So I thought I had my novel title figured out, until a friend pointed out a couple of synonyms that also made for good titles. So, which of these titles do you prefer, and why? You may not have much reason; if one of them simply seems to flow better, that's good enough.

Tears of Fury

Tears of Rage

Tears of Wrath

If a few people respond, I'll post my thoughts on the titles and what I'm leaning toward (or against). I want to get some opinions on this, though.

If you think they all make for terrible titles, on the other hand, then say so. Suggestions that alter on the theme are welcome, but the title does have significance to the story, so keep that in mind.

Also, and this is totally optional, what impression would you get of a book if you saw it with one of the titles above?

I think the contrast in Tears of Wrath is really good. I never think of tears and wrath as combined, so it really gets me thinking.

Tears of Wrath!

Have you officially named it yet? How's it coming?

And I was thinking Tears of Fury. Sometime I have trouble pronouncing wrath.

Maybe you've got this all figured out by now but.... Just thought I'd throw something in here anyways. ;)

My initial thought would be Tears of Wrath as well, I like the way the words fit a little better.

That said, I'd say it also depends on what you're trying to get across.

For me, both Rage and Wrath would make me think of "blind anger". Just a hateful, extreme anger. Fury on the other hand, would make me think of a frustrated, sad, vengeful anger.

That probably doesn't make sense from a definition standpoint, it's just what comes to mind. :)

Nah, those are some good thoughts. How we interpret words when we see them is often more important than the word's actual definition. There's a name for it, but I can't remember right now.

Tears of Wrath reminds me immediately of Grapes of Wrath. I guess that may be good or bad depending on whether you want that connotation. I think of itself it sounds nicest, though. The other ones don't "slip" from my mouth as well.

See, I tend to focus a little too much on how well the words roll off my tongue. But I still think that's a decent reason to name the book Tears of Wrath, as long as it's not too far from the storyline. :)

How odd. "Rage" and "fury" to me both lean toward "blind anger," while "wrath" to me carries a definite connotation of deliberate anger; the difference to my "ear" between "rage" and "fury" is that the latter is perhaps stronger. (Context can make any of them go entirely the other way, of course.)
