I spend too much time at Dominoes. Or rather, I spend to much time thinking at Dominoes. Complicate that with the fact that I'm reading steampunk nano drafts and you have something that I'm describing as Fantasy/scifi/steampunk. Since the synopsis isn't very cohensive I'll tell you it's set in a science fiction off-world, in a fantasy setting, with steampunk elements I haven't worked out yet. Someone tell me whether I'm insane or brilliant?

**

Sariniel is an ordinary working girl in the kingdom of Saven-Dor, until the head chef Stan burns dinner for the royal family and has to send out for pizza. But he forgets that the doorbell is broken, chewed through by rats months ago, so when Sariniel arrives he doesn’t hear her at the servant door. Annoyed she goes around to the front, where the butler greets her. He has no money, so leaves her standing in the parlour while he fetches Stan, and that’s how a simple, hard working delivery girl meets the prince of Saven-Dor.

Will you please write this? I want to read it. :D One question: Could rats chew through a door bell? Also, she seems pretty cocky to go to the front door of the palace; my thought is that she could get in big trouble.

That's cute. I really like it! What's the "slipper?" Who's the "fairy godmother?" Who's the "stepmother and stepsisters?" Is it going to be a bright happy Disney type thing or a darker old German type thing? A darker one could be cool; add some darkness to what could seem like a happy, somewhat silly story.
So I like it! And yay Steampunk! I'm just finding out about it and falling in love with it.

And Shawn, rats can chew through anything. It's crazy.

That sounds fantastic. If you're insane, it's a brilliant insane. :P I'd pick up and read a book that had that for the cover blurb.

Okay, that works. Ooh, you could bring in rats that talk in squeaky voices, sing, and dance who chew through the doorbell so "Cinderelly" could meet the "Princey"! ;)

Again, please do write it!

I read this first as "I spend too much time with dominoes. Or, rather, I spend too much time thinking about dominoes." Just when I was asking myself how much time one could possibly spend thinking about dominoes, I reread it. Oi.

At any rate, this is very interesting! :D I do hope you write it. And Steampunk...I have never actually read a Steampunk book, but as soon as I get my hands on one I shall. It's a fascinating genre.

I've always loved fairy tales re-told.

She is a little cocky. It could potentially get her into trouble, except this is kind of a laid back kingdom... It's got a little bit of "Sapsorrow" in it too. I'm not entirely all sure how it works yet. I haven't decided if she has a step mother or if she's an orphan and the "Step-mother" is the guy she works for. Step sisters are easily arranged once I decide that.

Wow, I didn't expect such a positive response. I thought it was a little outrageous... but I guess it's outrageous in a good way. It's going to be a very happy, laid back type fairytale.

*Goes off to write, ignoring everything else she's supposed to be doing...*

Oh, and since I'm in such a Christmasy mood, I really want to make this a Christmas story. (How many genres can I smash together into one story???)

How, specifically, does one set a Christmas story off-world?

In answer to your first question, A lot. You obviously haven't heard my idea for Shattering the Dark. So far, it has a mix of fantasy, spy fi, historical fiction, and subtler hints different genres.

*shrugs* I don't really know. You could have a similar holiday in that world, I guess. :?

I'm happy you're writing it! :D

In fairy tales, Christmas often exists anyways. So I don't think it'll be a problem.

Make the 'ball' some kind of Christmas celebration?

Exactly. A Christmas ball. :D I want all the typical elements, red and green and snow and Christmas trees... but it's off-world... *ponders*

You could have your readers assume that you will write (or have) some long explanation that makes sense. :D

But first I get to torment you all by talking about it here for a week.

Wheeee! You don't know how happy this made me. :D times, maybe, 20.
And for Christmas, you could have it be Yule instead. A Yule Ball or feast or something could still have the same effect (unless you want your characters singing "What Child is This?") but be less of a "Where did that come from?" Because some people, like me, who think too much have lost sleep trying to figure out where Christmas came into Narnia.

Neat idea Jaynin :D

Your thread title reminded me of a fanfic/rewrite/thing I read a few months ago. It's was the craziest "Beauty and the Beast" (East of the Sun, West of the Moon) remake I've ever heard of  but it was ridiculously awesome at the same time. (hint-hint)

Thus I think yours will be even better, because all they did was expand the story and make it more complected. I'd recommend it, but I have a vague feeling there was swearing or something in it.... I should go read it again....

Oh, now I remember, Melody. *feels stupid for forgetting.*

It's a children's story. You don't question Christmas. that's what makes Narnia so awesome... the whole fairy tale feel of it.

*loves fairytales*

Oh yes, this should be fun! I love steampunk, and I think the ridiculous combination of elements will be enjoyable.

It makes sense to me that she goes to the front door, especially if she is a bit cocky and clueless. Perhaps she's never been outside of the castle, or she was recently hired. "I mean, where else do you go, if the back door's locked? The front door, of course!" That kind of thing.

Let me guess... the prince thinks she's a pizza delivery girl, so he looks for her that way - when really she's living in his kitchen? Insert a wicked pizzeria owner, and ta-da!

A children's tale where they have Bacchinalias....
I'm a fanfic writer. We dissect every little thing. And my view of Narnia is most likely not yours. (I won't go into it now, suffice it to say it has more in common with a Bacchinalia than any sort of courtly, chivalrous place) Therefore, I question things Lewis randomly threw in. Which I am allowed to do.
I'm trying to bring it back to your story, but I can't think of anything besides what's the "ball?" And most importantly what's the slipper?

I need sharp spears and threats of Raczr. (I have no sewing machine, and I daren't touch my mom's, so no worries there.)

I wrote one scene and can't seem to get into the next one...

Oh. And I also need a title.
