Monta Tervedhis, ie tahlen elleama vel sellen sillen loestel!

My name is Joe, or in Seanil-Elvish, Esílis. Actually, let me back up a bit, past the language. I am a seventeen year old homeschooled writer. I started writing at the age of 15, shortly after reading Eragon, and decided it would be a lot of fun to try my hand at writing. Two years later, I've finished the second draft of my first book (only four or five more to go before publication!!!), started a website, and am writing a language. I would be nowhere without my loving parents, and the love for writing and reading that Vitaren (the Seanil-Elvish word for The Maker) has so graciously given me. To Him be all the glory and power for ever and ever. I hope to someday publish my first book, and use it and the rest of the series that I have planned for the glory of the Lord. I hope you enjoy my writing, and I look forward to getting to know you.

P.s. I would be MORE than happy to answer any (and all) questions regarding my language, book, or the creatures and races therein. And I appreciate any (and almost all :D) feedback on book or language samples that I post in the future.

God bless,

Oh. My. Goodness! I'm the first poster on this thread!!! :o

Welcome to Holy Worlds, my fellow writer! We're so glad to have you here. ^^

Making up a language is quite an undertaking. I fear that it's beyond my skill in writing. Kudos to you though!

It's wonderful to see your admiration for God and your servant's heart. I hope you find this a pleasant place to share your thoughts and a place you can come to for advice. ^^

Welcome again!

~Calen

P.S. I was scared there for a second, because when I went to post it said someone posted ahead of me and it was you, Esilis. By the way, how exactly do you pronounce your username?

Welcome to HolyWorlds, Esilis! :D Glad to have you! You're writing a language? Cool! That must be quite the challenge, and yet it must be quite exciting too!

May I introduce you to my new pegasus? Her name is Nimalu, or Nim for short. Her name is Elvish for "white water", and she likes sugar cubes. ;) *Nim flies in to greet Esilis*

We take our imaginations very seriously. ;)

Welcome to the Land of the Literati... help us forge the world of tomorrow.

If you've got a lot of completed stuff, post it like mad. You'll have more feedback than you thought was possible in the Scholar's Hall.

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Wow, you've already intrigued me with your story. Please do post some! :D I'm also impressed that you are making a language; I have yet to try my hand at that.

Oh, and here come the penguins. :D *four glittery penguins come in with a punch bowl and tons of glitter* Oops, I can't forget Bethany's penguin... *Bob slides in* There. :D What kind of punch do you like?

Welcome Esilis! *tosses a few "sprigs" of glitter over his head* There, you have now been inducted into HW *bows while dropping more glitter* Enjoy your (hopefully) endless stay in these "Holy Worlds" *throws glitter in different directions as she talks* Dive in, we've more world within HW that you could--well, you could shake a stick at them, but we're not really stick shakers here--added your races and creatures to the cacophony (Ooo! fun word to say, haha!) we contain in our threads. I'm sure you will shortly be reaping in comments like there's no tomorrow ;) Don't forget to post information about your language in the Scriptorium *points with glitter* Also! Please grace us with any sections of writing you care to share in the Fireside where we'll all listen with rapt attention ^.^ I believe my official work here is almost done, to be completed with the suggestion: if you have a deeply developed world, care for your own sub-forum? We've got a manageable selection hiding in the depths of Realms Beyond. Add yours? *offers glitter as a bribe to post more*

In Short:
Post. Please. :dieshappy:

*leaves a few bowls of glitter out on the table*

Welcome, sir, to our beloved forum. We are so happy to have new members join the family, as you can tell by the excitement generated by your post.

Your story sounds wonderful, Esilis. I like how devoted you seem to be towards making your book Christ exalting and glorifying. How long is the second draft?

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. And if you are looking for a specific section of the forum, we all can help show you the way.

*tosses glitter in jubilation *

Welcome, Esilis! You sound ready to make valuable contributions to the Worlds; how did you find us? Is your book anything like Eragon, or different? Are you using your own language in your signature, or Elvish? How is your language coming along? Were you surprised at all the glitter? Do you like Lemon Poppy Seed muffins?
If the answer to the last question is "Yes", then these are for you. *heaves a giant basket onto the table*

Enjoy your wanderings in the magnificent Holy Worlds!

I think you'll be right at home here, Joe. ;) Pleasure to meet you! You'll find that this glitter-encrusted forum is filled with people that want to honor God with their writing just as you do. I echo the urgings of everyone else on this thread - please tell us about your story! You can post excerpts, or world-building, or language-development, or (preferably) all of the above! We'd be delighted to help you. Just ask if you're not sure what subforum to use.

Have a cupcake, make yourself at home, and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions!

