Break out the punch, glitter, and cupcakes--Holy Worlds is 7 years old today!

I want to thank Aidan for coding the confetti and cute balloon graphic for us. Three cheers for the tech team! :D

It's been a crazy seven years--and I expect the next year to be even crazier. o.O There are a lot of changes on the horizon, including a brand new forum, so who knows... maybe we'll have another party later this year... ;)

SUGAR AND CAFFEINE FOR ALL!!

You know, I noticed a Facebook "on this day" about beginning my day three years ago by joining in the Holy Worlds birthday celebrations, came here, noticed the confetti, decided to make a thread, and was called away from my computer for twenty minutes ... only to find someone had stolen my thunder, so to speak.

In past years we've had a whole room of the forum, with "forum games" (some of which are still going in General Discussion), traditional threads (most notably a virtual "register" to "sign," plus one for characters), and much silliness ... but with the forum and community undergoing what one might call "pangs of rebirth," I suppose a more muted celebration is called for, particularly since even in my mere three or fourhmm, five years here at least once if not twice the "birthday celebration" was delayed by at least a month because the organizers forgot about it. :/

Lt. General Hansen wrote:

Just to be obstinate, I shall cry, "Let sense and decorum prevail!"

(Since, as any reader of The Phantom Tollbooth should know, the slogan "Silence is Golden!" would not lead to any good result. :))

I will make my now-traditional mark here:

A tall young man dressed in black and aster-gold, with a streak of grey in his untidy black hair, hastens distractedly into the room. Glancing at his watch, and narrowly avoiding stepping in a dropped cupcake, he makes his way up to the table, and writes:

Ego, Jonathan (rex-joannes) Lovelace, Poet Chronographusque in Terrae Cycli Candentis, historiae Vaynahimis, Regni Apricitatis, Imperii Candentis Rudisque, et terrae rerumque conexarum, hic in communionem virtualis qui se vocat Mundi Sacri hoc die aniversarii septimi conditii XII a.d. Kalendae October anno Domini MMXVI.

(I, Jonathan (kingjon) Lovelace, Poet and Chronicler in Earth of the Shine Cycle, history of Vaynaheim, the Sunshine Kingdom, the Shine and Wild Empire, and associated countries and events, was here in the virtual community calling itself Holy Worlds on the day of the seventh anniversary of its founding, September 20 of the year of our Lord 2016.)

To that legibly-printed paragraph, the young man adds a nearly indecipherable scrawl that must be his name, then a blob of wax which he marks with a silver seal. He then steps back from the table, again blinking a tear from one eye when he sees the notable absences from the room. And in a flash of light, additional text is automatically appended to the page.

Many happy returns of the day, HolyWorlds! I'm glad to be around for this, your lucky celebration, and I wish you the very best of years ahead. And my don't you look pretty with all that confetti!

Seven years? Good heavens! How long have I been here then? Six and a half, probably? What a time it's been over here. In the name of tradition, which kingjon has so excellently revised.

A young man strides in, clad in a cloak as purple as the midnight sky, dotted with pricks of starlight that twinkle as one watches, with a coat of mail as silver as the ice in Jupiter's moons, and a large pistol at his hip. He takes up a quill and writes in the ledger.

I, Varon, sign now to confirm my presence at the seventh anniversary of the Holy Worlds.

I love the confetti.

You've all done a great job keeping it going for this long. May it last many more years. Maybe even long enough that I won't feel like a new comer.

Man, the forum's that old? I never quite realized... how time flies. It's been more than three years since I joined.

With a flash of golden light, a portal opens in a corner of the room, depositing a slim young man before vanishing. The young man tugs briefly at the orange brooch clasping the throat of his white cloak and glances about, noting with disappointment how few people are in the room.

He produces a pen from somewhere under his cloak and scrawls briefly in the ledger: "Jakorosin was here". He snatches up a cupcake and salutes the Lt. General on his way out.

A young man steps into the room. His purple cape swirls behind him but his camouflage ring (so fine that it could only have been created by master Reiyen himself) reveals what everyone already knew, he is marked a rebel.

The burns around his face reveal him to be a bug dragon slayer but he attempts his best smile and strides to sign the ledger.

"Sir Iarrthoir Criost, resident in this fair land for the past four years, was here on this, the seventh birthday of Holy Worlds."

He turns to face the small but present group of friends in the room.

I may not be a veteran but I have seen battles, I may not be a newcomer but I have much to learn, my friends, here's to another year of Holy Worlds!

Ten months since the previous post in this thread, a year to the day since Aubrey started it, it's time to wish the forum a happy eighth birthday!

How strange it feels to be here again. This place meant so much to me as a young teen. Happy Birthday HW!

I should set Jon as the official date keeper of Holy Worlds... because I cannot hold on to dates for the life of me. o.O

This is a good time of year to appreciate everyone who invested into this forum, past and present, and everyone who's currently on it, making it what it is. Our birthdays are meaningless without family. ^_^ *hugs and cupcakes all around*

I never remember Holy Worlds' birthday before the day itself (unless I've been privy to planning going on the Moderators' private room, as used to happen), but because I posted about the "birthday party" on Facebook a few years back, the "On This Day" feature now reminds me every year, once the day arrives. :)

On the other hand, there are any number of ways one can automatically get reminders for something like this, ranging from adding an event to a web-based calendar and setting the notification time to a day or two in advance, to using a delayed-resending email service, to setting up the cron daeomon on your web server and setting it to send an email every year on a day of your choice. :)

Happy Birthday, Holy Worlds! (Yes, this is very late, but just got back from a weeks holiday, so hopefully I can be forgiven!) Can't believe how many years we have been here now, excited to see what the future holds!
