It's killing me. @_@ Phantom of the Opera was the best of the three. I really only enjoyed Dracula because I love vampires--and Van Helsing was amazing. XD Frankenstein.... somebody wake me when it's over. >_>

Sorry I missed your comment before, Mistress Kidh. I have not read The Count of Monte Cristo before, but I have heard good things about it from people I did not expect to find interested in classics. I hope to pick it up after the pile of books I need to read for Bible studies and work.
Ah. I wondered if it was a book you liked. I thought it was good, but there was some wild ideology. Have you read it yet?

I love Mansfield Park, I'm glad you're enjoying it now! :D Have you read Northanger Abbey also?

I loved Northanger Abbey! She really should have written more gothic style novels, because I loved it. There's just something about an old fashion spooky suspense novel that is appealing to me. What was your favorite novel by Jane Austen?
I can't tell. It is hard to decide. :D

I just finished The Lantern Bearers by Rosemary Sutcliff. It's a good historical adventure novel.

I have not yet. I haven't been able to do much reading lately. I'm almost finished with Letters to Malcolm, then I have to read a book for school. I'm also reading Love into Light for a Bible study. After that, I really want to to look up Beau Geste. :D

I'm reading Dracula by Bram Stoker, and This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. :D Also Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, but that's been on hold because NaNo, since Peter's for story research.

Well, technically, he read the book and named himself after the character. As long as that will fly with copyright, I'm good. I really hope I don't have to rename him.

I read a book where the cat was named Gandalf. You should be okay.

I'm reading Folktales of Greece. :3

Folktales from Greece named a cat Gandalf?

I just finished reading French Folktales a few months ago. I'd love to read some Greek ones. :D

I have finally started Incidents of the U.S. Christian Commission in earnest. It's incredible. It's about the work that the Commission did for the Union army just after its institution during the Civil War.

I also started one called The True Saint Nicholas. It is short and seems somewhat prone to speculation, given how little solid information there is on the topic, but it may still be interesting.

You should. I'm reading the edition by Georgios a Megas. It's very good.

Colonel Thorndyke's Secret by G. A. Henty
City of Endless Night by Milo Hastings

There are a lot of books I am supposed to be reading too.

I have finished Incidents. Highly recommended. It's on google books, but hard to find in print.

I also finished one called Imaginary Jesus. I think the story was good, but it was too scattered for me to read comfortably.

Now I am in two daily devotions, and reading The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning.

Who wrote "Incidents"? So many books on Google books have "incidents" in the title.

The fully title is Incidents of the U.S. Christian Commission. I abbreviated it from a previous mentioning. I can't recall the name of the man who compiled it. Edward something...

I'm reading through several Cuban memoirs for research. They don't have much vigor and I prefer the Aron Raymond, the other book I'm reading right now, but at least I'm learning from them. I'm also reading a book by Belloc about French poetry. I recently finished The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and it was pretty interesting. I prefer Agnes Grey, though.

I finished The Ragamuffin Gospel. I highly recommend it. After that, I read No Compromise, which is the biography of Keith Green. It was very encouraging and engaging. I highly recommend it and his music. Now I am reading The Autobiography of George Muller which is very challenging in putting feet to your faith.

I'm also going through a three-hundred sixty-five day devotional by Beth Moore called Portraits of Devotion, and another called Sisterhood of Faith. The latter is a bit vague and not particularly deep, but I'm using the bibliography pages to learn more about missionaries that encourage me.

I'm also eager to start Leadership by the Book. My Sunday school leader knows the author, so he got us copies before the launch. ^_^

Sophie was fantastic. she's such a snarky old woman!

I just reread Burnett's The Secret Garden because I had seen clips from the musical and it made me homesick for the story. ;)

And just finished HP, The Chamber of Secrets. Started into Prisoner of Azkaban last night.

And the only reason I am doing any reading at all is because my laptop has been in the shop for two weeks and I can do little else that feels productive at all. XD

One of my friends has lent me a book called The Shunning, by Beverly Lewis; I think I'll take it on holiday with me.

