What, the movie? You should. I told Lizzie she had to (not that she didn't want to in the first place) and look how happy she is about it.

Airianna, I finally saw this movie! Bought it sight-unseen, actually. I posted extensive thoughts on the CF.org thread, and went back and forth a bit with some others. I'd be curious if you had any thoughts on my thoughts, though you might not have much time for further discussion. :D

I will have to read what you posted then. I'm glad you bought it! Did you like it?

Yes, indeed! It is utterly delightful in so many ways... and, oh, the animation is gorgeous! I'm a real lover of animation in general, and this suited me nicely.

I do have some bones to pick with the film's overtone in a couple of places. You'll have to read my post(s). Don't take it too harshly... I've had my thoughts critiqued and I really do understand other people's POV. I love Tangled - I just wouldn't do a few things they did in my own scripts.

In short... I didn't love it.
It was okay, but I don't have much of an opinion either way. It was cute, but almost *too* cute most of the time for my tastes.

My slightly longer, not-so-well-written ( ) review -- http://imabitrandom.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... ngled.html

*chuckles * Well of course! We all would write things differently, wouldn't we, if given the chance to do something over?

I'm glad you liked it :D And I'll be interested to see your "bones" in light of my 6 page defense

I will have to reread your defense now that I've actually seen the film, Airi. And I meant how I'd write my own stories, not so much rewriting Tangled itself. :D

I will read your review later, Arias! Moving this to Reviews, for the record.

Very. :D Do you want me to expound on my thoughts further than I did in the CF posts, or should I cross-post perhaps?

For the moment I think I've talked my brain dry. I went back and forth with some people on CF and had my opinions refined some, so I'm at a stable point for now. As I watch the film more and adjust my own impression, I may have other thoughts. :D Thanks, Airi!

Because I think this is a good, decent movie for families, and I don't like it being picked on for issues that I don't see as being an issue? :D

Especially when I am told that I am purporting feminism by defending the movie. *shrugs *

I finally watched it....

It's OK, for a movie. It's a little bit too cutesy for my liking. It's definitely better than their last princess movie, though! (Didn't like the Princess and the Frog)

^ Behold my unreasonable and not well-explained opinion of the movie!

Well it's probably a good thing that two guys weren't all gung-ho for a princess movie ;)

I watched a part near the end at Walmart. I didn't exactly understand what was going on :P . When what looked like the evil character stabbed what looked like the guy MC, I immediately pointed out "There's no blood on the dagger! :o ".

*rolls eyes back* I didn't say I didn't like it. I said it was OK :P Minor difference there.

(On an unrelated note I love how she comes at everyone else full-force with all her explanations, etc, but then for me and Hilly she just says 'typical boys' - I guess we're just hopeless cases and she knows it :dieshappy: )

*chuckles and rolls eyes fondly * Well of course. I can argue the themes of the movie full force, but when you say "It was girly and I didn't care for it", that is totally personal opinion, and unarguable. Besides, you're brothers. That says it all. ;)

I said I liked it, except for the musical aspect of it. The lights scene was a bit too mushy for me, and I did feel the sadness emotion when he was dead. But I knew he had to live again, or else he wouldn't have been able to narrate at the beginning knowing he was gonna die.

Sui, that scene was a little dark and I couldn't tell...but I thought there was blood on it...

Name something I've called mushy (other than my brother's half-eaten 3 week old banana that happens to be sitting on the counter right in front of me as we speak...).

That's disgusting, Hilly. :P Tell your brother to go throw that thing away!

They're creative with the stabbing. Keep the PG rating. :D It works.

Huey, are you going to confess and tell Airianna what you posted on Twitter? Or do I have to transcript the argument for her? ;)

Sui, that scene was a little dark and I couldn't tell...but I thought there was blood on it...

I don't think there was blood on it, but it was dark so I can't be sure.

I finally saw Tangled after realizing that if Shawn, Airianna, and Philli liked it it must be good. :D My family thought I was crazy for actually wanting to watch a Disney princess movie.

That said, I liked it. Well, I sort of liked it. I really wanted to love it, but there was something about it that didn't quite click with me. Perhaps the princess/romance aspect just wasn't my thing. I'd have to agree with Elanhil that the lights scene was too mushy, at least to me. :) I would watch it again, get it for my sisters to watch, but I wouldn't buy it. I guess it just wasn't my kind of movie. :)

I just rewatched Tangled. :D

The lights scene was one of my favorites, actually. For me, it was all about the visual aspect; the lights flying around, the soft glow reflecting off the water, the chameleon, etc. It was amazing in 3D. The romance didn't bug me, except when they started singing. :P

As for the rest of it, Mother Gothel actually appearing to love Rapunzel threw me off. I think there was real affection in that relationship, but it was overriden by selfish aspects on both sides, and that's what disturbed me.

No, there wasn't any blood on the knife. I remember thinking "Wow, that's pretty inaccurate. I know it's only PG, but still!"
That was a great scene, though. The part after it was kind of emotional and mushy, but the graphics were great with the dancing lights as well.

I think I just rewrote my review . . .

