Being the guy who wrote this: http://lukealistar.com/2011/02/11/a-lau ... -strumpet/

I had no trouble understanding that. :P The 'obfuscations' caught my eye...I love that word. :D

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (yes, I spelled it right on my own on the first try) is actually a factitious word alleged to mean a lung disease caused by the inhalation of silica dust.

The actual term for the disease is silicosis. :P Or pneumonoconiosis.

Which makes pneumono...etc. a hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian word, which is to say, a word coined so as to be very long. (I love the irony there, by the way.)

They say hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words. It's actually sesquipedalophobia. Which is a word plenty long enough to strike fear into the feeble hearts of any such phobics. :P

Right. Also excluding electroencephalograph, disappointingly. :( ;)

But it's so easy to tell what that means!

It's so ironic that the word that means you're afraid of long words is a super long word.... :dieshappy: lol...

Hey everyone, if you are wanting to do some training for the dictionary contest, I highly recommend vocabulary.com. It is the absolute best vocabulary building tool I have ever found, and I've been looking for years. I could go on for a long time about all the ways in which it excels, but I'll just tell you to go make an account (it's all free, and private if you want) and try it out for yourself.

It also has the best dictionary study help stuff I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot.
