So I'm curious, is this a common writer's disease?

I yell at my computer, I argue with programs. I plead with the furniture, and of course I get furious with my characters. My family will randomly hear me start exclaiming in aggravation and I have to explain I was talking to the computer. Especially printers, I have a serious problem with printers. And the Linux OS seems almost sentient...

So. Anyone else talk to random objects?

Not me. Other than sometimes calling something a piece of junk when it doesn't work.

Dogs, on the other hand, I talk to all the time. :D

I guess it depends on my mood and that of the inanimate object.

My dog isn't an inanimate object, but she and I have full conversations. :D

Sometimes I mutter death-threats to the computer when it fills up with disc space and I can't get rid of anything, and now since I can't play music or videos on here.
Sometimes I'll talk to an opinionated stuffed animal if I'm alone, just for the sake of doing so. ;)

Oh! I've done this quite a bit too. Especially to MS Word when it was having a fit about actually working. I muttered and grumbled and cried at it so much
I've never yelled at a chair.... I think....but I've certainly gotten mad at characters!

I also seem to be good at yelling random syllables when I upset...

The majority of my family does this, usually with uncooperative electronics... but I think we only do it when another human is around to listen and "benefit." :D

Except the cat. Everybody talks to the cat. :D

I don't yell at Quentin (my computer) as much as I used to. I name all my electronics though... My zune is Sam, mp3 player is Philip, gameboy is Skeeter, web cam is Ron...Yeah, I also talk to my plants (and name them). It's normal.

We named my dad's computer Alfred, but I can't remember naming anything else. That's cool though. :D

I do that too actually! Sometimes I even talk to myself, and answer myself. It's weird...

Now I feel that if I don't name my computer I will be the abnormal one.

I have a habit of making random noises while I go up and down the stairs. Does that count?

Sometimes I'll be doing something and ask myself a question that happens to be completely unrelated. Then I have to stop and ask myself what I said or what brought that up.

I pleaded with my USB.disk just last week. It has all my original documents, photos, spreadsheets, ect. on it. I plugged it in and now it doesn't work! *forced grin* The funny part is, I didn't make any copied onto my computer! EVERYTHING IS LOST!!!! Unless, I can get Miracle computers to exercise what they advertise: a miracle.

My whole family talks to our cats. We tend to have conversations with them and ask them questions quite often.

Otherwise, I don't often speak with inanimate objects. ^^

Ohhh, yes. My computer definitely has a mind of its own, and I have been known to threaten it numerous times. I talk to the mirror...a lot. And the shower gets sung to often and also, on occasion, gets a deep conversation. I usually just talk to thin air though instead of a thing. Myself keeps me good company at times.

Shadowfax usually just listens to me--he's a nice, docile, little HP. =D I think my characters are the only ones I talk to, though I have been known to converse with the pets we have (had). Also, I guess I do talk to the shower, sometimes. But only when I'm really deep fat fried. Oh--and we shouldn't forget ranting at textbooks. They never answer, though.

(Ah--just remembered--I carry on conversations with HTML documents and CSS stylesheets. Stupid property's not working! ;))

I talk to thin air a lot. I also will ramble to/yell at (though not loudly, I'm too introverted for that...) my notebooks and textbooks (especially Geometry and Biology) and sketchbooks when things aren't working right. I hold on conversations with my rabbits practically every time I go out to feed them or just check on them. Everyone, even my Dad, talks to our dog. :)

At night, my sister says that she hears me talking and laughing at no one in particular. :P

And my computer's name is George, but usually, I just call him. "You stupid piece of junk!"

And I apologize to silverware. :P When I have to choose a spoon or a fork, or a knife to use I always feel sorry for the other ones. *blush* Why did you have to start this thread?! LOL! :D

Oh. And everyone in my family talks to the cat also. :D

On the topic of "the others", I feel bad when I trigger an automatic door and I don't want to walk through it...

I pretty much never talk to inanimate objects, but I have muttered to myself sometimes. Whenever I am alone, and I come to a conclusion, make a resolution, or want to remember something important, I will say it out loud.
And, yes, I have talked to my reflection a lot.
My daddy talks to his tools when he's working on something. :D

Hmm...I can't say as I've talked to inanimate objects more than a couple times, but I often hold conversations with myself.

I talk to the air sometimes. Mostly in Quenya, Latin, Huttese and recently old English.

Sometimes, when I am at home alone, I'll talk to our pets Tessa and Mollie. Sometimes they will answer by blinking or barking (Mollie is a cat and Tessa is a puppy). I also talk to the computer when it is making me mad. :D

Occasionally. However, the strangest thing I've noticed myself doing is talking like my character. Like, if something comes to mind that I want them to say, or a scene, I'll parrot it. Good way to look crazy. :)

I talk to myself...but I don't think I count as an inanimate object. :?

Well, I do talk to my dog, who can't respond, and occasionally to the TV, when its being annoying.
