((Ooh, look at me, two new threads on the same day. Wow. XD ))

I'm gonna make this really short: I have a free trial of Scrivener software and have been attempting to go through the tutorial so I can decide whether or not I want to purchase the software outright and begin using it regularly. I'm thoroughly fed up with my OpenOffice and Word isn't looking too promising at the moment either.

So. My question: to anyone who has Scrivener and maybe knows its ins-and-outs better, are there any pointers you can give on its basic functions? Like, just writing a project on it without worrying about all these extra files and notes and stuff (which are awesome, but I'd be using them as secondary, rather than primary, functions, and the tutorial is all excited about teaching me their every nuance. XD )

If so, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks!

I have minimally used Scrivener, with the exact kind of intent you had. All that stuff for storing research and such truck is neat, but I am frankly not that hardcore of a writer yet. I find it is helpful for being able to store scenes and chapters separately while in the same program (as opposed to have to have a ton of Word Docs open or something silly like that). While it can make drafting seem a bit more complex (all those note-cards and synopses and stuff) it makes revising about FORTY-THOUSAND times easier in my opinion, since you have everything labeled and linked and such.

In short, it's really easy and probably worthwhile to draft in Scrivener. Whenever you get around to revising, it'll probably be your best friend.
