Hook or Logline (depending on if you are Philli and Jenni):

Perspiration dropped heavily from an old man’s brow as he bolted shut the door to a stone tower, the lock clanking unnecessarily loud to his heightened senses. He fastened the barred windows so that no one outside his room could see the light he lit when all seemed safe. No one must be drawn there, time was of the essence.

That was a hook. A logline is a one-sentence summary of the entire book. That was not a one-sentence summary of the entire book. ;)

Raven, I like the title “The Masked Bird”… fits the logline well.

Then you can tell Jenni she is telling people the wrong definition. ;)

All right, where is that girl? ;)

I want a copy of Airianna's book too! *little sister eyes* Ahem. ;)

Anywho, here is my "list".

Need a Non-Spoiler Title :P
Genre/Type: Spy-fi, short story
Word count: 2432
Stage: Drafted, needs more editing
Summary: A girl named Shawn and her big brother are at the Indianapolis State Fair, but Jay seems edgy. When they are kidnapped, can Jay protect his little sister? What secrets are he hiding?
Note: This story has the "pre-characters" of my MCs in Shattering the Dark, and the storyline my be worked into it at some point. This is also this only story I planned out ahead of time...

Shattering The Dark:
Genre/Type: Spy-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, novel(?)
Stage: Dreaming/Random scenes, minor drafting
Summary: Shawn's parent's have died before the story starts. (I'm not entirely sure of this...) She and her older brother live in a town named _ with their "Aunt" (think foster care). They are good friends with the Lewis family. Kurt Henderson and Josh Lewis are drafted/volunteer for the war in Vietnam. Kurt dies or goes MIA (I'm playing with this idea...), and Josh probably dies too. :? Shawn's "Aunt" decides she can't continue supporting Shawn and she ends up in some orphanage in another small town. Several years later, Jay Lewis is an analyst at the NSA or some "spy" agency, and he and Shawn run into each other during one of his cases. They eventually get married and have all these adventures involving agency work. I'm not sure how it ends...

A Slave's Song
Genre/Type: Fantasy, novel(?)
Stage: Chapter 3
Summary: Dani has been a slave her whole life, knowing only misery, fear, and distrust. Her only family member left has been ripped from her life, and she makes the decision to escape. She discovers the world, beautiful and ugly. But can she accept that she isn't gifted like her people? And when she is swept into a battle, between truth and false hood, what will she choose? Can she really be free by running,. or will she remain a slave to something other than iron chains and whips?

That sounds neat, Shawn! I actually kind of like the title "Need a Non-Spoiler Title." It doesn't work for your book, but it's still funny.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

My book in progress at the moment is an Elizabethan mystery novel. I've written about 15 chapters and am hoping to write more soon but am having a break off writing whilst my exams are past. I haven't come up with a title for it yet :)

Since joining Holyworlds I have started a fantasy novel but I'm not sure where its going yet :) I've not written much just a few parts.

I hope! I hate to think I'll write something that will never be published! I keep it in prayer at the moment though and just carry on writing and enjoying it!

My curent projects are:

Short story:
Title: Untitled
A twist to the whole hero fighting evil ugly monster. But in this we find out that the ugly monsters may not be as "monstrous" as we thought. (This is my first try at "mad narrator" type writing.
I've got about half of it finished.

Short story:
Title: West of Everywhere
Fantasy/Western with dragons instead of horses.
Still in planning stage on this one.

Also by brain child epic

Four books as of now.
Title: Still not titled
Follows the life of man starting with his birth going to his death as he takes part in the dreadful plight the kingdoms in with its mad ruler. He must decide whether or not to take control and be a leader or just sink into the shadows and let things take their course.
I may finish this by the time I'm sixty maybe....

(Also I'm working on a first person account of a Post-apocalyptic story that is more fantasy/medieval than most. But I guess it doesn't count as a fantasy.)

Thank you for reviving this, Balec. :D (Hmm... several of these lists are outdated.)

Where to begin? :P Well, since it's a very good place to start... ;)

The Origin of Dark Island
Genre: Fan-fiction.
Progress: A little over a chapter or two.
Synopsis: Narnia fan-fiction chronicling the elimination of the last major remnant of the White Witch's forces and revealing the origin of Dark Island.
Miscellanea: A short story. My one project from my early days that I love enough that I might be persuaded to keep. xD

Captured
Genre: Fantasy.
Progress: 200-ish words. xD
Synopsis: A cantankerous gnome is captured by a collector of fantasy creatures and must outwit the seemingly omnipotent genie-guard in order to escape. (I have no idea where the logline I did for this is, but I wonder if this turned out to be better than my old one. xD)
Miscellanea: This will be nothing more than a short story if I ever get around to finishing it. Inspiration comes from one of Kaitlyn's drawings. Extremely low on my priority list.

