Are you a songwriter or musician and want to be a part of the Fantasy Music Project? Post below with a list of skills, including whether or not you can perform music or only write it, what instruments you play and your skill level on each (Including voice), and if you have access to any kind of recording equipment. Keep chatter in this thread to a minimum, please. This will be our general index of who does what to avoid having to repeat ourselves throughout the whole project.

Thank you!

I can perform and compose, though I'm a beginner when it comes to composition. My dad has equipment that can make high-quality recordings. Also, we have keyboards with a wide range of sounds, so I can record synthy stuff if need be.

I play piano at early advanced level and violin at an advanced beginner/early intermediate level. (My vibrato is still wobbly but I can multi-track for orchestral-type songs.) I have access to a harpsichord and electric violin.

I have music notation software so I can transcribe handwritten music for readability or notate simple melody lines from recordings. I'd rather not do a lot of this, though. I'd rather be practicing an instrument. :D

I'm not sure how much I can help, Vanya. I don't play the piano anymore; I sing a little, but it's more of a hobby than anything professional, and although I am trying to buy some recording equipment there is no saying if/when I would have it. I'd love to help out, I'm just not sure if there's anything I could help out with.

I mainly just compose, and I write music and lyrics, with most of my compositions being pop/rock. I can also play guitar at a lower intermediate level.

Given notice so that I can practice, I'm alright on the piano. Unfortunately I have no recording equipment or music writing skills. I took a few years of music theory so I'm handy at transposing and the "grammatical" side of music. If I have recordings, I can translate music into written form.

I can't speak for her, but if needed, I can ask my sister to help out. She's a better piano play than I, takes voice lessons and knows people with recording equipment.

I can play piano but cannot compose songs. I am a moderate player, but not professional at all. I probably can have access to recording equipment.

I'd say I could probably be a "back up" in piano if other pianists wouldn't be able to play.

Count me in!

I can write songs, both instrumental and lyrical.

I can play guitar. (Intermediate.)

I can play mandolin. (Beginner.)

I can also sing. (Advanced, both melody and harmony.)

I have access to recording equipment. (I also have access to a professional sound mixing program, though no one in my family knows how to use it.)

I could probably write harmonies, too, though I've never actually tried. But Terra has, and I can recruit her. ;)

I wish I could do more for this...
As mentioned, I could write lyrics. However, I am not a composer, so writing the actual music would have to be for someone else.
I play piano and clarinet. There are limits to my clarinet ablilties, but I can take a look at music for clarinet. (Clarinets are B-flat instruments, like trumpets. My middle C is a B-flat on the piano. Just for anyone composing.)
As for recording, there's not much I can do. Right -I'm musically talented, but probably wouldn't be able to help because I have no high quality recording equipment. The best I could do would be to ask around at church to see if anyone knows of equipment I could use. But I can try.

I'll try and get out some lyrics for you composer-types to play with.

(Okay, so don't ask me why it took me so long to find this project existed. o.O)

I'd like to be a part of this project! :D

My skills consist of:

Piano, moderately advanced.

Guitar, moderate.

Harmonica, erm... I picked this up on my own, and can play pretty much any tune, if you pick a key that I have.

I do have the means of recording, however it isn't the highest quality.

I can't compose or write music worth peanuts. :P But my skills (however small) are here if you need them. :D

I can also sing, though I'm not the best... it depends on what key/tune/song it is. It's a case by case. Sometimes I'm horrible, sometimes I'm fairly good. I wouldn't call myself great by any means, though.

Also, I have purchased the New iPad which may come in handy with recording and audio editing.

I really hope I can help out with this, but it will probably depend on how stressful school is at the time. :)

Anyway, I can play high level piano - pretty much anything if you give me time to work on it. But the only means of recording I have are my Macbook... and I've never tried to record piano with it before, so I'm not sure how the sound would turn out. However, my church has a very high-quality keyboard, which my church's music minister has used to record music (somehow).

I write a bit of lyrics and sing them, but I do not write music. So I could possibly join up with someone who wanted to write the music but not the lyrics. In other words, I am a backup, if needed. :)

I have a decent-ish voice, but not a bunch of experience singing. I'm not so bad with other people, but my voice doesn't do well in solos...

