World War II also saw the rise of women helping with the war effort. World War II saw more women (in Britain) serving with the armed forced; they were not drafted into combat units, but could volunteer for combat duty in anti-aircraft units. In America there were over 60,000 army nurses serving overseas and at home.

Many women served in the resistance in France, Italy, Poland and the British SOE.

How do you think women impacted the war? Which part of their work in the war would you like to show in your writing? Do you have any interesting facts to add?

I think this war changed the outlook women had on their selves, more than anything. And not necessarily for the better.

Ok; why not for the better, and in what way do you think their views changed?

Well, I think this period in time made an open door for feminism. Think of Rosie the Riveter, an iconic symbol for this time in history. She represented the American women who worked in factories during World War II. These women replaced the male workers who were in the military.

That doesn't bother me. Women took care of the things that needed to be cared for. However, when the men returned, women didn't want to give them their role back. They liked this new form of "freedom", which was a crock. Their mindset had changed. Raising children and running all the things they had before, was no longer important. They needed to be doing what the men were doing in order to be influential, they thought. Which sickens me (in a painful, not disgusted, way). They bought into a lie, and it has had devastating results on our culture. What more influential job could a woman have, other than raising up the next generation? They (mothers and fathers) directly control what kind of culture rolls in behind their era.

Women decided working in factories and having a “job” (never mind the fact that being a wife and mother is a 24/7 job that requires more work, time, and effort) was more important than the next generation. And we see its effects on society today.

The entire mindset changed after the Second World War.

As a side note, Rosie the Riveter is commonly used as a symbol of feminism and women's economic power now.

*Nods* I think things went a bit too far. After the first world war women were then able to vote, which I think was a positive change; but I completely see where you're coming from with these thoughts.

The second world war did a lot of damage across the board.

Was there as big of a feministic turn in Brittan, like in America?

Yes, I definitely think so, they had had their taste of what it was like you see, to live and almost run their own lives. I suppose once things had happened, them running factories, working, teaching and so on, many didn't want to go back to what their life had been before.

*takes a deep breath *

Yes... I know something about that. See, when we were living in the Ronald McDonald House, and my parents were up with Samuel all the time, I was in charge of everything. My life, the baby, the boys. I could decide what we were going to do and when. I made the decisions, I ran things.

And I liked it.

Then, 5 months later, my parents were ready to start taking back over things (as was their right, their kids, their house). I was not. I struggled for months to readjust to the role of daughter and older sister. Had I not wanted to be obedient and cause as little stress as possible... Let's just say I understand how easy it was for those women not to want to go back to their roles.

*Nods* Yes, I can understand that sort of feeling, in some ways, as well.
