So I thought the first one up through a random idea/dream. I then expanded...

Nathair: from the waist up they look like men except for the head, which is the size of a human head but looks mostly like a snake's. In place of legs they have a serpent's body. They would be about 9 feet long depending on what kind of snake they are.

Taer: Taer have very hairy bodies. They can walk upright or on all fours, but they are sort of hunched when they are upright. Their legs are long like a man's, but are in the shape of a canine's. Their arms are like a human's but a lot more hairy. Their hands are very hairy on top and they have short fingers with rough pads on the bottom. Their heads are wolf heads and they have large shoulders and a line of thick fur running down the middle of their backs.

Iolair: Iolair look mostly like humans but their heads have feathers instead of hair and beaks instead of mouths. Their hands are talons. Their feet are talons – though much less nimble than the hands. And their legs are, from the knee-down, hairless and featherless, being like a bird's legs, and from the knee up bushy feathers.

Seabhac: They look basically like Iolair, except they are smaller and weaker.

Yumod: Yumod are the darkest and most prone to evil of all the halflings. They look very close to humans in body but they have bat heads and their arms are wings with small talon-like hands at the ends. Their legs are human shaped and they have human shaped feet except they have claws at the ends of their toes.

It's just the first description. I will probably go back and re-edit sometime but tell me what you think! I can also post more stuff about them, if you like?

"Well...that isn't so bad."

These are some very unique creatures! Do they play a large role in your story? What kind of social structure do they have (do they live in groups?) ?
Are they herbivorous, omnivorous or carnivorous?

Yes, they are the main characters!

Quote:

They live in clans, mostly.

Quote:
Are they herbivores, omnivorous or carnivorous?

Nathair are mostly carnivorous but can eat vegetation if they want.
Taer are carnivorous with a hate of plant food ("That's what food eats!") but could eat it if needed.
Iolair are omnivorous.
Seabhac are the same as Iolair.
Yumod prefer to just drink blood but also eat meat.

Well, I don't want to keep it but I couldn't think of a better name that meant/described that they are all half human and half beast! Any ideas?

Do you guys want me to post other stuff about them? Like what their fighting styles are, what weapons and armour they use and that kind of stuff?

I like! Keep on talking, I like what I hear!

The Nathair are my favorite, and the Taer are next.

What are their origins? Their history?

Are there any great forts or cities they have built or had dealings or quarrels with?

I see you joined the forum yesterday. Welcome to Holy Worlds!
Do you have an introduction thread?

Would you like help for naming your world?

So far that is unknown to me...if you have any ideas, let me know!

Quote:

The human kingdom fears and therefore hates all of them in general. The main characters will probably be trying to unite the different races before the Yumod and whatever allies they might have try to wipe out the humans (that's the first plot idea anyway). Other than that, I'm not sure what sort of places they live in...

Yes!

Thanks for the welcome! And no, I don't have a introduction thread. Might get on that in a sec. Ok, I'll post more about them.

Fighting style:

Nathair move swiftly and generally travel low to the ground. Most of them prefer one or two medium to small sized blades such as knives, daggers, dirks, or short swords. Usually slightly curved. They almost always poison their blades to some degree. In hand to hand combat they bite with venom, usually to the neck. They can also wrap their snake part around the victim, crushing him.

Taer run in semi-crouched positions and usually use axes, maces, flails, ball and chain flails, spiked clubs, and maces. In hand-to-hand combat they run on all fours, usually jumping to bite the neck and claw the victim.

Iolair fly, and so their fighting style is much different than any of the others except Seabhac. They generally use bows, crossbows, longbows, slings, or javelins. In melee combat they use spears or short swords. In unarmed combat they fly out of range from their enemy and then swoop down and claw them with their hands or feet, however, they can also peck with their beaks.

Seabhac use the same weapons and fight the same way as Iolair.

Yumod fight primarily hand-to-hand using their fangs to bite the enemy and claws as they fly by. They carry weapons such as scythes, glaives, halberds, pikes (rare), and tridents for when they land and fight melee. They have also devised a way of fighting where two Yumod wear a double harness around their chests so one can fly and the other can use his weapon.

Armour:

Nathair use scale armour in battle wearing only the shirt, as it would be impractical to use it on their snake portion. They don't wear helmets. Their scabbards are on their backs, for if they were waist scabbards, they would always be dragging on the ground.

Taer wear hard leather sleeveless armour with metal discs on it and short chain mail leggings down to their knees. Taer also don't wear helmets. They carry their one hand weapons in leather loops off of they belts; their two hand weapons are carried in wood and leather cases on their backs.

Iolair wear a chain mail shirt and leather over top as well as vambraces on their forearms. They usually carry a longbow on their back in between their wings with a quiver and a crossbow on their waist with another quiver of bolts for the crossbow on the other side.

Seabhac use their equipment the same way and wear the same armour as Iolair.

Yumod wear only a mail shirt and short leggings. They carry their weapons on their backs.

Skills and weaknesses:

Nathair are masters of moving swiftly and almost silently low to the ground. They can move faster as the climate gets warmer; as the climate gets colder they move slower and slower until their blood is no longer moving. Also their eyesight is not very good and they rely mostly on their smell and they smell with their tongue.

Taer can move quickly and quietly (though not as quietly as Nathair) while on all fours. Once a Taer decides someone is his friend he will have a very hard time breaking his loyalty to that person, even if the person betrays him.

Iolair fly and can see extremely far. Their bones are easy to break as they are hollow like a birds.

Seabhac are the same as Iolair.

Yumod have poor eyesight but can detect objects and living things with a form of sonar that allows them to see in their minds where things are and what their shape is. However the clicking sound they make to detect stuff can give them away when trying to remain in stealth.

The normal clothes they wear are basically cloth (or whatever other materials they want) forms of their armour.

I would use the word Demi-. In greek mythology it is frequently used to describe half man half God people. Just stick whatever half after Demi-. :F

Aeleknight, I don't want to use demi because A: they're not part god and B: it's Greek and if I use names from our world I prefer to use Celtic/Welsh languages.

I'm sorry, I should have explained better. Demi means half and has nothing to do with the word God. In the context in which I spoke of it is used as follows:

Quote:
Demigod

Well my advice is look up the word half in Welsh and go from there. :D

Oh yeah sorry I realize it doesn't necessarily mean half god it's just what I think of when you say "demi". And duh! I should have thought of just looking for "half" in Welsh or something!

Would you like help for naming your world?

Yes!

Alright, how was your world created? Is it a land, a planet, or multiple planets? Are there connections or similarities between it and earth, or is it independent? Does it have some distinctive characteristics that make it unique?

Perhaps most importantly, is there a made up language it needs to be named in? Or does the name need to have a certain sound? For instance, Galaul has a very different sound than Vestil.

Um, I really don't know...I haven't really thought about a lot of the details yet...

No certain language. It does have to have a certain sound...I'll know it when I hear it, or in the forums case, read it.
