Weekly challenge: write a minimum 1000 word short story/scene in which you turn a fairy tale on its head. You poor people. Your quests often stem from what I've been listening to/reading/watching or what I want to do myself. Feel free to let your creativity run wild! Any fairy tales are fair game, whether they're popular or not.

Surprise challenge: Submit three entries to the writing contest at the birthday party Friday-Saturday. I won't tell you now what the contest is, but I can reassure you that it won't be hard to submit three entries.

As always...

The Rules wrote:
1. All challenges must be declared completed by midnight Saturday in your timezone (please specify your timezone when you sign up).
2. All challenges (personal or weekly) must be declared by midnight Monday in your timezone.
3. Personal challenges cannot be repeated.
4. The organizer reserves the right to veto any challenges that seem too simple. (i.e. writing a sentence)

If this is your first time on one of these quests, you'll need to see the initiation pamphlet.

Also, I would like to remind everyone that any weekly challenge pieces that are posted on the forum will be eligible to be featured in our newsletter. Please post a link in this thread if you would like it to be considered.

If you could write your sign-up post in a similar format to the following, it would be appreciated:
Goal: weekly challenge (or whatever you decide to do)
Timezone: PDT

Slay that dragon!

Katharina: You can go ahead and write them and just not submit them. I'll still give you the points. :)

Blayne: Would examples help? I could rewrite Beauty and the Beast, but the Beast wouldn't return to human form at the end. Or I could write Cinderella from the point of view of a stepsister (who isn't bad after all). Or I could rewrite Sleeping Beauty so that the prince that kisses her is the grandson of a prince she hated before her nap. I'm using common fairy tales as examples, but you can use any fairy tale. Does that help?

I haven't seen Tangled, so I can't say for sure. I think so, though.

Surprise challenge finished. I hope it is alright, but I decided to post my Hemingways over on the contest thread as examples to the contest authors.
