Greetings,

In the interest of being able to better serve the community on this site and forum, I have set up and shared two folders on google docs. The Holy Worlds Revision Folder, and the Holy Worlds Development Folder. Those who have access to these can upload files to them and comment on files already there.

The goal is to better facilitate a community of editors and quality work.

All you need to do is get an account with google docs (free) and send me a pm requesting access. If you have a gmail account, you already have access to google docs.

I will now describe how we are going to use these two folders.

HOLY WORLDS REVISION FOLDER

In the interest of helping keep author's work private and publishable, this folder is not going to be shared with anyone but those who specifically request permission. In essence, it will be like giving a copy to your friends to read and review. This will, I hope, make publishers less wary of publishing your work. If some are still picky, let them be picky.

Never edit someone else's work. Only comment, and let the author edit at his/her discretion and leisure based off of your comments. You can highlight the text referred to, and then insert a comment directly afterwards. Always be encouraging and helpful, of course.

HOLY WORLDS DEVELOPMENT FOLDER

Use this folder for things that you do not mind being more public (like the rest of the forum). I might give access to this folder as an exclusive privilege to people in the general public for promotional purposes. The same editing rules apply as above.

Feel free to ask any questions or post comments.

I went to google docs, and I think I get what you did. Is this so that we can let everyone on the forum read our stories and other stuff and comment directly on them?
And one more question: Who would be able to see the posts in development folder? Everyone? Or just some people?
Sorry if I'm a little confused!

Only those whom I give access to will be able to see them. Therefore, you will even be able to share publishable stuff (theoretically) in the Revision folder. I will be very limiting in access to that one. However, the Development folder might be opened to people who subscribe to the blog, or for other promotional purposes.

Did that answer your questions?

Sir Emeth, you said that you would be limiting access to the HWRF. If someone wanted to gain access to that folder, would they have to place their documents there, or should we just ask you and let you say yes or no?

I'm a little confused as well. Maybe the answer is right in front of my face and I just missed it. I seem to be good at that.

You don't have to put anything in there, you just need to ask permission for access.

Alright, I think I understand this now. Now to figure out how to use Google Docs.... lol

So would I be able to post my story after I finish editing it, so everyone with access can read it and help me edit it further by giving their advice?

So, um, how very limiting will you be? That is to say, are there requirements one must meet to be granted access? :/

He's not very limiting. :) You should be fine, if you want access.

Yep! One requirement: membership. And since you're posting and sending private messages, you passed. :)

I have added you.

Though, it should be noted that the two folders have now been merged into one folder, or rather, they have been for some time. They are now merely the Holy Worlds Docs folder. :)

Yeah...

Isn't Andrew the person in charge of giving access for the HW folder now?

Ok, I have a question. The short story I want to post is on my personal google docs, how should I share it with the Holy Worlds folder? Should I just create a new doc and paste the story into it? Also, it is about 1200 words long, should I do it in two parts? Any other advice for using the Holy Worlds docs?

Leave it in one part. That's one of the glories of google docs: they can be full length novels if you want them to be. No size limits.

In your docs page, check/select the doc you want to share, then click the little folder button up above (a little title should pop up saying "organize"), a list of folders will show up, including the HW folder, check the box next to the HW folder and click Apply Changes. :)

I think there's an index in there which you can update with what you add, but I'm not sure.

Thank you, I got it on there! One thing though:

There should be a doc in there which lists all the documents that are in the folder, and various details about them. If you can find it, you can update it with what you add to the folder, if you want.
