I'm sorry if this has already been a thing, but seriously, Doctor Who. One of the best shows ever. Even just the longevity of it (33 season total) is absolutely astounding. David Tennant is my favorite Doctor hands down, but they are all amazing so its hard to choose.

Ooooh I think the Borg will assimilate the Doctor. Or the Replicators will get him. :P

l love Doctor Who! Especially the episodes Blink, The Eleventh Hour, and Closing Time. :D Matt Smith/Eleven is my favorite.

Has anyone seen the Classic Who episodes? I've seen a couple with Four and Five and one with Seven. I love the TV movie with Eight/Paul McGann. :D Kinda cheesy... but fun.

I've seen a few classic Who, and its totally a thing I need to see more of. I've also seen the McGann movie which was hilariously bizarre but weirdly good.

Ooh, Who-ness!

I ran away from DW for a very long time--ask Amanda--and I am quite proud of just how long I managed to hold out. But now I love it. My dad grew up watching Baker--the best of th eold Doctors, hands down--and my sister got into it a couple years ago. My Dad insisted on making us watch the old ones and I was like 'okay, it has some funny moments but...seriously?' and so when my sister brought home Eleven's first season I wandered off elsewhere.

And thne I saw the first half of the Eleventh Hour quickly followed by Ten's Christmas special 'The Next Doctor', and then Eleven's Christmas Carol story. And, yeh...I fell in love.

Ten is my favorite. Of the classic Doctors, I like One a bit, Two a bit better, like Three, love Four, Five is pretty good, Six I pretend never existed (sorry), Seven was good, Eight (the 'American' Doctor) was okay but we Americans messed with him WAY too much. I finally got to see Nine and I like him okay, but Ten and Eleven are the best. (Finally seeing Eleven's first season for real now)

Can't wait for the 50th!

(Oh, and either Donna or Clara are my favorite companions. I used to say Rose was my favorite, but thne I watched more episodes and met River and my reaction was 'Rose who?'.) :dieshappy: ;)

So, the 12th Doctor was announced today. Thoughts?

I, for one, am extremely excited to have an older doctor. It will give us a new perspective, a throw back to the old days of Who, and it will stop making every female on the show fall in love with the Doctor which was kind of getting annoying. Plus, it will make the age difference between the Doctor and River less weird too. River, I think, will be very excited that the Doctor no longer looks like a child. :p

I like him! (I don't watch Dr Who or anything, but hanging around with certain people I – ahem – sort of end up knowing quite a bit about it.) He looks quirky and cool, and I also like him being older.

I will miss Matt Smith. :'( But I'm fine with Peter Capaldi... I'm going to give him a chance. I was a bit surprised by him being older at first.

I'm ready for an older doctor again.
maybe now all the companions won't fall for him as much. :/
I thought Sylvester Mccoy did a good job as a older mentor/father figure.

What is the best DW episode to start off on? I hear so many people talking about DW these days, but I tried a couple of episodes and didn't enjoy them. When I told my friend which ones I tried, she said I'd started off on two not so good ones. So I'm willing to give it a try again, but thought I'd ask which are the best ones to start off on.

Which two did you start off on? I would start off at the beginning of Christopher Eccleston's season (Season 1 of the New Series), but the first couple episodes (episodes 1-5) are kind of weak. The problem is, those are kind of necessary to follow the plot and they help you get to know the characters. If you get through to episode 9 and still don't like it, I would suggest jumping to season 5 and starting there. Then, once you are committed to the series, you can try some of the earlier episodes again. Or, I suppose, you could jump straight to season 5 and ignore season 1-4 until you are ready or a DW purist.

Eleven is my favorite! He is just... a lot of fun! And he has a great sense of what is "cool". :D I think that having an older 12th doctor will be good, getting back to the show's roots. The Doctor was not originally a romantic figure, and even though the recent Doctors are young and cool, I think they picked the right last Doctor. I am probably going to cry at the Christmas special, when Eleven dies. :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

The first one I watched was about angels - or something like that (it was a while ago now on the Iplayer), and the other was about Winston Churchill.

I'll bear that in mind, thanks! All my friends on HW and here seem to be fans of DW, so I'm beginning to feel like I'm missing out big time.

Sian and so many HWers have finally pulled me in too, I think. I don't know whether to be shocked and horrified or happy about this fact. Anyway, everyone goes on about DW so much, I saw the 50th anniversary episode on the BBC I player, decided to watch it and really enjoyed it - it was so much fun! So now I'm going back through some other episodes and watching them too.

Who else saw the 50th anniversary episode?

I saw it! I absolutely loved it, though Eleven reminded me very much of a good friend of mine.

And yeah, Sian was one of the people who got me into DW as well. XD

It was good! Better than the 50th I think. I cried, not gonna lie. And I'm glad we finally have those loose ends tied up going all the way back to season 5.

Okay, I'm not going to sit here and geek out for forever, but I will comment.

The 50th was wonderful. I got to see it in Theater. I might have even dressed up as the Doctor's Daughter and went with my dad who dressed as Four, but that's another story. I love Ten, and I absolutely adored the part at the end with you-know-who.

And the Christmas special was also wonderful, if a bit sad-but how could they avoid that? I love them both. A lot. I'm a bit of a fan girl.

One: you are soooo lucky!!! And you're right: the Fourth is the best Classic Doctor. He's also the best Doctor - but I seem to be in the minority there.... And it was so surprising when he showed up as the Caretaker!!!!

Seriously. If I listed everything about the show that I liked, I would never stop. Ever. So I'll attempt to summarize.

My favorite Doctor is the Fourth - although the Eleventh and the Ninth are very close. Rose (as the Ninth's companion and not as the Tenth's), Leela, and Romana I are my favorite companions (I haven't decided about Clara yet...). I've watched all of the 2005 series and nearly all of the Classic Doctors except for the Eighth and the Second.

Speaking of which, just how bad is the Doctor Who movie? It would make it easier to watch another Doctor, and I want to watch all of them...

I was so surprised to so Capaldi as the Doctor, because they've all been younger for a while now. I'm not really worried about his presentation for two reasons. One: he's a fan of the Doctor himself. Two: it's hard for the basic essence of the Doctor unless the writers have let their intelligence take a leave of absence.

Only three days left!!! Maybe I can find a way to watch it live online...

What does everyone think of the new Doctor (Capaldi) and this series? :)

Capaldi! :dieshappy:

I really like Capaldi. I know a lot of people don't, but I understand his thinking. People say he's heartless and things, but you can see he cares very deeply, he just has to make very difficult choices. I love it.

Also, he reminds me of my mom. I live with that sense of humor.

I think the new series of Doctor Who is showing much more promise than the last series. I wasn't keen on the last series, but I am really enjoying this one, and am rather liking Capaldi as well.
