Effuvescent and elaborate greetings and salubrious benificences be exponentiated to the massed multitudes of the Holy Worlds Christian Fantasy Forum of God-honoring Creativity!

* bows low *

May you all in your sundry ranks be made apprised and cognizant of yet another additional Holy Worlds project to challenge and stretch you all beyond your individual regions of lackadaisical complaisance. So rise and bow thine ears to hearken to mine orated elucidations of the gauntlet we collectively cast before thy collected and vacillating masses.

The most renowned and illustrious Holy Worlds Community of Christ-centered Creativity in all beleaguered genres is proud to present for your consideration and laudation our initial and seminal arrangement of lexicographical oppositions to the end of tantalizing the enlisted competitors with the exaggerated reward of accomplishment and renown! Would this imply that there might be a possibility of repetitions of this particular flavor of insanity in store for your palate in future times? Embroil yourself in the riddle, and you might elucidate the correct conclusion on that head.

At an undisclosed moment in close proximity to the present the specifications of the aforesaid extravagant event will be expatiated for your delight and cogitation. The immediate gist of the projected concept will be for each of you individually and collectively at disjointed times to be presented with a combination of letters with an undisclosed meaning of which you are assigned the monumental task of deciphering without the external aids of any means not cephalic or communal within the constraints of the quest dictated. And so I charge thee to begin thy literary research and other desperate learning measures posthaste to the end of expanding and elevating your verbiage in varieties both working and reserved!

There will be measures undertaken with consummate care to ensure the capability of enlistment for every member, whether gargantuan in linguistic prowess or but newly budded on the tree of sesquipedalianism. So fear not (or quake exceedingly, it is thine own cardiovascular tremors, not mine own), and elevate thine internal elation, hysteria, and other varieties of hullabaloo to a fevered pitch!

May your verbiage be expanded and embellished beyond what is even extraordinarily reasonable.

Many showered blessing be upon you all in the name of Jesus Christ,

Hmm. Quite good presentation/dramatization! And do know I am a man who likes long words... but I quite frankly could not understand a word of that!

Are you saying that it would be good if I speak with a larger vocabulary? :dieshappy: :? :dieshappy:

Well it was deemed appropriate by some people that an announcement regarding a dictionary tournament ought to be obfuscated with verbiage of a monolithic nature... wait, sorry, I got stuck. :P

Someone wanted me to use big words in this one because it is talking about a big words contest. :D

Yea I read it once, thought...What? Then I read it again and realised what it was about. You should have put a translation after it, Jay. ;)

Now that was interesting... Although I must admit that I thought it was going to be a code-cracking contest, not a long word contest...

What a glorious talk!

(Although, of course, I had to search for what it really meant. . . . 'til I figured out it was the dictionary tournament! ;) )

I comprehended the glorious matter that the obfuscations elucidated. (Except for a few words, but they weren't enough to obfuscate my overall comprehension of the glorious matter that was elucidated. ;))

In short: There's going to be a dictionary tournament.

(Much better, huh?) ;)

Concerning rules: Does speaking long words in latin and such count?
And... are we allowed to use thesauruses? Or dictionaries?

I'm surprised no one's guessed who put Jay up to this, considering who it is who loves to confuse you with riddles... figure it out! 'tis great fun. More information on it later, for now keep doing what you're doing now. Talk. Chatter. Be excited. Translate. Interpret. Define. Because that's what it's all about...

This is the key to comprehensive and effective reading - to be able to figure out the gist of what people are talking about by context, even if you can't define all of their words. :D

Of course, that won't help you for a dictionary tournament...

Here's a hint - if you look up and define all of the words Jay used in his post, you'll be off to a good start.

English:

Dear Holy Worlds,

*bows*

Everyone get ready for our next great challenge! We will be engaging in dictionary warfare for entertainment and honor. It will be crazy. There will be more information later but basically we'll randomly quiz you and you can't use outside sources. Get studying! Don't worry, we'll personalize it to your level of vocabulary.

Hope you learn stuff!

Gangster:

Sup HW,

Having a word battle, you in?

and finally, in Bethy speak:

OMG DICTIONARY FIGHT!!!  :D

We are working on the rules, but you won't be able to use study aids during the contest, only in the training. Which is now. ;)

Haha, thanks Riniel. Not all of it is strictly precise or accurate, but it's pretty close. :D

I paraphrased a bit. It's like the translations of the Bible that give you the concept but not the word for word.

Bethy, I was mostly going for the hyper. ;)

I think everyone knows who told Jay to do this, Katie. They just weren't asked to guess.

The Rainbow in the Storm- My Blog

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)

Effuvescent and elaborate greetings and salubrious benificences be exponentiated to the massed multitudes of the Holy Worlds Christian Fantasy Forum of God-honoring Creativity!

*bows low*

I'd like to make known to you all in your diverse ranks of one more HW project to keep you occupied, if your own stories or other hobbies are suffering from a lack of interest. So listen up, because I am telling you about the aforementioned contest!

The very distinguished Holy Worlds and all of its sides is proud to present for you the first round of the dictionary challenge, which will have you eagerly involved, attempting to be the winner, who will receive recognition as his reward. Does that mean that there could be multiple rounds to this contest? Involve yourself in the game, and you may find the answer to the previous question.

Sometime in the near future the details of the previously mentioned contest will be presented. The idea is that each of you, alone and on teams, will be given a word which you are to define, without use of a dictionary or other people not in the contest. So start brushing up on your English textbooks or any other means means right away to improve your vocabulary!

We will take precautions to make sure that every member who to takes part in the contest will be able to enjoy themselves, with either a wide vocabulary or but a small selection of words. Don't worry, (Or do, who am I to tell you how to regulate your emotions?) and post below how excited you are about the whole thing!

Be sure to speak so that no-one can understand you like I am.

Depends on what you are counting. :) It is the longest coined technical word in the English language.

It's not an English word. The longest actual word is: antidisestablishmentarianism. :D

Actually, it is English. It is actually the longest word to ever appear in an English dictionary.

Antidisestablishmentarianism is the longest non-coined, non-technical word in the English language.

There are lots of different ways to categorize words, and there are longest words in each category. :)

For instance, in the contest we will not be using technical terms, thus eliminating the first long word but including the second.
