Alternative to Microsoft Word?

As you may have guessed from the title, I'm trying to find a free alternative or version of Microsoft Word for our Windows Vista laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions or linkies? I'm leery of trying anything off of the internet as I really don't want to download a virus.

I use open office, you can download it free and I've never had a problem with it

Why do I keep reading things wrong?? Anyhow it's an alternative to Microsoft so not sure if you're at all interested in that or not

You really can't go wrong with OpenOffice. It can even open Word files and save word files. (it also works on Linux/Ubuntu machines, if you happen to get into that later too...)

It can do everything MSoffice can do, and the best part: you can access your files from anywhere. (not to mention that every file is backed up automatically. you can never lose a file if your computer goes down)
