Here is yet another clip from my glossary.

Sorcery: Sorcery is practiced by many people, including demons, vampires, werewolves, humans, and even a few elves. Sorcery is the most common magick, aside from fortune telling, and sometimes the most difficult. Sorcery’s only rival for difficulty is necromancy, which some combine with sorcery. Sorcery has five levels (necromancy is sometimes considered the sixth), and a person can be a sorcerer or sorceress at any level, however, what skill-level and title they have depends on what level they are. The majority of sorcerers and sorceresses are level one or two. Level one and two are plain sorcerer or sorceress, and they can do little more than healing, casting a curse, and other simple spells. The spells gain difficulty as the levels progress, and fifth level sorcerers are Master Sorcerers. Some Master Sorcerers also learn necromancy, and can then be known as either Master Sorcerer or Master Necromancer. Very few sorceresses learn necromancy, although there are several that are masters of sorcery.

wow...I've read all of your magic posts, and they are fascinating! Very well thought out. I like books that have complex systems of magic.:)

Thanks, Mindy! :D
I kinda have to make it complex, in order to fully explain why magick is evil.

How are do they know when the have progressed another level in sorcery. Can they jump from like level one to level three if they don't learn the level two things, but learn the level three things?

No, it's like grades. You can't skip everything that's taught in second grade and still understand third grade. Or, i suppose a better example would be martial arts. You can't skip from white belt (first) to purple belt (fifth), because purple belt builds on everything taught in between.

Love your magic Elestar! So is this sorcery demon related like your necromancy?

All my magic is demon related. (except for some Fortune Telling; the faked kind)

Okay, that makes sense.

Magic would have to be demon related, if it doesn't come from God or a talent God gave.

Actually there are three possibilities for magic.

1: God and miracles
2: Demon related
3: Alchemy which is science that behaves like magic

You are right. However, to try to avoid confusion (which hasn't seemed to work anyway), I don't term what God gives as "magick". Because, in my world, the definition of "magick" isn't miracles or abilities, which is what God gives, but the power to control and manipulate things. In my world, magick is what allows people to go beyond what they are meant to be, without turning to God. My magick is not something that comes from God.

I don't know how many people have read Tolkien, but when the Fellowship is in Lothlorien (I think) and Sam talks about "elf magic", the elves don't know what he's talking about. To him, it seems like magic, but to them, it is just natural ability. My POV is something like that.

So, I have all possibilities, but only one is true magick (#2). #3 is trickery or science (sometimes both), and #1 is not real magick. It's God.

So how does it differ from Necromancy?

Necromancy deals specifically with the dead. Sorcery covers every other aspect. Mostly, it's manipulation through demons, but there are some other areas that I have yet to explore.

Hmm I was thinking, since the demons are obviously more powerful the sorcerers, it might make sense for a single demon to have many sorcerers rather then for a sorcerer to have many demons if you get my drift.

That's kind of where I want to take it. The sorcerer's don't really control the demons; they merely summon them. It all leads to their own downfall in the end.
