Chopin seems to be a reoccurring discussion. So rather than find threads to derail, lets just start a thread!

Do you play piano? How well? Who's your favorite composer?

Do you play Chopin? How well? What pieces?

And so on and so forth.

My dad plays a lot of his Polonaises but I'm not that great of a pianist so I stick to Preludes and Nocturnes. I can, however, play the all-famous much-talked of Marche Funebre or Funereal March; about half way through. (That's where the tone changes and there are too many notes for my poor fingers to keep up with.)

I've never liked to practice so I've never been very good, and when I started playing harp I all but abandoned piano except for composing purposes. But I love a lot of the classical pieces and I'll play them through without ever practicing and as a result I'm a very good sightreader.

I do not play piano. My sister does beautifully. She hasn't gotten into complex pieces, but she is good. I just thought I'd brag on her.

I don't have a good idea of how well I can play though. I can play pretty much whatever I like without too much frustration. (unless it involves 6 flats plus accidentals...) So I can't play like a CD (I've had no concert piano training) but I can play pretty decently. Good enough to teach, anyhow.

My favorite composers are Debussy, Ravel, and Chopin. Plus random. ;D Rachmanninoff and Shostakovitch are cool but they don't really do much piano (and their music is harder to find because it's more modern) Oh yeah, and I like John Williams and Howard Shore when I can afford to buy the piano transcriptions. (I also like some neoclassical/newage composers but haven't been able to get any sheet music for that)

I can play Chopin, yes. I like preludes (Raindrop esp.) and Polonaises (can't remember title) and the Funeral March. I also like the books I have of arrangements of classical + carols or hymns, including a strong dose of Chopin... and some pieces in those books that I haven't been able to find anyplace else like some etudes.

Oh yeah, Nocturnes... I can play some, but there is one that I haven't practiced but my mom can play so well.... someday I'll get to it.

I don't play piano. But I love listening to it. I write to it, fall asleep to it, listen to on the radio, and even skate to it. I think Chopin is probably my favorite, with Bach in there somewhere, and I LOVE this prelude. It's not piano, I guess, but it's so pretty!

I'm not a all that much of a fan of modern or rock music, so I just love classical. Did I say that already? Maybe I did. Well, then I love it enough to mention it twice!

Anyway, that was me being curious as to what was on page 8 and finding this.

I like some of Chopin; I really like Rachmaninov, he's probably my favourite composer.

I've been playing piano for about 11 years. I love it... it's probably my favorite thing to do, along with writing. But I can play pretty well; that kind of just happens when you've been playing since you were 5.

I'm not playing any Chopin right now, but I've played some of his pieces before. I played a gorgeous Nocturne last year, and a Mazurka a few years ago. One of my friends played this fantaisie impromptu, and it's one of my favorite pieces by Chopin... I would love to play it one day.

My favorite composers are probably Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Brahms. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 is another piece I really, really want to play. I'm hoping I can play it next year, but I'm not sure if I can yet.

Right now, I'm playing... a lot. I have a ridiculously loud, bangy (and fun ) polonaise by Macdowell, the middle movement of a Beethoven concerto, a Bach prelude, a Schubert duet, a Faust Quartet, a Bach quartet, and a couple other ensemble pieces. But I love having that much music; it means I'm never bored!

I take piano classes, and I ADORE them! My uncle is a famous pianist actually, but I doubt you have heard of him. His name is Atlan Cruz. Not sure who my favorite composer is though...

Anyway, this is one of the best threads I've come upon, and I'm so glad I found it. I've been playing the piano for a long, long, long, long, long time. Not that time has drastically improved my skills, but I'm not terrible.

I know several Chopin songs, ranging from Mazurkas to a Nocturne to a Polonaise and some other things. My favorite composers for piano would have to be Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and Handel. Oh, and Liszt, even though I can't play him.

I know several rather obscure pieces as well. I just love classical music in general, and I wish my talent could keep up with my aspirations. But alas...

I love Chopin and I love piano! I have been playing piano for 17 years! I have played some of Chopin's Mazurkas, Preludes, Nocturnes, Etudes, and even a Ballade. My very favorite Chopin piece is his Etude op. 10 no. 9. It is gorgeous!

I haven't learned any Chopin though. I don't think I'm "advanced" enough for that.

My favorite composer would have to be either Mozart (shocker, right?) or Lecuona.
