All right. Here's my challenge; and it's hard. Based off of one picture, and one picture only, write a short story of around 500-1000 words. :) I actually don't have any pictures to post yet (at least not any that would be good for inspiration) but when I find some I shall post them :)

And I on Deathly Visage!

Actually, I think several people writing stories based off the same pic would be really neat.

Oh, what do we do with our stories once we write them? Post them here? Post them in the Fireside and post links here? Just announce that we did it and brag?

I wrote two different stories and a poem on the same image. The word counts are:

240
113
1646

As you can see, none of those are between 500-1000 words. *sigh*

Linkies are as follows:

Picture: http://diekisdreamings.blogspot.com/201 ... cence.html

Poem and short-short: http://katies-song.blogspot.com/2011/02/wind-child.html

Long-short: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2210

I'm assuming we just find a picture for ourselves and write a story? Or does it have to be an 'approved' picture...?

Mine might be a bit late too.

If somebody writes a story about it, I'd like to post it on my blog in a few days. (With their permission, of course.)

Sure, anybody who wants to can write about it. :) It'll be interesting to see what you all come up with.

I used these stock photos:
  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/njj4/5039497145/
  • http://liam-stock.deviantart.com/art/Black-Magic-18-129082746

On the land photo I did the following:
  • Removed the tall grass, the fence, and the road w\clone tool.
  • Removed some of the rocks to make them be in a more perfect circle.
  • Removed people.
  • Removed trees.
  • Made the mountain significantly taller and steeper.
  • Removed signs of civilization from the background.
  • Raised the foreground hill further above the background, for an illusion of height.
  • Flipped the left side of the close background and put it on the right, for more epicness.

To the sorceress I did the following:
  • Altered arm angle.
  • Recolored dress to red.

To the clouds I did the following:
  • Emphasized dark and light streaks in clouds.
  • Added green color
  • Add light over center

In compositing the elements I did the following:
  • Shaded and highlighted the rocks in the foreground.
  • Powerfully vignetted the hill and the upper corners of the clouds.
  • Color-corrected all elements, to make them both darker and to color them cyan.

I think I could write a novel off of this one.

I think I might try this... I need more short stories for my blog, and I love Dieki's photos!

Wow, I love your photos too Dieki, I gotta try it! I just am having trouble picking which one... they're all so much fun. I'll be a little late too since I just got hooked on this reading all the stories. ;)

The Website
The novel: Chosen Sister -- When the Gold Wizard magically selects Reina's younger brother as the Child Warrior prophesied to defeat the Red Wizard, Reina has mixed feelings—jealousy and concern. Austyn is only six. Allowed to accompany her brother, Reina soon finds they're in deeper trouble than she thought. The Gold Wizard's fake beard is ripped off by attacking harpies, revealing he's only seventeen, not to mention his magical demonstrations tend to go awry. Unfortunately, with the Red Wizard's harpies and snakewolves on their trail, finding a new (and better) wizard mentor is hardly an option.

Y'all might enjoy this gorgeous collection of pictures. (Deiki, I'd love to see what you'd do if you played with some of these!) Urban decay. Aka, old buildings. Some are very fantasy-ish... but all are beautiful.

(Yes, I have a strange affinity for anything that looks OLD. The older and more vintage the better.)

I can't use any of them, sorry. They don't have a notice indicating their copyright status, so I have to assume they aren't under a usable license. :(

Well I... still haven't completed the challenge. It's a poem just short of three hundred words.

Based on the entire collection of pictures Phili linked to: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2292

Me wants more! Someone else post a picture or two. They really get me motivated to write, and I've yet to fall within the designated word count. :D

I like that. * wonders if she'll get around to trying it * Reminds me of the fantastical vision-like scenes from the book I'm currently reading...

Here is a drabble inspired by Seer's picture "The Road":

"Follow the Road"

The heavens were changing: Darker days and brighter nights, stars growing in size and number. Everyone saw it, including Nodin.

Some said it was the end of the world. Some said a new age was dawning. Nodin’s dreams told him judgment was coming.

He had once sinned like the rest. But no more. The Holy One spoke to him, telling him to flee and follow the road.

So he did.

Then the stars fell.

The cities were consumed.

But he, and the others who forsook their sins and took to the roads, were safe.

It was time to rebuild.

I've been staring at that picture of yours for three days, Dieki, without success. :P
