Ok, I'm at the end of my rope. What happened to Philosophy? Last time I checked, Philosophy meant love of wisdom not love of being disrespectful know it all's. I used to think it was all just Atheist philosophers but I just watched some stuff on this William Lane Craig guy, he's a "Christian" and I use that term loosely as he does not behave very Christian.

This is why I can't stand "Debate." It brings the worst out of people. I used to count myself as a Philosopher, a lover of wisdom. But I don't know anymore... Maybe we need a new word.

Just had to get that off my chest. I'd love to read the opinions of some of my fellow Holy Worlders!

I suspect that problems arise because philosophy rarely lives up to its ideal. James 3:13 says, "Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom."

James also tells us to avoid the "wisdom" that "is earthly, unspiritual, demonic" (James 3:15). The world does not see wisdom as the Bible reveals it truly is, and even Christians sometimes allow that distortion to affect them.

To be truly wise, we need the wisdom from above that "is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere" (James 3:17).

Thank you, You have no idea what that meant to me. Especially that last verse.

I sort of know where you're coming from. I've been in not very pleasant debates with people who get heated and where tempers have flared. I tend to prefer the term "discussion" over "debate" now, as "debate" signifies a right and wrong side to the argument.

Like Jonathan said, earthly wisdom isn't wisdom. My pastor once commented on worldly wisdom as people who "are learning more and more about less and less". If you have learnt how to treat your fellow man with love and respect even if your opinions differ, then I believe you can count yourself wiser than most. :)
