When you do your speeches for speech class on Tolkien.

When while researching for said speech you discover how to say "Merry Christmas!" in Quenya. (Ná merye i turuhalmeri! -- supposedly ;) )

When you begin writing your friends/pen pals in Tengwar or Cirth. (I wish!)

*cough* speaking of dreams
When you dream you've joined the Fellowship on their quest and any plot deviations seem perfectly normal (you even justify them in your mind!) You then wake up from that dream in your dream and Gandalf is waiting for you at the end of your driveway to go visit Saruman in his two-story high wooden tower....
I am not crazy. (and this was before Inception was even plotted  )

Well you could also say you know you are a Tolkien fan if you:

1. Are able to watch the movies over and over.

2. Are able to recite the entire books.

3. Have posters scattered all over your room. (I only have political posters.)

You know your friend is a Tolkien fan when he says he can't remember. :D

Living in a house in a hill, as long as it was full size for humans, would probably be fun.

To quote one of my friends when I asked her if she'd read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy--

"They have books now too?!?!"

So I had to educate her. ;)

Was that Tristan? :D

It's sad, isn't it? Maybe this is why C.S. Lewis did not want his books to be made into movies...

I wouldn't mind Galadriel. It kind of makes sense- I heard he's trying to get in some backstory about Dol Guldur; with Gandalf being captured there, everyone being scared of it, etc. I could see a little cameo role with Galadriel talking about it, and I'd actually possibly like it; remember she destroys it.
I hope they keep Celeborn out. Sorry for any Celeborn fans out there, but the guy just makes me laugh. In the book he was alright, if a little dense, but in the movie he's just this guy who talks in a monotone and hides behind his wife. The only good part with him was when he was talking to Aragorn about gifts and Arwen but alas! that scene was banished to the EE.
And Legolas. I am so tired of Orlando Bloom and the fact that He. Must. Get. In. Your. Face. Every. Single. Line. but Leggie being in it makes tons of sense. Remember who his daddy is? I could see another small role with him walking around or stating the obvious or some such things.
If they give either of them a large role though, I'll be mad. Especially if it's Leggie.
I'm actually more worried about rumors about this character called Itaril. She's this Mirkwood princess who basically sounds like a horrible Mary-Sue, with her Speshul Talent! with the sword and the bow and how she's Independent! Don't need a man! until she falls in love (possibly with Erestor, Elladan, or Elrohir) and how she's Really Beautiful! I'm worried about this. For more info, see theonering . com's Hobbit section under something like "Female characters in the Hobbit."

-You made up your own characters and played LotR
-You made different versions of LotR that you played
-You were often confused while playing because you hadn't seen the movies, and your friends hadn't read the books

-When your old paperback copy of "The Fellowship of the Ring" is so fragile that you have to hold it gently and reverently in your hands to read it. (It's my father's copy; he's the one who wore it out. He is definitely a fan.)

-When you take said old copy, and carefully use Scotch tape to fortify what's left of the back cover and the curling, crumbling last few pages. Because if you don't do this, the last page is in danger of falling off.

When you read ALL the appendices and would be in heaven if you were allowed to write your history paper on one of them (but alas).

When you go for a walk and immediately start humming "the road goes ever on and on" without even realizing it.

When you frequently whisper "I don't think he knows about second breakfasts Pip" to your best friend.

I don't do that personally, but I know someone else who says that occasionally. :D

*Gasp* Did you really do that? Was it spontaneous or a planned performance?

^ Ohh, my brother's done that! It was at Ren Fest, though, so people thought he was awesome rather than strange.

You're extremely proud of the fact that your books are so crumbly.

You randomly make Silmarillion references around strangers because you're desperate to find someone else who's read it in Real Life.

...when you know that March 25th is the anniversary of the Ring's destruction and await the day eagerly!
...when you intend to watch the portion of the movie in which the Ring perishes just for the occasion!
...when you tell your friend who probably couldn't care less that her birthday is the official Ring destruction day.

THAT'S COMING RIGHT UP!!!

When your pulse rises as you listen to the fight scenes on the sound track and you cry when you hear the Gandalf and Boromir dying music. :'(

- When you are convinced that a guy you saw lately was really Eomer.... and you spend nearly two weeks waiting to see if he will approach you and tell you your true heritage..... (almost five years ago.... ;.; His wife *I thought they were faking at first* looked like Eowyn too... *face palms*)
-Never mention potatoes around my Dad. ;D
-When you listen intently to another fan when he retells his story when he got his *fake* ring... (long, long time ago also... I miss him...)
- when you pinch your ear tips daily to try and make them grow pointy.. XD *guilty*

You know you're a Tolkien fan when you have named and normally use LOTR names for your brother and sisters...
I have:
Gollem (My little brother)
Galadrial (My little sister)
Arwyn (my other little sister)
Eowyn (my other little sister)
And Sauron... My bigger brother *sigh*

You know you are a Tolkien fan when...
Someone says: "I know more about LOTR then you;" and you are in a two hour debate of questions and answers about LOTR (I won of course! :dieshappy: )

Oh my I've done that

You know you're a Tolkien fan when...
You are seriously offended that Mr. Peter didn't put in good ole' Bombadil. AND: He gave the:
Drink water, dig deep,
Eat earth, go to sleep.
Poem, which was originally Tom's... and gave it... TO AN ENT! That is Tom's song to the great willow!!!! HOW CAN THIS TREACHERY BE?!?!
