I've almost finished the first book and currently have mixed feelings about it, but I'm now fascinated after reading the acknowledgments. It says something along the lines of "Thank you, God, for sending your son and for blessing me so very much.
"Thanks to (Agent's name) for being such a ****** agent, and working harder than anyone else..."
Now I'm going to look closely at this series and see how it matches my mindset of a 'Christian Series'.
I'm curious as to see your thoughts on the series or the fact that a Christian is writing it.

Ugh. I just finished this book a few days ago. I was really excited to read it because I'd had a number of friends tell me it was "The Hunger Games but better."

It was NOT The Hunger Games and it certainly wasn't better. The writing was rushed, choppy, and inconsistent. The incompetency in her writing style led to issues with characterization and an oversimplification of tough subjects like depression, suicide, and abuse. She portrayed them very one-dimensionaly. Her romance was based solely on "you woman, me man" type of thing and was very physical more than anything. By the end of the book I still had no idea what being Divergent was and why it was important. There wasn't really a plot until about 90% of the way through the book.

So basically I do not recommend it. I was bummed because I was excited to read it, and I felt like Roth didn't write responsibly.

I did notice that she was a Christian though, which is cool. :)

I've heard very good things about this, but haven't read it yet. I guess I'll keep it in mind.

I've heard a lot about this book. Maybe I'll read it :)

I've also been hearing a lot about this recently. I should see if they have it at the library.

After finding out about the ending, I probably won't read the books at all now. I won't spend time or money buying the books, and reading through a trilogy that doesn't have a fulfilling ending!

Haven't reached the ending yet, but I'm halfway through the last book, and I've really enjoyed them. I think they are worth reading for the worldview. It's so interesting to see all the different traits that would seem to make up a "perfect" human stressed to the point where it becomes an entire subsection of people. There were a lot of Christian parallels in it too, that I really appreciated. I'll drop back in here once I'm finished the last book to report on what I thought.

Ok, I'll be interested in hearing what you thought of it. :)

I actually quite enjoyed the books, all three. I could pretty much see the ending coming, and I must say, I didn't mind it. I thought it wrapped the series up really well, and I felt a lot lighter for having read it than I did the Hunger Games. I thought it was well worth the read, although the romantic side of things with all the kissing and cuddling kinda got a bit over the top in places. :P That would be my only drawback to them.

I finished reading the series a week or so ago (that includes "Four" as well). To be honest, I have mixed emotions about it. The first book in the series was great, but then I got to book two and...ugh. I didn't like it at all. It was the way she took Tris's character into a hot mess.

After reading "Four", I must say, I wish she would have written the book from his perspective. There was a lot more detail to his story that gave it meaning, and you don't get that from Tris's perspective. (That's not to say I don't like Tris, because I do).
