My family, extended and immediate, is going to Disney World, and the idea doesn't much appeal to me. I am introverted. I hate being where lots of people are, and I sometimes just dislike popular things. But I want to show my appreciation to my family, and participate in a good way with the family while we're there. Dad suggested I ask on here what people think would be good to do.
What do you all recommend to a writer, introvert, person, thing, who isn't interested in big rides or normal attractions and stuff? Anything that would appeal to a fantasy writer?

Narrate the entire trip in your head?

Awww, Wolferl, I feel for you. Being an introvert as well, I've never enjoyed going to amusement parks and such. When I have to go to one, and I don't like the rides (because I never ride anything except the Ferris Wheel and only if the park is about to close for the day), I just walk around and people-watch and get inspiration from characters there. Unless there is a nice, quiet ride somewhere (though I rather doubt it ).

I was facing the same dilemma a few weeks ago because our choir is going some place and they all want to go to a Disney-themed amusement park, too. Well, fortunately, we can take charge of our own schedules so I'll be roaming the streets and exploring the culture of the city instead. It's much more suitable to my tastes. Would you be able to do that, or do you have to stay within the Disney World park?

*waves hand* I've never been to Disney on an extended trip, but let's just say I'm not big on rides. *cough* Usually my Mom and I (she likes rides, but they make her motion sick ) will go to Epcot. It's like a giant, cultural..place. Architecture, a few ride-ish type things, and generally cool culture stuff. Plus, they have a cool fireworks display thing at night. I've never been to the Animal Kingdom, but I hear it is cool; it could have similar research potential.

People watching and narrating are good too. I think (and this works for me; every person is different) that just looking and observing stuff can help... The monorail system is really cool, there are lots of bright colors, and if you walk around and think about stuff it can help.

I can really sympathize with you there. I hate going to huge fairs and such. Hate the noise, too shy to go on the rides, and would rather stay home and write. XD

I would say...just think of it as an adventure. A chance to watch people and see something new. And try to have fun. I like the idea of narrating things in your head.

Haha; I ended up doing something like that when I went there a couple years ago.

When my family went to Disneyland, I brought a bag big enough to carry a book in, for standing in lines, but of course, I love rides, so that wasn't much of a problem for me.
Do some research into the disney stories. It's interesting when you know the stories behind the rides, and if you have little siblings or cousins, you could tell them the stories.

I might have to try that. xD

I don't know if this will help, but I think that to push yourself out of the normal comfort zone can be really character building. I know it's difficult, I'm a more introverted person, but recently I've been trying to get out more, and do things that I would normally shy away from. I think it can really make one grow in character etc. The more you do, the more you'll get used to it. It's hard when you're doing something that you don't enjoy, and that makes you feel uncomfortable. But I do think it's character building. I don't know if this is helpful at all. But there.