Untitled (I think I had a title, but I forgot it.)
Genre: Historical Fiction.
Progress: Half-ish-way through a first draft.
Miscellanea: A Robin-Hood short story, told from the point of view of another noble similar to Robin's standings who struggles with deciding where to place his loyalties. The only reason this is still on my to-complete list is because I promised Zoe I wouldn't waste the trouble she went through to give me advice and bits of her research.

Nomad of the Stars
Genre: Science Fiction
[Err... I don't remember where I put my stuff for Nomad. I'll come back when I find it. xD]
Miscellania: Yes, I do intend to write something longer than a short story. xD

Last of the Pegasi
Genre: Fantasy Poetry
Logline: When a creature long thought extinct reappears in the woods surrounding his village, a bitter tanner sets out to avenge himself on the race that killed his father. (I need to modify this outline...)
Progress: A couple stanzas, and a lot of time spent plotting, planning, head/desking, despairing, discussing, ranting, and twitching.
Miscellanea: I fully intend to master this thing someday. My plan is to write the story in alliterative verse. Currently on hold.

The Enemy's Weapon
Genre: Fantasy
Progress: I'm three or four drafts into it. Holds the honor of being the story that I've come closest to completion with.
Synopsis: A pair of guardians stumble upon a powerful relic of past war against their Enemy and split up in an effort to destroy. But the one who stays behind to guard the artifact is not strong enough to fight the silent, siren's call...
Miscellanea: Short story written for one of HW's contests.

World United
Genre: Science Fiction
Progress: A prologue and a fair amount of [insert Last of the Pegasi remarks].
Logline: After a traitor to the communistic government bequeaths him a high-ranking position in the government, a brainwashed working-classman discovers corruption in his government and must expose the truth before they dispose of him.
Miscellanea: My second biggest WIP. Won't stop bugging me in one way or another.

Portals of Prophecy
Genre: Fantasy
Progress: One or two half-baked snippets, and a ton of mental gymnastics. Might end up rivaling Last of the Pegasi in [insert remarks].
Logline: A fearful teenager must fulfill a prophecy to overcome a malevolent force bent on ensnaring a fantasy world or lose his best friends to evil fates he set in motion. (This logline is constantly be tweaked. Here is the simplistic version I am currently using.)
Miscellanea: My biggest WIP. Won't stop bugging me in one way or another. Has a secondary-character that I have a hard time restraining myself from slapping.

I probably have one or two more, but that is most of them -- and all the major ones.

Sure. Just say they're in the planning stage. That's still progress. :D

I should probably redo/update my list here at some point...

I rarely talk about the stories I write, and sometimes you might get lucky and catch me in chat when I need a partner for brainstorming. But....I suppose I should let you guys in on some of the stuff I've been working on.

Hmm...let's see.

Currently Uncompleted:

1)Title: Despised and Forgotten.
Details: The first book of the trilogy called the Sean Madden Plays. Novel-length.
Word Count: 5,304
Summary: A runaway is given a part in a play that sucks its actors into another world with a problem of sorts. The mission of the actors (but actually trained fighters) is to fix the problem and return to Earth.

-shameface- Actually...I haven't worked on this story in quite a few months and forgot what the particular problem was. Oops...I'll have to get back to you on that one.

2)Title: Monster and Rose
Details: Not attached to any trilogy or series. Novel-length. Based on the story Beauty and the Beast (my favorite fairytale.)
Word Count: 1,387 (Still mostly in the research/planning stage).
Summary: A girl is haunted by nightmares. She has the mark of the rose next to her right eye. Little does she know she is the prophesied child in a legend so old, only one thing knows it: the monster. (And this is about as far as I got in planning...I still have to tie up a proper plot.)

3)Title: Cyclone
Details: Haven't decided if this is a stand-alone novel or part of a series. Novel-length.
Word Cout: 6,030
Summary: She is a Dragayne. He is a Windorian. Their races were enemies as long as any could remember. The Windorians had wiped out her people. The creatures within the Windorian's cyclones (basically tornadoes that acted as prison cells) were escaping and ravaging the world. A curse is upon the Windorians and they are corrupt--only if the Dragayne girl and the Windorian man work together will both worlds--hidden and seen--be saved.

4)Title: Hunt of the Bonded Dragon
Details: Stand-alone book. Novel-length. Just started writing it in November--one of those write-in-your-spare-time-between-projects books.
Word Count: 1,133
Summary: There is a strange story that remains unexplained, a legend. This legend tell of a strange girl and the dragon. The ferocious dragon faces the girl in battle. But, as the legend goes, both suddenly disappear--never to be heard of from again. A hundred years pass, and the girl shows up again. She is taken in by a group of nobodies, who suspect she has amnesia. Little do they know that the dragon will soon follow, and if she fails to defeat it--she and the dragon will disappear and a kindgom will be burned. So far, she has failed. This time, she has to succeed if she wants to save her friends--the first friends she has had in the past nine hundred years.

