I admit it. I don't read much at all. :bawl: It's not because I think reading is stupid or boring. I honestly have difficulty with retention of what I read, possibly because my mind can begin thinking creatively when I am reading. So, I wanted to bring this before the population of HW and see if anyone else deals with this dilemma, and what reading habits you have that might help (highlight passages, take notes, etc...). I welcome any and all advice and counsel.

I love reading. Once in a while I'll get distracted and have to reread a passage, but I'm a detail person, so I remember the small things that might tie in later. Part of what helps in understanding the essence overall though, is to analyze the story to find out what it's theme and meaning are. And not just a vague theme of the battle of good versus evil or something, stories always have a specific lesson and a specific action or way of thinking that leads to their form of redemption, so if you know the steps to analyzing a story, it's easier to remember the details of the story.

I have loved reading all my life. :D When I read a novel I can read the content once, but I tend to read and absorb quickly, sometimes too quickly, and have to re-read parts.

When I pick up a book and I read dive into it; I read feverishly. I'm not lying when I say that I have aided in giving myself lowgrade fevers from sitting in my room and reading a book for 9 hours straight. (Only taking breaks to eat and use the bathroom). It's very uncomfortable...I get all muzzy-headed when I do that. :P

I am rigid in personality, so dog-earring or marking in a book is like crossing forbidden territory. The only book I mark or dog-ear pages is the Bible. That's meant to be marked! :D

I also have specific sitting habits when I read (like most people do).

I love reading, I could devour a good novel in a couple of days when I was younger. However I find it harder to read nowadays. I tell myself it's because I have so much going on, and little time to read, but I also think I find my attention wanders far more, and I think as you grow older you do get busier with work and responsibility, and you have less time for all the hobbies that you used to pursue.

I have been making time for more reading recently though, as I keep having it pushed on me that the more you read, the better your writing will be. :D So I've been trying to focus on reading a little every night, making a list to work through and concentrating on giving a little time to reading.

I mark my bible as well, but I never make notes in books. I use a bookmark to keep my page, and that's it.

I used to read through books in practically a day. Didn't even use a bookmark. Now...I rarely get time to read, so I have to use a bookmark or else I forget where I was. :/
