The Ringsmith has now made his greatest work!
A ring meant to bind us to eternal writers block!
just kidding...
aside from his own blog, Dieki's next biggest work might just be our new and improved chat room.
So what's in this new ring of power... err... room of chat?
Right now it has lots of the same features as the previous one, aesthetically enhanced and performance optimized. Some of these are detailed below:
Private Chatting: Unlike the old system, which used the [*username] in order to send private chats to only the named recipient (with limited reliability), for the new chat room simply click the underlined name of the user you want to chat with. (By the way... the [no_username] code is gone now). It's found to the right of the chat boxes, accompanied by the...
Online Status Jewels which have 3 options in the drop-down menu located above the "In Chat Users" section and to the right of the chat boxes. The first and default status is "Online" which has a
green jewel. The next option is a
red jewel titled "Busy," which is perfect for when stepping away from the computer or for when using many tabs. The last option is "Invisible" (
grey jewel) which is great for using when wanting to watch chat for someone to arrive or when simply checking who's in chat. The "Invisible" option automatically switches to "Online" whenever you post. There is also the "Away" option with a
yellow jewel, which the computer will select if you are inactive very long.
Most of the old
Sound Cues are still there, along with the
Disable Sounds button, which is now beneath the chat boxes. Since the source code has been changed, it is now impossible for those of only my level of skill to find any new sound cues when they are added, but don't worry, Dieki and Emeth wouldn't add them unless they were going to use them on us, and if they do, then we'll know.

Following is a list of sound cues usable in the new room:
Quote:
Fire at will! *Prepares to be evil*
The One Ring! Hear the screams of my victims!
Unearthly torments begin!
Dial the gate! Star Wars!
Lightsabers! You may call me V!
*breaks glass*
The old "tremble!" command is not functional in the new chat room.
All commands must be entered
exactly right for them to have any effect. And trust me, it is embarrassing when you try to surprise someone with The One Ring! and instead send Th eOne Ring!
The Ringsmith himself possesses these two, which are meant to only work for him, but sometimes there have been ways around that...
Quote:
I command you to refresh!
I command you to be silent!
If you discover others... be sure to let us know.

Speaking of sound cues, there is an all-new feature somewhat similar to the sound cues, the
Summons. If you see someone is online with whom you'd like to chat, simply type @@username into the chat box and send it as a normal chat (substituting the name of the victim...err... summoned for the word "username"). They will receive a notification on their screen that you have summoned them to chat.
The
Chat Log is a powerful new feature (with a small simple looking link) that allows you to retrieve chat conversations from days ago. You can also search through the massive log by word and time to find the exact conversation you want to relive, or copy and send to Chat Mishaps.
The new chat also has
Is Writing notifications. That is, if a chatter is typing in the box, a quill pen appears next to their name. That way you can know when someone is about to reply, or if they are at all.
Along with the Is Writing notification the new chat has what I call "
chat preview." Between when you press Enter and when your post goes up there is a bit of a delay. In the meantime, your post will show up at the bottom of chat, but the codes won't ratify until it is posted. This lets you know that your post is going up, and hasn't been "eaten" and is also a good chance to check for misspellings as it goes up so you can correct typos faster.
The new chat also has a much more powerful
Online Users, which refreshes itself so you don't have to press F5 all the time. It is also very useful for summoning so you aren't summoning people who aren't even online.
Other new features include
Avatars being attached with posts, and for some ranks the ability to edit and delete chat posts (though Mods and higher could always delete them). The new chat also has the simple banner "Fantasy Chat" which adds so much to the room you wouldn't believe it. And let's not forget the "
Disable Notifications" button in case the "desktop notifications" (which I have no idea what are, being a Firefox user) get to be a problem. The chat room also has a
new sword-draw notification sound for new chats when viewing another tab.
Feel free to ask for explanations of any other features... especially because these are just about all I know. Any questions means I learn more!
