You know guys; here is something to think about. I've done some study in advertising. That is a critical element to selling your book. I actually turned to looking at movie advertising and found some interesting info.

Think about it, what is the old adage? Bad publicity is better than no publicity. Right?

You might be surprised to know that this is something generally practiced in the Hollywood (generalized statement, other production companies are included) world.

Informed people intentionally leak info onto the web and into the media to peak people's interest in an upcoming film. I'm sure you all know this. But it is also those people's jobs to leak false information into the media that isn’t true, especially when that film is based off a book (because it already has an established fan base ready to defend it). They choose info to twist that will generate the most heat and discussion before the movie. This gets the name out and boils everyone's blood long before the movie hits the screen. I read somewhere that this increases the percentage of people who will go and see the movie in the theaters by a decent percentage, due to all the heat that has come from these "rumors from a reliable source". Lots of the conflicting info comes from the same people who give you the correct information. So while someone might say they heard from a "reliable source" that reliable source could just be using them to fuel the selling of box-office tickets.

Just food for thought. :)

Yep, so don't trust anybody.
Is anyone by chance planning on camping out by the movie theater to watch the midnight showing?

Good point... but it doesn't seem to have worked for Narnia... **remembers some very interesting rumours that went around a while back** Maybe it's because after PC, the fanbase doesn't trust the filmmakers anymore?

Which means someone fell down on their job and got in big trouble! :D They actually pay people to do this stuff.

"So, what do you do?"

"Oh, I am a fully funded gossip. I get paid to spread rumors all over the web and throughout the media." :D

You're referring to the leaked script incident? (which I missed, but have been hearing about for months...)

That's probably why before movies come out there are so many rumours about who's going to be in them....even if those actors don't actually end up being in the film. (like on IMDB)

Very interesting rumors that came true! New witch, green mist of death, Lucy tearing the beauty spell out of the book... *mumbles incoherantly*
And everyone laughed at them. Oh dear.

And yes, that's actually a very valid point. Who knows? If it does come true we should be hearing stuff pretty soon, though, and seeing who this girl is. I think filming starts in Febuary(?)

I actually don't know many of the specifics from that leaked script, but I do remember one particular rumour going around that Caspian would mistake Lucy for Susan in the first scene.... which turned out to be false.

I would love a Turin Turambar movie. :D And a Beren and Luthien Movie. And a Farmer Giles of Ham movie too. :D

OH, of course. I LOVE Farmer Giles of Ham. :D

Mine too... I don't remember anyone throwing arrows, but I can't quite conceive how that would be effective either. They're not big enough (or heavy enough) for spears...

I'm trying to work out a formula to show if it would work according to Sir Fig Newton or not. I just like this guy, and have to work things out according to him. Standby.

Not only do I detest warrior girls, but the casting call sounds like the summaries of countless LotR fanfics. Ugh. So unoriginal. Anyways, isn't The Hobbit supposed to be about, well, the hobbit?

Actually, only the first part is about "The Hobbit." The rest is supposedly about the 60 years between "The Hobbit" and LotR.

They can't do that! I hate it when people ruin movies with their own ideas. Has anyone seen the Voyage of the Dawn Treader? Did they ruin that one?

I have. They didn't. I liked it better than both the two previous ones. It is on my Wow List. :)

I didn't read the whole thread but am curious where you got your info? I have read theonering.net since 2006 and have never seen anything about the elven girl, and all the dwarves have been cast (as males).

Theonering.com, under the Hobbit section, in the thread titled something like "Female characters in the Hobbit." It's been talked about other places, too, but that's the site with the biggest convo about it.

I agree. But I have been unable to make my friends understand why it was such a good movie. Everyone complains. They didn't do this. They didn't do that.

Well, at least they kept the meaningful elements this time, eh?

I didn't really like it all that much. It was boring and choppy with absolutely none of the main theme, which was just happy Lucy/Narnia love story and cruise, with some beautiful contemplative parts. It looked nice, but the characterizations and the real story that mattered just wasn't there at all. Yuck. I want them to make Silver Chair because since it's its own self-contained adventure I think they'll be better at it, but I can't really bring myself to shovel more money that way.

Hey guys,
There's actually a thread regarding the Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie here, so if you'd like to discuss the movie that would be the place to do it. ;)

So to break the depressing lack of rumors, here's a new one; Frodo possibly being in the Hobbit. Here's the direct quote, from "Deadline"...
Quote:
I've heard talk of conversations with Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and possibly Elijah Wood. I'd heard Orlando Bloom was also in talks before the holidays.

I'm kind of reserving judgement right now. I'm not sure how this would work, though. Some people are saying that Frodo might do a beginning narrating type thing, like Galadriel did in the FotR. That sounds kind of odd to me, but I don't know. Frodo is the one who writes most of the Red Book, obviously. You guys have any thoughts? I'm too tired to formulate an opinion right now. Someone bring up a brilliant point, please?
Of course this is a really unofficial rumor and a small deal at that. But there aren't enough Hobbit rumors going around. We need something to do, right?