5)Title: Space and Time
Details: First book in the Space and Time trilogy. Novel-length. Temporarily at a stop due to lack of knowledge in the sci-fi side of novelling.
Word count: 7,885
Summary: A strange girl with a bomb wired into her body. She is Time. One year until it detonates. Though she can bend time, she cannot stop this bomb's timer. Not until the man appears in her dreams, with a solution, and not until Time is again reunited with her twin sister, Space. For, if this bomb goes off, it will destroy the entire universe.

6)Title: Unicorn (working title)
Details: Haven't decided if it's going to be a stand-alone novel or part of a trilogy. Full-length novel.
Word count: 10,088
Summary: A girl is hunted for her unicorn blood, which can open a portal to the heart of magic. A faerie-man, wedded to the girl against her will on an agreement with her father, swears he will keep her safe. The faerie's friend, a wolf-man, is the messenger and spy that brings information on the evil's whereabouts. Together, the wolf and faerie must keep the girl from evil's grasp until the blazing moon is gone and she again returns to her human form.

And, finally....

7)Title: Hidden in Water (working title)
Details: Third book in the Hearts trilogy. Full-length novel. Hopefully will be publishing the trilogy before August.
Word count: 0--actually, I'm supposed to be writing this right now for JanNoWriMo (but procrastination is getting in the way, and, with publishing looming, I probably shouldn't be doing that...)
Summary: Children of the magical heart (a being that protects the life-force of the world) go on a mission to find the unknown region which holds the last heart. If they do not find this last heart in time, the world will end and be turned into a living hell. Only if the hearts are united will their power be great enough to stop the evil.

And those are the novels I am currently writing. A lot of them tend to be, well, those that I do in my spare-time between WriMos. This list doesn't even include the half-dozen plus books that I'm planning right now or the 7 other books that I've finished and need to revise/edit.

-shakes head- Sometimes I think I bite off too much. Something to think about...

God Bless,
-Donn Q.

I've completed so little that just about everything is in a "work in progress" state. But I'll limit my list here to a few of the main ones. :)

Everything I write falls somewhere within my "Shine Cycle," a quite lengthy and complicated history. I'm trying to methodically work my way through the whole thing at a very high level, developing a slightly-more-detailed outline, then repeat at that level ... and I'm currently working on a series of "précis" of the novels/stories I'm planning, which I post on my blog ... but these are the ones I'm most actively (which isn't saying much ...) working on right now.

The Invasion: This is the first in a "sub-series" set on Earth in the fairly far future (starting in 2185 or so), which I've called "the Game of Life sub-series" so long I can't think of a better name even though the stories no longer refer to that imaginary game. Earth scientists have used genetic engineering to produce human beings who match the traditional descriptions of werewolves. One of the series' main villains arrives on Earth and steals this research, produces an army (largely composed) of werewolves, and tries to conquer Earth; he is quickly followed by a few others to oppose him, but the burden still falls largely on the natives. The POV character and protagonist is Miss Alice Hansen, a no-longer-quite-young woman who's a SCA (or equivalent) enthusiast, a linguist, and since the story began an apprentice mage.

An Internal Conflict, working subtitle "The Second Time Around": Persephone Royal coasted through her early life and her education, until unprecedented disaster struck her homeland; after she comes to the awful realization that "it's all her fault," her anguished prayer for another chance is granted, and she finds herself living her life over again.

And a currently untitled one, previously titled "A Murder, a Mystery, and a Marriage" (because I originally wrote it for a class assignment after reading the then-recently-discovered Mark Twain story of the same name, having been given requirements only to include those three elements and be no longer than twenty pages---an explanation I'd rather not have to give :)): A famous detective (whose identity is deliberately not explicitly stated until the last lines, but hinted at throughout), transplanted from Victorian London to the Shine and Wild Empire (the country with which the Shine Cycle is primarily concerned) some years back, is hired to find some missing documents in advance of the prince's wedding, but finds that he is the only one who can thwart an unseen assassin.

A Mighty Fortress (Historical Fiction/Western): Currently being revised and edited. Logline: After their stagecoach is attacked by outlaws, an adventurous young man and his timid sister are forced to find their way to a town through barely populated territory while being pursued by one of the murderous outlaws with problems of his own. Revision and editing will hopefully be done by May 2013.

Untitled Mystery (Contemporary Fiction): I just started writing this one today after creating the characters in the 30 characters in 30 days challenge. I expect this one to be a short story. Summary: A young private investigator is called by a frantic father. His four-year-old daughter disappeared during the night. He has been following news stories and knows that his daughter is the eighth girl between the ages of 4 and 9 to disappear in the last 7 or 8 years. He believes the cases to be related. Leah McDurmid is determined to do all she can to find the missing girls. But will she be able to find all the clues needed or will those closest to her try to put a stop to her investigation? Who is behind the sinister disappearances and why?

