Here is a basic summary of the weaponry of my two most developed countries, Narunin and Rahaneen, in my fictional world. Please feel free to ask questions and critique!

Narunin- The weapons of Narunin are simple and lovely and sharp. It is considered a shame to have one’s sword dull in either shine or blade. Although the Narunum (the people of Narunin) dislike discussing fighting, killing, or death, they know how to kill “properly”- as quickly and painlessly as possible. The most common weapons (in order of popularity) are bows, short or long swords, and daggers. Axes are used for capital punishment. Decorations on weapons are often small vine patterns or celtic knots. Leather is well used in armor, sheaths, belts, etc. Consequently the usual colors of a weapon are red and silver.

A Narunine dagger set.
This would be a complete battle gear of a Narunum. Although generally they wear chain - not plate - mail.

Rahaneen- The weapons of Rahaneen are elaborate and elegant. A weapon is considered pointless if it does not make you look impressive. Both long, drawn-out tortured deaths and fast kill-the-multitudes deaths are acceptable here, so that does not affect the weapon choice. Instead, the Rashim (the people of Rahaneen) have invented various versions to traditional weapons to make them more interesting. For instance, arrows are given different tips or strange shaped shafts to make them more challenging to aim with and consequently more impressive if one does hit the target. They have invented a quarter-staff like weapon that is basically one long double-edged sword or two one-edged swords joined together that has a grip in the middle. It is used by arm and wrist action similar to twirling a baton. Another invention of theirs is the four-edged sword. Popular weapons are rapiers, double knives, javelins and other throwing weapons. Axes, hammers, and other large heavier weapons are almost never used, being deemed un-elegant and crude. Decorations on their weapons are large intricate vine patterns or historical scenes from Rahaneen’s past. Colors used are black, gold, and white.

It's interesting that they dislike talking about death, and yet go to lengths to have neat and beautiful weapons, which is usually a sign of pride. I like that enigma.

Since they use Celtic knots as decoration, do they have any Celtic influence? Or is it just that the patterns resemble Celtic knots and there's no connection?

You mentioned that axes are used for capital punishment. This obviously means that they do execute for punishment. Do they do it very much, or only for great crimes? How does this fit in with their dislike of talking about killing people?

Fascinating. I like that. It reminds me of how a lot of the martial arts became more oriented towards being a sport over time.

I like the weapons the Rashim use. They certainly give the impression of being elaborate. It seems interesting to me that the main colors are black, gold, and white, though, rather than true colours. Are their patterns bold, or more fine?

Thank you for commenting! There's really no Celtic connection between the Narunum and the Celts, being that they exist in a totally different world, but their artistic style is partially based off the Celts.

No, the Narunum dislike capital punishment, but they do understand the need for it. Therefore they use it mainly for crimes like murder and great acts of treachery. There are probably a few other crimes "worth the axe," as they would say.

Patterns in Rashimse (pertaining to the Rashim) weaponry are very intricate and detailed.

Right, that's what I guessed.

Beautiful. Are the patterns of their weaponry at all similar in style to other kinds of art that they do? * curious *

Is there any contrast between the colors and such they use in their clothing as opposed to their weaponry and armor?

Hmm... Yes, it probably would be similar. Most of their artwork is probably embroidered tapestries that would have similar intricate designs and portray mythical and historical scenes.

Their clothing usually has more colors than their armor and weaponry. Commonly used colors would be red, dark blue, purple, emerald green, etc. - a good deal of rich, royal colors.

Thanks for all your questions! They are helping me learn more about the Rasheem and their culture. :D

Thanks! Elegant? Yes, I suppose they are. They use a lot of style and flair in their swordplay. :)

That's cool :) I personally prefer style in that sort of thing, so I guess I'm one of them. ;)