I play guitar moderately well. :D

I play piano at a very, very beginner level. :P

I do not have access to recording equipment.

I can write lyrical songs.

My composing skills are not advanced at all, I'm afraid. :P

*shrugs* I can sing if anyone needs me. I must not be too horrible. God - and my parents for that matter - haven't stopped me when I'm making a joyful noise. ;) My voice is kind of higher pitched too and I have next to no experience singing, but I figure I'll throw out the offer anyway.

Also I can be a standby if anyone needs me for helping with lyrics. Other than that, I'm not going to be much help. I'm not very musically inclined.

My talent is voice. I can sing (high soprano) and I can do harmony. I know how to write down music (simple music), so I could make up harmony parts if someone wanted to turn his song into a duet or quartet or something.
However, I have no access to high-quality recording equipment, so I can't lend my actual voice. But I'd be happy to help in other ways.

I notice that the Holy Worlders here play a variety of instruments. If someone wanted an ensemble for a song, couldn't we each make a recording of an individual part and send it in, then someone mix the tracks so it sounds like we're playing together?

I think how it's done is one player (say, the piano) records his part, then the others listen to it on headphones and play their parts along with it. (Is that true?)

From my recording experiences (I've recorded two CDs in two different studios with my family), it's something like that. Though I've never done it from long distances, but the approach could be similar. I know it can be done effectively, as I've heard it discussed and done by professionals.

Recordings of each song went like this: The scratch track, which is a rough recording, mainly for 'scratch vocals', which would be disposed of later once the final tracks are recorded. The musicians would then play to the scratch track, first the instrumental, then the vocal tracks (if any). All instruments and vocals would generally be isolated from each other, and recording is always done to a metronome.

But this is kinda off topic. o.O *subsides*

Yes, though helpful and informative. ;) For now, at least, I think questions and discussion like this should go on this other thread: viewtopic.php?f=145&t=930

I play piano at an advanced level with time to practice. I also play flute at a beginner-intermediate level. I do not have access to recording equipment. I have done some arranging, but it takes me a long time and I'm not very good.

Like I said in the original thread, I have FL Studio and I can mix the tracks together, apply effects, and add ambients (if necessary).

With FL Studio, I can compose tracks of any instrument (there are about 1,000). Keep in mind that a human playing a physical instrument sounds a lot better than a computer generated one. But if we are absolutely desperate for a certain instrument that no one here has/plays, I can compose it.

When it comes to real instruments, I can play piano at an intermediate level. I can also write lyrics. I own a guitar that I never learned how to play, so I guess that won't help any

I am not half that bad at writing lyrics, but my most useful skill to this project is probably
a very high tenor range.
I am working on pushing my range up towards boy-soprano, but that is a well above me right now. So I am a good singer, and I believe I have the capacity for above-average recording of myself. And I'd be glad to supply the voice.
I am working with my bro to see about writing/performing songs with him, since he is excellent on the piano.

I don't mind helping out however I can. :) I have one song that some HWers have nominated, I can sing alright, I can sortof play piano, though there are sure to be plenty of people who would be better for that. :D I have nice audio editing software (Cubase 4) as well as a digital orchestra that I'd be willing to use to help out with. :)

I can play acoustic guitar at a beginner/intermediate level, and I can sing both melody and harmony. I can play piano chords. I can play recorder very well-I hear a song and after practicing for 10 minutes at the most I can play it even without knowing the notes ^-^ I wrote a song (which is why Lady Eva suggested this to me) for my book, it's kind of melancholy-it's a burial song. I have a tentative chord pattern for it, and I've got the voice notes down pat, but I may need some help with a key change somewhere so it's not too redundant. I don't think I have access to recording equipment, not good recording equipment. Does anyone know how to enhance a somewhat not-professional recording?

Hem. I know I'm a newcomer here but this project's so amazing I'd love to help in some way if I could...
I compose (using Sibelius) and write lyrics.
I also play piano, flute, piccolo and sing a little but I don't have any access to proper recording so I suppose they wouldn't do much.
I know it's nothing compared to the professionals on here! But if there is any way I could be of help though, I would love to. :D

Piano:
Both piano and drums I have been graduated by my teacher from learning. I suppose I am "accomplished" on piano. I can pretty much play anything put before me. I am mainly a player by ear. I have composed a few pieces and ready to make some more!

