Yes, this may seem like I could have just stuck it in Thamaltan Folklore, but since it's not Thamaltan, I thought it better to create a general thread where I can post snippets of songs - recordings. :dieshappy: They probably aren't the most exciting, since I can't really be a whole band  but it gives you an idea of what it sounds like....sorta.

Today I'll focus on the Wood People (name STILL unofficial :P).

Our first piece is a section of a mourning song (morbid way to start a thread, huh? ;)). The song is mourning for Haza Tie, an old chief who was once mighty, but was killed in battle.

Our next selection is a lullaby. You will notice that it is not comprised of actual words, but sounds only. These sounds are supposed to be soothing to children. *Shrugs* Don't blame me if they aren't. Blame the Wood People.

And, ladies and gentlemen, it is now the moment you have been waiting for! *Applause, please* Thank you, thank you! And now, I give you: *Drumroll* an original folk dance, played on the tvit'tuait! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is correct. I am now unveiling the tvit'tuait for the first time! So let the music begin!

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, it has been an enormous pleasure! :dieshappy:

These are so fun, Milly! They sound very realistic, and I can tell you worked hard. :) Thanks for sharing!

And you have a lovely voice. :)

Will there be more music? :D

Those were all awesome :D Especially the tvit'tuait, though :) The song of mourning was really cool as well though. You mentioned the lullaby isn't specific words, I'm assuming the mourning song is? What language is it in?

If you post more, you will have a willing audience :D

Thanks, Eru. :) Yes, the song of mourning is a specific language. However, as a result of the Wood People not having a permanent name, I can't name their language. :P

Thanks, Jonathan! I'll try to post some more eventually, but it may take a while.

I like the lullaby. And it was soothing. The Tvit'tuait sounds like a fife.

I'm glad the lullaby turned out the way it was intended. :) As to the Tvit'tuait, I'm not sure, but I imagine it would sound different depending on the style of whistling. I'll have to experiment. :) Thanks for your input! :D

Have you ever tried to hum and whistle at the same time?

It can sound like this:

Bahahaha! Daddy used to do that all the time! We would listen to him in awe, and called it his 'scary whistle'. I never could master it. Nice!

Okay, here's the translation for the section of the mourning song...as best as I can remember it, with my notebook being missing.

Strength lay in Haza Tie,
strength of many men.
Alas that fate should humble him!

Alas, alas, for Haza Tie!
Alas, too, for his men!

Brave, brave, was Haza Tie;
brave, too, were his men.
Alas that fate should humble them!

Alas, alas, for Haza Tie!
Alas, too, for his men!

And of course, the song goes on to talk about all of Haza Tie's brave deeds, and the bold doings of his army...and how they benefited their tribe, etc. :)

Now if only that notebook would turn up... :?

Ooh, that's really neat! Definitely seems sad (the tune helps, though :D) Would this song of mourning vary from person to person?

I have these songs all on the other computer and have been listening to them for a long time without the slightest idea as to where they came from except for a notion that they were probably made by Milly (I think Patrick mentioned it once). Needless to say, I really like them!

Are you...going to post more? * pleading smile *