I finished The Autobiography of George Muller. It was very encouraging. I'm now working my way through Job: A Son for Glory. It's fascinating to see the historic and poetic context of the book, and what everything means instead of just seeing it as a fairy-tale-like story.

I have that book and have read it. It's good. :)

I'm hoping to start reading No Other Will Do by Karen Witemeyer soon. I got a complimentary review copy of it and am looking forward to reading it.

I just finished the Bowers Files, a mystery/thriller series by Steven James. It's become one of my favorites in that genre.

I'm gutted, I left it at home by accident. However, they have books here, one of which is Lord of the Rings. :D So I am reading that.

Ugh! Forgetting a book is the worst! :bawl:

I'm currently reading a book called "Mistakes Leaders Make" by Dave Kraft. Quite challenging.

I read A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot, which is the biography of missionary Amy Carmichael, and found it very challenging and inspiring. I loaned it to a friend of mine from Bible study, and she found the language difficult to get into, even though she is well read. I guess I just got used to hanging around the classics. Either way, I highly recommend it.

Now, for the rest of the summer, I have been working my way through Charles Finney's Revival Lectures, on recommendation from Keith Green's biography, funny enough. :D I love it when role models from bygone eras are reading the same books as I am.

I still have about a hundred pages left, then I'm going to read a great one called Eternity in Their Hearts. It's about how every culture has customs that are keys to understanding the Gospel. It's come highly recommended from family and friends, so I'm really looking forward to it. :D

I've read a few of Elizabeth Elliot's books, (These Strange Ashes, Passion and Purity and Through the Gates of Splendour) Rin, and I really like them. I haven't read that one though, so I will have to keep an eye out for it! :)

It is excellent. Amy Carmichael is also a writer. I haven't read any of her biographical works yet, but I'm reading through her poetry book, Toward Jerusalem, and it is so full of the Holy Spirit. It is beautiful.

I'm currently reading a book called "Grand Central." It's a lovely book that contains a bunch of different short stories, all interconnected via Grand Central Station. It is set at the end of World War II.

Honestly, I didn't think I was going to like it simply because it's not your traditional "beginning-middle-end" novel, but I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. My heart breaks a little when one short story finishes. The writer's do such a great job of making you fall in love with their characters in such a short period of time.

I just finished Eternity in Their Hearts. It was short book with some very surprising stories of God's truth scattered and hidden among primitive tribes around the world. It also had some convicting insights on what it means to make disciples of "all nations".

Now I've just begun The Tapestry, the autobiography of Francis and Edith Schaeffer. I've only read the introduction, but the imagery of the tapestry is beautiful. Mrs. Schaeffer uses it to describe how God's plans are certain, but not rigid, as each person and time of life becomes a thread, woven into His glorious design, influencing all of the others in ways they cannot even imagine.

It is a lengthy book, but I look forward to spending time with it.

Just finished Secrets Kept by JL Mbewe and am letting that process a bit before moving on to #2. In the meantime I am reading The Poisoner's Handbook. It's fascinating though I skim through the occasional, slightly too graphic, details.

Aah, I love The Scarlet Pimpernel, such a good book!

Mother has given me a book called 'The Girl on the Train', so I am going to start that this week. Anyone else read/reading it? It's a fairly new release, I believe.

I took a break from The Tapestry because I picked up a copy of The Cross and the Switchblade.

*low whistle*

It almost had me crying at points, and the ending was a huge encouragement during a rather difficult point. I'm hoping to get a chance to read it to some of my students soon.

I don't know if the book is new, but a movie just came out based on it, so that's why there's a flurry of interest. :) How was it? I didn't get to see the movie while it was in theaters, but it looked good.

I should read all the way to the end of the thread before asking questions, I guess, just in case people finished the book while I wasn't paying attention and posted about it. ;)

I'm beta-reading a good fantasy novel for someone, but of course it's not out yet 'cause I'm not done editing yet. But I also took the plunge and am reading my first Neil Gaiman book, The Graveyard Book. :D It's quaint and lovely so far.
