So anyway this site is awfully legit.

I bumped over here from Into the Book somehow. ... That sounds creepy.

But yeah, really impressed by the site and community. Wish I had found this a long time ago. Looking forward to networking with other writers.

A little bit about me so we're friends.

I'm a freshman at Northwestern -- biology major. My parents are missionaries and we were in Thailand the 5 years prior to this one. I've always liked writing -- Nanoed it up 2009, but organic chemistry killed my 2010.

Really enjoy the short story form more than novel form. But from some pre-joining creeping, I'm glad to see that there's lots of both here.

Really enjoy Christian community too. This site is beautiful.

Yeah, so heya! I feel weird being in college here. Is that weird. I'm young for my grade. Let's be friends!

Hey, an ITBer! *throws glitter * Tis a good website. ;) Course, I may be biased, but oh well! :D

I don't think it is weird that you are in college. We've got a lot of college age people around here. How old are you?

So, are you planning on writing another Nano this year? We have a lot of Nanoers around here too.

Tacoooooooooos!

I'm 18, so just a bit below the mean freshman age.

Totes going to try another Nano this year. November's pretty awful usually, because I'm on quarters which means crunch time comes right at the beginning of November and right at the end. So I'm not counting on finishing. But absolutely going to try! Do you Nano too, Airianna?

Yay! An MK! :D I have a professor that was in Thailand for a couple of years a long time ago, and I myself am pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a missions major.

Congratulations are in order, you are probably the first HWer to ever use the word "legit" in a post :).

I was eighteen as a Freshman too. It's probably more common than you think.

See ya around.

Especially among homeschoolers, eh Seer?

I have not done Nano as of yet, BC, but I have considered doing it. How would you rate the experience?

Snap, that's sweet! I was just pulled into the field by my parents, so I really respect people that make the decision on their own to give up their lives and do missions. That's really cool. What college, if I may ask?

Haha, whoa. Yeah, my vocabulary is a little bit awkward/strange/fake-hood. :? And I really like that smiley.

Oh, that's cool that you were 18 too. Yeah, most of my friends are 19 so I thought I was an oddball. I was homeschooled up til highschool too, so perhaps there's a correlation..

Oh man, I can't recommend it enough! It was hectic and crazy and fulfilling and awesome. It felt a little bitter not to finish this last year, but like the year that I made it, it felt just unbelievable. And now I have a couple [self-published] copies sitting on my shelf here, so it keeps feeling rewarding. Tooootes recommended.

I agree! I find several of my peers are using that word for everything, but I was surprised not to actually find it on here...until now. :D

I've never participated in NaNoWriMo, because deadlines are my enemy. (And I've never actually finished nor had time to finish anything else I've written besides some short stories...)

I agree with you, the site is beautiful. We have some very talented graphic peoples here on the forum. ^^

You're not very old here, don't worry. (Coming from someone the same age.) We actually have quite a range of ages here from tweens to full fledged adult. (Very responsible, of course.) ;)

Glad to have you here!

And the adults are just as insane as the minors, so it all checks out. ;)

Welcome, Big Cheesy! It is a delight to have you join us. Do take a cupcake (and eat it, too). There are many homeschoolers & grads on this site (like me!), so you should be at home!

What were your NaNo novels about? Did you just self-publish a few copies for your own use, or are you going to make a business out of self-publishing? I did NaNo for the first time last year. I did fantasy as well! Now I'm trying to world-build my universe and expand the plot. :D

Not really, from what I've read of you thus far, I can say that I have plenty of friends that talk like that, and most of them are freshman in college too.

Homeschooling had nothing to do with it for me, I have a late December birthday, I turned nineteen in the middle of my freshman year. Sorry to burst your bubble  And I went to a public high school. *shrugs*

My first Nano was the most generic possible -- rebel uprising, tension in the air, boy goes on mission to fix things. Intrigue & responsible elderly role models & teenage love interests abound. hahah

Last year was an attempt at a thriller in the 1920s about a scientist who created a miracle-powers potion and then started to lose his mind. By far a deeper plot than 2009. Also first person and by far more difficult to write. And a flop, haha.

We printed it over in Thailand so we just shot off 20 copies or so for family members etc. Definitely not trying a business with it! hahaha

Did you finish last year? What was yours about?

Okay, neat. I haven't heard of it, but I have a bunch of friends at Union, which I think is maybe not too far away? I know it's in TN.

Whew. Most of my friends here are pretty straight-edged, but perhaps I'm not as anomalous as I thought. :)

Well, well, well. Hello BC  What Northwestern do you happen to be attending? The one in WA or MN? (ie. NWUniversity or NWCollege?)

I just thought of a quote:

Needless to say, Holy Worlds is made interesting when our presence shines.