I thought about posting here, and I thought, "gosh, do I really want to try? Then I'll be committed to actually finishing all these things instead of thinking about finishing them." Ah, well, here's a try:

Bonesword
Progress: My word count is minimal. The outline and characters and settings are highly developed and merely await being worded. When I feel like it.
Commitment: Honestly, this is probably the only book I am committed to eventually finishing.
Thingy: Rather than summarizing here, y'all can use the search engine (try "Bonesword" and look up what I've already said about in the Forge.

Dragonmark
Progress: In my mind...
Commitment: I'm rather attached to this book/trilogy/ilogy-ish-thing, but I feel no particular obligation to finish it. It's probably better in my head anyway...
Blurb: This story was really inspired by the mythological Norse tale of Loki's fall from mischief to wickedness and how this lead to the destruction of heaven. Hurion has been redeemed, but his increase pride drives away his wayward apprentice Baan, who attempts to murder his master and is therefore banished from the realms of the North Kings. Years later, another apprentice of Hurion's is banished from the North after he defends the Huri, who the Northerners believe to be demon-spawn. Untrained in the use of the Dragonmark, Folen teaches himself while journeying through the wider world, but discovers that Baan is at work, expanding his arcane powers and preparing an army to conquer the North.

Tears of Stars
Progress: mental
Commitment: none, really
Blab: As nuclear holocaust decimates the planets of mankind, one man take up the search for his long lost daughter as civilization violently tears itself apart.

I'm sure there's more, but they're not really in the stage where they are likely to ever exist outside of my head. Really, they are quite happy there and I enjoy them almost as much as reading someone else's story. Almost.

In that case:

The Stranger's Gift (editing)
What Waits in Shadow (editing)
The Crystal Orb (writing)

These are all short stories. Disclaimer: that was kinda redundant, since they're all listed in my signature. :)

I think originally, loglines were supposed to be posted too, to give other HWers a sense of what it is, but I didn't do that... *shrugs*

*Points Renny to other page* I didn't... I think its okay to post them.

I have decided that near the beginning of each month, I will edit my list, but if major changes occur in my WiP list, I'll just post a new one.

Ya'll make me look lazy. o.O

1. The Last Tower (Rapunzel rewrite) - Light Fantasy - Editing
Novella-ish-thingy? I think it's 50-something pages. Not sure.

2. The Rebel - Science Fiction - Freewriting/plotting
Probably be a full-length novel. Somewhere around 30+ pages of random disconnected scenes and developmental notes.

Ain't got much to show for my work...

Birthright
progress: three chapter drafts. A world under construction.
Tanner Grayson is thrust into another world where he learns (primarily) the gifts and responsibilities of his family.

Heritage ( sequel)
progress: one chapter and some character development.
Eryn discovers that her long lost father is alive and joins him in a new world to discover an even greater heritage.

Legacy (third in series)
progress: well, I found a name for it.
I have very little in the line of plot here.

After writing the first chapter of Birthright I somehow knew it would be a trilogy.

I'm revising this.

(nameless)
Idea stage
A young girl who is in touch with legendary things is brought into the court of a Sultan for her extraordinary abilities.

We Were Prepared
Idea stage
The zombie apocalypse everyone expected finally arrived, but no one ever expected the undead to speak so convincingly.

Crusoe's Star
Idea stage
A starship captain is abandoned to an escape pod and crashes on an unknown planet where he must learn to survive.

(Seven Arts Story)
World building
An adventure of a stuffed ratel. I haven't discovered the plot yet.

(Tattoo Story)
Vague idea stage
Here, tattoos are natural marks that indicate intimacy. Not much plot yet either.

(Dracula Fainfic Sequel)
Plotting stage
After reading his family's old journals, young Quincy Harker is determined to help those who have been victimized but the supernatural.

And another update...

Quicksilver

A modern fantasy about an outcast shape-shifter and his elf friend who are set upon by occult alchemists.

No fanfictions, no semi-fanfictions, or fan continuations will be included in this list. Only completely original works

*Working titles

Real-world/Alternate-world fiction

The Last Six on Earth: Small elements of thriller/suspense. But hopefully, not too much. I once, on a whim, wrote a horror/creepy thing and freaked myself out when I was twelve An idea I got in my head one day and couldn't get out. Only six people are alive on the planet - hunted by a mysterious assassin. No one living knows who he is, or why he is chasing them. All they know is that he wants them dead. Development stage, mostly due to the fact that I know the full ending, and still have to resolve a major plot point

CSIS project: Based off of the real-life civilian agency, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

Real-world sci-fi

Epsilon Force: An agency established to deal with extraterrestrials and mysterious unexplained occurrences. Now that I think about it, it's sort of like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
