What ever happened to the good old days when vampires were evil and good people killed them?!

I have a few friends who are twilight nuts. My argument to flatten what ever they may say in favor of their favorite undead hero is this: Vampires (Akin to mummies, zombies, wraiths, wights, gasts, skeletons and other grave yard nasties) are undead, meaning that they have died and their souls have passed into eternity, Either heaven or hell. The soul is the only thing that can feel emotion, vampires have no soul, love is an emotion, therefor a vampire cannot feel love.

In conclusion, a vampire romance is totally illogical. Mr. Spock would raise BOTH eyebrows at the very mentioning of such an absurd concept.

My two cents anyway.

I say stake em all and burn the remains.

Well said, Inesdar.

Inesdar wrote:
They don’t tend to drink the blood of humans

Needs a period at the end of this sentence.

Inesdar wrote:
Also worth consideration is that fact that many Christians believe that eating blood is sinful, I’m not going to go into that debate, but consider this, even if you think drinking blood isn’t inherently sinful (and if you want to know, I don’t think it is) you could still run the risk of offending people.

I think the first sentence should be "is the fact".

"Also worth consideration is that fact that many Christians believe that eating blood is sinful" might flow better if it ended with a period instead of a comma.

"but consider this," replacing the comma with a dash might work more effectively.

Inesdar wrote:
If you are thinking about adding good vampires to your book, I urge you to first consider ‘would God be honored by this? If you can do it in way that points to Him, rather than back towards pop culture then I I think you’ve helped out more, then those who avoided vampires for their iffiness. But still, use caution.

You need another apostrophe after " 'would God be honored by this? "

Also a comma after "culture" would work better.

Well done, Indy. :)

Really they are animals, they have no soul or spirit... they should not be "good." And I try to avoid anything too unrealistic (even in fantasy... yep; you will see no flying walruses in any of my serious books ;) ). And I agree with what you said, Inesdar, very nice post! :dieshappy:

Umm... just to clarify, animals do have souls. So they are not like animals in that respect.

Very nice, Shark. I enjoyed reading it. Just a few suggestions, though. 'Tis the editor coming out in me.

Inesdar wrote:
Ever since twilight we have been besieged by kind, romantic vampires.

I would suggest making the word "twilight" stand out more, so it's more obvious that you are talking about a book or movie. Perhaps with italics or like this: "Twilight". Same with this:
Inesdar wrote:
Sadly these vampires are used to blur moral boundaries, especially in tv shows such as true blood or vampire dairies.

Inesdar wrote:
These good vamps, unlike their demonic predecessors, are a lot more attractive then the sinister regal Dracula of the 1950’s or the hideous bloated creatures of traditional mythology.

I would add a comma between "sinister" and "regal" and another one between "hideous" and "bloated". My 2 cents, anyways. ;)

Inesdar wrote:
Well we have two options.

May I suggest adding a comma after "Well"? :)

Inesdar wrote:
In a sense it’s what we all do when we are selfish; we drink the life out of other people so that we can be filled.

I'd add a comma after "In a sense". :)

Inesdar wrote:
Though you have to be careful with this analogy I do think you could use it in a God honoring way.

And another comma after "analogy". ;)

Inesdar wrote:

I would add a comma after "culture" and I would utterly destroy one "I". I'm an editor, I slay typos...I'm just doing it more indirectly this time. ;) I would take away the comma after "more" as well. I would also suggest changing "then" to "than".

And...I'm done. ;) Very interesting, Shark. :D

I am pretty sure you mean "vampire diaries" in the second paragraph... not dairies,

I could do the grammar edits at some point, but I wanted to cover some content items first. I would like to see you talk a bit more about this subject, Brendan. When I read your article, the main point I got was 'be careful.' For the average writer, they are looking for more than just 'be careful.' I would like to see some more 'whys' answered. I would like to see the pros and cons of good and evil vampires looked at more.

I am not saying the article isn't good. . . I just think that it needs to actually have more of a point than just 'be careful.' We need to be careful about a lot of things as writers. I think this article can actually become longer and more pointed. I understand that such a purpose may not be your intentions and I might have to leave you with that. But, I felt it was my duty to mention it considering that I did write a ten page essay on this topic a while back for school. Such controversial subjects. . . should be hit with a hammer.

Just my humble thoughts there. :)

Just to add to what bushmaid and Kali said:

The word "then" should be a "than".

Yes, Brendan, I know, we have discussed it before. I still maintain that the bible says animals have a soul, though not the same type of soul as humans.

True Blood and Vampire Diaries should be capitalized for both words.

*shivers * When I was living in NJ for a month, I actually saw commercials for True Blood and Vampire Diaries, and even a few excerpts. (the TV was always running for breakfast and dinner :P ) I had some serious issues with them, even from the little I saw. :P

Most modern shows can be really weird! All of the ones for late teens and early adults and stuff!
