*pops in* I'm just here to echo my brother (Welt) in saying I too was/am homeschooled :D

I'm homeschooled! I have more time to write and draw and train a show dog and all that fun stuff. I love being homeschooled.

I'm home schooling! And proud of it. :? I would not trade it for any other schooling method.

Well, as I kind of expected, all the Big Names on here are/were homeschooled. And I have a feeling that only a homeschooler would have thought of this forum. (I don't mean to hurt or offend anyone; I could be wrong. :? )

I am homeschooled! all the way through. I am a senior right now at age 15, and I will be homeschooling my little brother starting next fall.
I will also be homeschooled through college (getting my A.A through College Plus).

I haven't done it yet, but my brother is doing it currently. (He doesn't really like it but that's because he doesn't really like school no matter which way you put it)

*raises hand* Homeschooled! Although *sob* this year is officially my last... then I'm off to a local college. Must admit that though I'll homeschool my own and will never ever ever ever etc. regret being homeschooled (isn't it the best ever?) I look forward to college. It'll be something new, almost an adventure. *blusheth at mine naivety* Besides, I'm going with a life-long friend, so that immediately puts a large tick on the experience. :D

I'm graduating from "Hypomeno Home School." In the Greek language "hypomeno" (hoop-om-ēno) means perseverance or to "patiently endure" which pretty much sums up me and Caldera's homeschooling with dyslexia and other trials. :D The only downer is the difficult pronunciation...at least if you don't have pronunciation key anyways. :P

*waves hand* Guilty! That is to say, guilty of the awesome and seldom-practiced art of the Home School. Definitely the way to go!!

Wow...I can't believe I have never posted in this thread... I mean, it's just been sitting there in my "to post next time I feel like posting" links for...since I joined HW. *cough* Anyways, I am now posting here.

I am home schooled and have been so all my life with the exception of the third grade - when my mom decided to teach me and my sister a lesson by sending us to a private school. :P But now I have been promised that I will graduate home schooled so I shall forever be a home schooler. :dieshappy:

Apparently we weren't learning math fast enough and my sister was in tears everyday. :P My mom was really new to homeschooling... *cough* But we all agreed that the year we went to private school was the worse school year yet, never gonna happen again.

A few times, years ago, when my brother and I were not doing our schoolwork like we should have been, our dad threatened to send us to public school :) Of course, we didn't really know what public school was, but we knew we didn't want to go. We would cry, and make plans to run away from it and all that. Looking back, it's kind of humorous. I guess we had a terror of public school ingrained in our subconscious!
But our dad would never have really sent us to that place.

Haha, my mom did that for a few years after private school. Of course, my dad was entirely against the idea, but, then again, he's at work when we are trying to figure out math.

The one problem with homeschooling, Bethany, is when you get into the subjects in later grades where your parents start scratching their heads and they can no longer help you

I know I've already posted, but I've done homeschool too :) Along with private school, homeschool again, public school, distance educaction, and now back to private school, which will hopefully be where I graduate. :)

True...but the one plus of being the youngest sibling is that your older siblings have already gone through such subjects and you can ask them to teach them to you. ;) Unless, of course, said older sibling does not remember/cannot explain...in which case, you do the teach yourself method which has not failed me yet. :D

I'm always helping my younger siblings with their math. My brother was going through geometry, but I had taken Algebra 2, so I couldn't help him with that.

I imagine I will probably take a couple college courses after I graduate, and I'm sure I will do drivers' ed with the public schoolers, but other than that, I will never go public schooled. :P

Both my parents were teachers in public schools when they decided to homeschool. I guess they knew a thing or two about public eduction.

Quote:
"Really? You have very good social skills for a homeschooler!" It was all I could do to keep myself from laughing. The worst part is that she was totally serious!

I've had that reaction happen quite a bit over the years. I've also had another kind of reaction because I played sports and was built like a tank. "You look nothing like a homeschooler!" is probably one of my favorite lines. "But, you're good at football!" is a close second.

But an incident like yours happened to me when I got a haircut with my brothers about six weeks ago. Keep in mind that it's been a little bit since I graduated college, one of my brothers is 17 and the other 15.

My brothers and I were just busting out jokes and stories with our hairstylist, as we usually do, and this lady I never met before was completely shocked at our "social skills" when our hairstylist told her we were homeschooled. Then the lady's jaw nearly dislocated when she found out that I not only played sports in high school and college, but most of my siblings play sports and some of them even went to the homecomings and proms. :o

I later found out from our hairstylist that the woman had discussed her strong views against homeschooling in the past, mostly because of the social aspect, and was completely caught off guard by meeting my brothers. :dieshappy:

Speaking of sports, how many homeschoolers here played sports in high school? I remember being the first one for football and track at my high school.

People who say homeschoolers have poor social skills obviously have never really met any.

Hehe, my sister found the same at her work. Her boss could not believe she was homeschooled because she had good social skills. :D A lot of them seem to have a pre judged idea of what homeschoolers are like, which is quite sad, I think.

*giggles* I always get a shocked face when I say I am home schooled, but something that happened recently was pretty funny because it was the first time I had ever heard a story where my mom bragged about my sister and me.

My mom was working with somebody and they started talking about homeschool, typically, when my mom is working, she just blocks out the people that rant to themselves while they work, but she perked up when she heard the word, "homeschool".

So the lady started going on and on about how she thinks homeschool parents cheat and just give their kids the grades and how homeschoolers are unsocialized, etc. etc. etc. And my mom sort of just stayed quiet and waited for her to finish, but once she was done my mom just said "Yeah, well, I've home schooled my kids their whole lives and my sixteen year old is taking college courses while my thirteen year old just published her first book."

The lady didn't say anything for the rest of the day.

WOW I just noticed you were about my age! And published? Awesome! Great job being a role model for all younger-type writers!

 I wouldn't call myself a role model...I'd sooner call myself crazy and believe it. ;) But thank you. :)

I'm in college now, but I was homeschooled, and I intend to homeschool my own kids when I meet them.

Yeah if my sister is going to go to college I want her to take online courses, she is studying dance right now; you can dance over the internet right?

I was homeschooled all my life up until tenth grade. I went to public school for the first time last year.

I went to a private school through first grade and have been homeschooled ever since. I've been feeling a bit of pressure lately, because all my previous homeschool friends are going to public school next year. But yesterday my mom said something to me that stopped all that. She told me, "You obviously have no intention of living a normal life. Why have a normal high school experience?" And so I've decided to stick it out, and keep on truckin'...(literally - my dad's a truck driver and I'll be doing school on the road sometimes and blogging/vlogging about it) Sometimes I wish I went to public school, but then I look at my life and all the freedom I have, and I think, "Nah...I'll leave that to the normal people." :)

Ooo! Ooo! Me! Me!

I've been homeschooled since day one (graduating next year). I praise God for it; it's the only way to go.
God bless,
Crushmaster.

@Roager I play softball in a local league. I started in my freshman year and every time I tell my team I'm homeschooled, their eyes go wide and they start asking all the classic questions..."Do you sleep in, like, every day?" "Do you get to do school in your pajamas?" It's kind of funny because some of them thought I didn't watch TV or anything, because I don't watch Jersey Shore. One of them asked me if I lived under a rock...

It's funny when people think that homeschoolers don't know much about how to socialize and act normal... if the common middle schooler acts "normal" than I don't want to be "normal"! It's the blind leading the blind out there most of the time! Bratty kids hanging around bratty kids, making themselves more bratty. There of course are exceptions and I have seen publicly schooled children behave quite nicely. But the majority I've seen...
My two cents!
(Going back on topic now!)