If you're looking for another opportunity to write for God's glory, you might join the Holy Worlds Community Story. Your story- and language-development skills would be an asset! viewforum.php?f=42

Thanks for all the greetings! I am glad of my decision to join already, and I look forward to getting to know you even more.

In regard to all of the questions about the language: I am basing the vocabulary off of Finnish, Norwegian, and Croatian. The grammar structures are based off of anything I am thinking at the moment, mainly off of the German grammar structure (mainly because I studied German for a couple years in high school). The alphabet was invented during a brief spell of boredom, and had very little outside influence from existing fictional alphabets.

Also, forgive me for my ignorance, but why all the glitter? It seems to have some importance...*sprinkles glitter randomly*

Oh! German is fascinating. I want to learn it some day. For one of my fantasy novels, I am borrowing German words with relevant meanings for names of fantasy places/objects, rather than making up words.

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

Welcome and greetings to the humble {well...we flatter ourselves  } Holy Worlds forum! *serves more apple pie and cupcakes and muffins*

Oh, come now, don't get tired of glitter! It can be quite useful. Demonstration: *While being chased by hordes of angry, hungry wolves, I throw glitter into their eyes and blind them. While trapped in a besieged city, I supply glitter for catapult ammunition, then spin a rope out of glitter and escape through the wall, and finally bedeck myself with glitter and awe the besieging army into submission* See? Easy as pie

HI! *does a handspring into the thread with a war whoop*

*sets off the confetti canons*

Mae govannen. :)

Wonderful to meet you! Your language sounds absolutely fascinating! I've considered writing a language, but right now the alphabet is giving me trouble. :P How did you get started on yours?

Welcome Esilis!
May your kingdom be in forever bliss!
May your days be long!
May everyone know how,
Your arrows fly, with a quick hiss,

I don't plan on keeping you long!
Cause that would be all too wrong!
But know right now;
This is the end of this song!

Thorin get the confetti
*walrus comes in with confetti* (I hope I spelled that right)
Ok Balin and Dwalin and Gloin and Thorin...
One!
Two!
Three!!!!
WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*Walruses say welcome along with Namor and shoot confetti at Esilis*

@Evenstar: Wow... Impressive...

@Willow Wenial: Well, As far as the vocabulary goes, I just chose three languages that sounded the coolest with the word "hope" and went from there, I use Finnish, Croatian, and Norwegian (odd combination, I know). The alphabet came from boredom... :D Best of wishes with the language, what do you call yours?

Actually, it sounds like a beautiful combination. :) What I meant was HOW did you construct the alphabet? Like, how did you come up with reasonable symbols? And how did you figure out all the sounds that you would need? And have you worked much with the Etymology of your words?

LOL! Sorry, for all the questions. :D I'm a bit of a language geek. I don't have a name for my language yet, but it's the language of the minotaur. :)

Hmmm... as far as the alphabet goes, I just kinda threw it together with what looked cool, and then started editing from there. You can see a post on my language here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3400 I'm still struggling a bit with pronunciation of the sounds. Every once in a while I get two totally different words that are pronounced the same because I accidentally broke my own pronunciation rules... As far as etymology goes, I haven't given it a thought... :D

I don't mind the questions one bit, questions are good, keep 'em coming! And suggestions too!

Yep, like playing bass and fishing for bass... :D But I'm trying to make it like German and some other languages, where the pronunciation is the EASY part, and you can just say it like it was written, with no confusing pronunciation rules and exceptions...

Well, I don't play bass yet, I was just using that as an example... But I do play fiddle, cello, and piano!

Do you play any instruments?

Welcome to Holy Worlds!

I love making up writing systems. You can see some of them in the scriptorium. Are you going to make more? It is encouraging to see another person interested in making up languages.

I do plan on making more languages and writing systems, first for the dwarves, and possibly High Telnorian (Telnor is the main human country in my books). However, being a college student isn't necessarily conducive to making languages... :D

Creating different languages and stuff is so fun! Making different structure to writing and language are not my strongest points but I like to create three or four different languages per-world! Just makes everything more expansive! :dieshappy:

I love making languages as well! However, I have not the time. Maybe after college I'll have a little more down-time (ha!) to work on that stuff. I do plan on publishing my book in the next year or two, though, so perhaps once it is published I'll be able to set a little more time aside for writing... I can only hope!

School... Bleh :P
I know it's important and everything but why do the school people have to make it so much work!

Actually, I read an article giving scientific arguments against homework in schools (not sure if he was including college, but who knows). The only problem is it is also written by the same guy who wrote an article advocating for removing all competition from competitive games... due to the fact that it had negative effects on our attitudes... I wouldn't trust him with the homework either then... Although I could use with a little less of it :D