Sorry I missed this earlier... :D

authorandrew: Just watched Tangled. I was determined to avoid it just to irk Kaitlyn and Aubrey but it was pretty good =D @aubrey_hansen

aubrey_hansen: @authorandrew You were not determined. I don't believe you for a second on that one. :-P Haha, glad you liked it. Post your thoughts on HW!

authorandrew: @aubrey_hansen I was, I was! =D

aubrey_hansen: @authorandrew Well, you certainly didn't try *very* hard. Try that on Airianna... I don't think she'll buy your "determination" either. ;-)

authorandrew: @aubrey_hansen It was an inner trying. =)

aubrey_hansen: @authorandrew Mmm. Whatever you say... ;-)

authorandrew: @aubrey_hansen For some reason that "Mmm." scares me...

aubrey_hansen: @authorandrew Oh, it does? That's cool. XD I didn't mean anything by it except condescending fondness. :-)

authorandrew: @aubrey_hansen Condescending fondness...that's even scarier ;-)

aubrey_hansen: @authorandrew Somehow I think Airianna would do the same... :-)

authorandrew: @aubrey_hansen *waggles eyebrows* <-- That's what Airianna would do! :-D

aubrey_hansen: @authorandrew Eh heh. I can assure you that "waggles eyebrows" would mean "I don't believe you for a minute," just like I said. ;-)

authorandrew: @aubrey_hansen Exactly ;-) *gives up*

I must say that I wasn't very impressed with it. I watched it on a plane, and now I kind of wish I would have watched the The King's Speech instead. Overall, it was a little too girly, and I don't really like musicals. And I was so disappointed when they cut her hair off! :pale: I enjoyed watching it, but it wasn't quite my type.

I will begin with my overall opinion: I *loved* it to smithereens! I just bought it when it came out on iTunes (for us awesome Mac folks).

Further thoughts:

I think Airi answered the rebellion question very well. It is an issue, but, in context, a small issue that doesn't derail the movie in any way.

Then again, you have to like the overall Disney princess genre to really enjoy it fully, I suppose. But I must say, it was an extreme improvement to, for example, the last Disney "princess" movies, The Princess and the Frog (which I haven't seen but watched trailers/read reviews) and Enchanted (which I like with reservation). The romance wasn't overdone in any way (*yes!*).

And the characters? Flynn *sighs dreamily* And the horse!! Ah, Maximilian, you were one of my favorite characters in the movie. Besides the fying pan. So if you're looking for laughs, this movie has definitely got it.

Plus, I loved the animation. They did a great job balancing realism with painting-like abstract beauty.

Lovely job altogether :) .

I just saw Tangled last night and my whole family laughed all the way through...for the most part. :D

I haven't read the entire thread, so I apologize if I repeat what others have mentioned.

I have to say I loved the graphics in this movie! Did you see the water??? Amazing!

As in all the past cartoon animated movies, there was random singing parts (aka it was a musical). I'm not the hugest fan of musicals, but that doesn't deter me from watching something. Some of the songs can be very catchy and memorable. (At least if you grew up watching the cartoon Disney movies.) *Random side note: Most of my life I've always wondered: "How did they both know the lyrics to the song? And where is the music coming from?!?!?

I love romance. Not in a bad way, but I'm a very emotional person who loves things of the heart. X3 Romance also adds a whole new twist to a book/movie because things will either end well or badly. So the romance between Flynn and Rupunzel didn't bother me at all. I had to laugh hard when he was trying to woo her while being trapped in the chair.

If there's one thing most people would disagree on, it would be Flynn's philosophy on doing bad things as a part of growing up. I think it was made plain enough that his opinion was one of selfishness. (But hey, he's a thief.)

The disobedience on Rupunzel's part is hard, because "Hollywood" sort of blurred the lines on that subject. :P I won't go into that though since I'm sure it's been covered.

Anyhoo, even though it wasn't a perfect movie, I liked it and would watch it again. ^^

@Varon: As a guy, I found it a typical disney movie. Not exactly a waste of time, but then not on my top-ten list :P

I'd probably feel the same way. Sound's like it's ok for a one-time watch, but not a second watch.

Once again, I'm sort of the odd one out. :P

Well, I don't like Disney animated movies in general (Pixar is another matter entirely), nor do I like musicals. I'm a guy and I don't much care for princess movies.

But I looooove Tangled. :D I watched it three times in two days. Is it just me, or was that song in the lantern scene seriously awesome? Well...all the music was extraordinary. As a composer I can appreciate good songs. Graphics were wonderful. Rapunzel was really cute. Maximus and Pascal made everyone laugh...really hard...multiple times. Flynn was a fantastic character change case, as well as one of my favorite character types...the wisecracking, cocky outlaw.

I knew from the moment the old lady cut some of baby Rapunzel's hair off that at some point, the rest of it would go. So I wasn't surprised when Flynn did it...it was a perfect way to show how he'd changed.

I finally saw Tangled, and I liked it fine. The rebellion issues were less troublesome in the actual story than they seem on surface.

What do you mean by that? Do you have any specific examples?

(I'll get you to talk more... even if it's just by defining your terms!)

What did you think of the music? :D