"Our" presence meaning everyone's!

I guess I would be considered an 18 year old freshman if I was going to college this fall. But instead I'm taking a year off. ^^

Welcome to Holy Worlds :)

I'm starting my college education full-time next fall, after my seventeenth birthday. I did a number of college credits this year online, but I'll actually start attending a physical college in the fall. Technically, it's my senior year of high school so that I can keep playing high school sports, but academically it'll be college.

I hope you find our posts enjoying and enlightening, and we look forward to yours :)

Oh nice. I wanted to do that, but financial aid stuff wouldn't wait. What are you gonna be doing during your free year?

Ahh, I had a homeschooled friend who did that. He had a high-school co-op team that he played on. Best of both worlds. What sport(s) do you play?

Ah! I think I messed up IL with WA :P I could only remember that is was over that way *waves with hand* The only reason I asked is because I'm leaving for NWC (MN) in the fall (yes, you got it, another 18 year old, homeschooled, college freshman ;)) I'm going to be going for a Graphic Design major (big surprise to those HWers who know me xD) and I hope to one day teach it :)

Yea biology! And who are these Kat and Mousie of which you speak?

Also, how are you almost 18 when you were born in 1921??? #mindblown!

Well, since I'm apparently older than all of you freshman hooligans, it must be my job to keep you all in line, right? Just kidding. I'm a homeschool grad. Not going to college at this time. I'm "working on my writing career," as Mama likes to say!

BC, I... technically finished my NaNo. I'm going to be generous and call the thing I wrote a "draft." It's more like a 50,000-word treatment, haha. It has some scenes, and then a summary of all the unwritten plot, and then a few more scenes, and then another summary... I'm working on expanding the world and ironing out the plot for a second draft. It's a fantasy novel, about a world where everything fades as it ages... except my MC, who is, ironically for this thread, an almost-19-year-old homeschool grad about to enter college. ;) Funny how that works out. I've got a thread here: viewtopic.php?f=117&t=1498

Don't give up hope on your "flops." You might try revising them!

Ahh, I had a homeschooled friend who did that. He had a high-school co-op team that he played on. Best of both worlds. What sport(s) do you play?
I play soccer predominately. I may take up track next spring (I planned to this year but then the team never came together). I also play golf, but soccer is my favorite sport. I love volleyball when I can play, but don't play for any regular teams.

I guess I would be considered an 18 year old freshman if I was going to college this fall. But instead I'm taking a year off. ^^

Oh nice. I wanted to do that, but financial aid stuff wouldn't wait. What are you gonna be doing during your free year?
I plan on getting another part-time job, exploring career ideas through community education, and possibly take a fun course at the local community college to get a feel for the school. I went more in depth in Dream Careers and Goals. ^^

I went to college for one course, and I hated it. Then I went to study at Look North and I loved it there but I was studying with older people so, dare I say it, they were very sensible.

Hey, BC! :D First off, welcome. Second off, you're an MK, thus that makes you automatically cool. :) Did you like Thailand? I'm an MK from Asia, and we went to Thailand one year for our field get-together - my laptop actually has Thai characters on it! :D Not that I understand much more than sahwahti-kap

Anyways, thirdly, you're from ITB, which makes you doubly and triply awesome :D And fourthly, you've self-published your own novel which makes you quintuply awesome :D In short, I'm really looking forward to seeing you around on HW. :D

Hey, it's another person with one of my avatars!

(which any Gimp user will tell you are extremely easy to make)

Anyways, I did do some HW evangelizing on ITB, so out of curiosity I must know who you are from over there.

(that is, if you comment...If not there's no way I'll know you... :) )

(I'm the reviewer Caleb Joyce on ITB...)

(I just finished reading the Westing Game[look for the review!], hence my overuse of parentheses.)

(bye!)

Hahahahah that's awesome! I love making random MK connections! Thailand was really great. The weather is beaut, the people are nice, and the food's excellent. Really a great time. Whereabouts were you in Asia exactly?

Haha, yess. Like the colors on this avvie. Nice work :).

I read ITB for a while but didn't comment much --- but I definitely got in a discussion with you on the "Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask" review! I'm Nolan in the blogosphere.

Not sure if I saw the HW link through you, but I guess that's likely the case! :D

Hey... I use the name "Nolan" for a last name in my sci-fi novella Red Rain. They're kind of the bad guys. Well, not the antagonist, but from the dark side. :D I stole the name from someone else who isn't a bad guy IRL. ;) It's a cool name and it had a bit of a sci-fi ring. :D

@BC: That's cool. We have some friends that lived in Thailand who did Flight of the Gibbons. :) (Out of curiosity, do you happen to know the Veldts?)

Sorry, can't say where we were or will be in Asia. :(