Drums/Percussion:
I do not supposed drums would be too terribly useful for composing and making songs. Though, just in case... I can do anything if need be on this. And my best area is taking a song and figuring out what would suit the song and complement the other sounds.

Percussion:
This would add an amazing feel to any song, congas, bongos, shakers giros, cowbell, triangle, chimes... I can do pretty much anything with these.

Guitar:
The guitar, I picked up around after last Summer. With the help of two very good guitarists I know, and YouTube; I have been able to learn a lot in a little time. I know most chords, most concepts, and a whole bunch of riffs. I've also experimented with composing on the guitar! :dieshappy:

Harmonica:
Though I have lost my harmonica... I could follow a tune pretty well on it! And I made some stuff too!

Violin:
I am teaching myself here... I quite frankly have no clue what I'm doing, but I have one, and I can hit the notes pretty well. Nothing too pretty or fancy though... teehee

______________________________________________

I don't sing, I don't know if I can't sing well, but I simply do not sing

Composing-wise I suppose I am quite learned on everything. I am the son of a worship Pastor, so I know how things should sound.

Recording device-wise; I have inadequate supplies. But I do have some, they are not perfect microphones though. At least not as good as I would like :dieshappy:

I fiddle. I mean, not on a fiddle... * grins * ...on everything else. I've tried composing, piano, and singing. I have not the slightest idea how good I am at singing, I am pretty bad on piano, and I have never finished a song in composing, besides never having learned anything about it (there is stuff you're supposed to learn about composing, right?). I taught myself how to read notes, and I'm pretty good at that, but I think that is all I could say I do proficiently (unless it is singing). And reading notes to people wouldn't be very helpful, would it? Anyway, I would be glad to help anyway I could.

I don't know about our recording. I think we have way to do it decently.

I would like to help with this, time permitting of course.

I play piano fairly well, mostly in the classical style. I can learn new pieces fairly well if they're not overly complicated.

I can also play recorder: Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, whatever, though I'm not terribly good.

I have a halfway decent voice and I can sing melody, and harmony (Tenor or Bass) if I practice my part a lot.

I can compose songs but only if they don't have lyrics.

I do have access to recording equipment, not great but not horrible, which can either play a song or lay out the musical notation of a piece. I also have a keyboard (albeit a dying one) that can imitate a multitude of instruments.

I play piano moderately well, though the only piano I have access to is 100+ years old, very clickety-clackety, and with several sticky keys. I have access to a church piano in a big auditorium, too, though, so if you need anything echoey....

I can write some poetry, and I'm pretty good with tunes, but don't ask me to come up with anything beyond a basic song, because I've tried that and I'm horrible at it. So, no piano pieces or anything.

I can sing, but I'm very much a novice. I have had no training at all besides what mom tells me, so take that however you want.

I have a friend or two with virtual orchestras who compose film scores, and I can contact them for help if anyone wants.

I hesitate to volunteer her without asking, but my mom sings. Really well. She's had voice training of some kind (I don't remember what) but she has a great range and great volume too (comes from all the yelling at us ;) ). At church she always sings the harmonies, and I'm always amazed.

So, here are our meager abilities. :salute:

*pokes thread*

Is this still going on? 'Cause I do a lot of lyrical stuff...I'd be willing to contribute. I can also sing, after a fashion, and I play acoustic, electric and bass guitar.
(I lack decent recording equipment, though).

If anyone's still organizing this...

*coughs* I composed a song for piano, cello, and trumpet that A. needs words and B. needs players.
As I mentioned before, I can sing, and play guitar. My piano is really old and broken. :P
I also lack decent recording equipment.

Can't help you with the playing. :( And since I can't read music and 'hear' it in my head, can't help much with the words until someone helps you with the playing. :P

I posted here over a year ago saying that I couldn't play guitar. Now I have an electric guitar and I'm doing pretty good with it. No decent recording equipment, but at the least I could buy one of those fancy USB connectors if we need some electric guitar.
