I have a character in my WIP who has an, as yet, unspecified medical condition. The doctors told his parents that he had a high chance of getting this disease and when he was about 6, he did. He was in and out of the hospital, but it is slowly, but surely getting better with whatever treatment the doctors are giving him.

My question is, does anybody know of any diseases that might fit this? Or at least a way or place to research it? If I need to, I can change it some, but it would be great if the plot I described would stay pretty much the same.

Thanks!

How serious of a disease are you thinking? Something life-threatening or just inhibiting?

Just inhibiting, not life-threatening.

Um...a broken leg? Okay, well, you can probably tell my medical knowledge is basically nil. I was thinking something like diabetes or asthma or cerebral palsy? Better ask the experts, though :P

It needs to be more than a broken leg, but curable (eventually) unlike cerebral palsy.

Myalgic Encepholomyelitis(M.E) comes to mind. It's an illness where the person suffers from deep fatigue. Children can get it, some people don't ever fully recover from it, but you can recover - it all depends. I don't know much about it, my Mother's friend has it. I looked online and it said children can get it. I don't know if you could use that though, but thought I'd throw it out there. :)

Katharina, have you decided on something? If not, our resident medical experts, Grace and I think NotThatShort, might be able to help.

I completely forgot this thread was even here. I have actually set this book aside for now. Once I pick it up again, I'll work on this a little more. Thanks for the suggestion!
