| Ok, so I come here to introduce my characters and then develop them, right? Okie dokie then, and away we go!I have a lot of characters, so I guess I'll just introduce the ones that the story focuses on.

 Main character:
 Name: Janea Sheepherder (Pronunciation: Jan-AY-ah)
Janea is 18, has dark blonde hair, green eyes, and around 5’7”
She lives on her father’s farm. Her father is a shepherd, as was his father before him and so on through the ages. Her father owns the largest flock in the village, and is one of the village council members, so her family is well off as far as peasant families go. She is the eldest child, and usually tends the flock as her younger brother works in the fields. Her younger brother will be the one to inherit the farm, since he’s the only son. As the custom is in her town for women, she will live on her father’s farm until she marries, but if she doesn’t want that life, she could move away to one of the larger cities on the coast where women have more opportunities.
Janea’s family is descended from wizards, so she, her father, and brother all have magical ability. In this world, being a wizard is inherited, not taught. Of course, a wizard does need training to master his or her natural abilities, which are only as limited as their imagination. As this story begins, she has very little training, since there isn’t much use for supernatural abilities on a farm.
Her father’s name is Rilhain, her mother’s name is Danella, and her brother’s name is Lothain. They are separated from Janea early on in the story, and have their own subplot in a POW camp.
She seems kind of bland, so she still needs work.

 Main villain:
 Name: Laowyn Magicstaf (Pronunciation: LAY-oh-win)
Laowyn is an human sorceress who by her dark arts has made herself immortal and elvish. She is rather beautiful, tall, slender, with long white hair, and crystal blue eyes. Her beauty is only skin deep, however, because inside she is an angry, bitter woman. She is hundreds of years old, and the only survivor of the Great War (will think of a more creative name), where her countrymen were defeated by the Keonisians, who are from the same country as Janea. From that moment she vowed revenge, and became bitter toward all humans, soon believing elves were the superior race. That is when she started styling herself as an elf, and making all others believe that is what she is.
Her magic is not natural, like Janea’s. She uses dark spells and potions to get what she wants. She hates the true wizards so much that she puts them in prison camps where she tries to exterminate them, because without wizards, her elf mages will have an easier time defeating the humans.

 Supporting cast:
 Name: Vinaron (Pronunciation: VIN-ah-ron)
Vinaron is an elf who is working for the underground, which is trying to stop Laowyn’s war on the human race. His age is unknown in the story, but he looks around 30. But since he is an elf, he is quite old. So old in fact, that his dark brown hair is streaked with grey. He is a mage, and becomes Janea’s tutor when she decides she wants to help fight for her people’s freedom. He is a very by the book person, thinks swords are primitive and magic superior, gets exasperated when no one listens to his opinion, but is still a brave warrior for freedom.

 Name: Kamzar
Being a dwarf, Kamzar is a strong, gruff person, but he isn’t temperamental like a lot of dwarf clichés. He is a captain in a forest patrol, which guards the borders of the mountains that hide the dwarves’ home. He is logical and calm, and will turn a listening ear to new ideas.
He has the typical dwarven look: a long, red beard, and short and stocky. He doesn’t usually wear the large quantities of armor though, seeing he’s in the forest patrol, where he must be swift and silent, or as much as a dwarf can be. He is around 60, which isn’t that old in a dwarf lifespan. It’s about the equivalent of 40 in a human.
He befriends Janea and Vinaron when they make it to the mountains, and he helps prepare the dwarf army to march against Laowyn’s elves.

 Name: Rirefid (Pronunciation: Rye-reh-fid)
Rirefid is a drakon, a dragonish race that also shares many similarities with humans, such as standing upright and walking on two legs, and having a shorter face instead of a dragon’s long one. They also have wings, horns, and a tail, just like the dragons. Rirefid is tall, almost seven feet. He has two large horns curving to the back of his head, his yellow eyes are shaped like a human’s, and his skin is a dark grey, almost black color, but the wing membrane is a lighter grey.
Rirefid is a drakon warrior, so has a strict code of honor. He’s also a sword master, so he teaches Janea the basics of sword fighting, so when she goes into battle, she won’t have to rely solely on magic. He doesn’t like magic, and he and the elf Vinaron argue about the pros and cons of their choice of fighting techniques. He’s also a representative to the dwarves from his people, and is instrumental in getting his brethren to take up arms against the elves.
I was also obsessed with “Beauty and the Beast” when I first came up with this story idea, so I was planning on Janea and Rirefid falling for each other. Now I wonder if something like this would just take away from the whole ‘fight for freedom and against Laowyn’s racism’ storyline I have going, or if it would add more emotion to it.

Ok, there are the main players. How do they seem?
