*clears throat*
Okay. Idk if any of you have gone to see it yet, or if you're still waiting for the dvd release. Here's a little advice/review for you from someone who grew up adoring the original.
1. It's not the same story. Please save yourself trouble and don't go into the theater thinking this is going to be a parallel of our dear old favorite. I think it was a wise decision not to do a direct retelling. Leave the old gem as it is, take the elements that made it so beautiful and grand, and weave a whole new tale for both old and new generations alike.
2. It is beautiful. If you're looking for a good comical/actiony film, PD should prolly not be your first choice. But it is sweet, precious, gorgeous, and heartfelt. It can be a little slow, but it's like watching a really well-done home video, or like living in the story of a photograph or painting. There's something serene about the whole film.
3. Not a musical. XD I think everyone knows that.
4. IMPORTANTLY the new film stays to the old film's ideals and themes of family, love, worth, and belonging.
5. Elliot. Is. Perfect. While the story may be different, and the world too, Elliot is irrevocably Elliot. From his facial expressions, reactions to the events around him, protective bear instincts, clumsy-clever beauty, love for Pete, etc. Elliot is just amazing. I cried and grinned when he was on screen.
6. There's a song in the credits that makes me cry. I'm emotional though, but it's beautiful.
7. It is worth your watching. That's all. It is worth it. I came away with such an immense feeling of peace and contentment, along with a feeling of adventure and longing, it's so perfect. Go see this movie, you won't regret it. <3
