here is the cake I made and decorated by myself, for my mom's birthday. It turned out loverly! :D I would add it as a attachment, but HW won't let me for some reason, so it's going in the art gallery instead. :)

Airi, I would love to see some of your cakes! You really must dig some up for us!

I just got a new icing thingamigjiger, so be warned, you may be getting some cup cakes soon! :D

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

I love veggie pizza too. Being vegetarian, I only eat veggie pizza. ;) But fruit pizza is an awesome dessert. :D
