I had an idea for a story about two families. One of the families is a brother and sister, and the other family is made up of the parents, 2 boys, and one girl. The story would follow the two families lives. This wasn't originally fantasy, but recently I was thinking that I could have one or two of my MCs have this world that they have made up that they play as a game that might parallel to what is going on in their lives.

I would probably have all kinds of good and bad things happen to my characters. a few might be killed off... I haven't really tried that before. ;)

Would this story be counted as fantasy? Would it be interesting? Any thoughts, questions, and comments are welcome. This is a rough idea, and it needs development. :D

That sounds really cool :) I think it could be considered fantasy, yes. I don't have any questions at the moment, but I will ask them when I think of some.

All right. If it counts as fantasy, that means I could work on it here, which is a good thing! I think it's Sir Emeth's call though.

Yeah, I think if done right it could be considered fantasy. Bridge to Terabithia is considered Fantasy, and it's the same basic thought process. Kids in this world use their imaginations and create their own. I think it counts Shawn.

(I was waiting for you to pop up! :D) Well, they won't travel to the world, they just imagine it. I'm not sure how big of a part it will play. Another thought I had was to set it in another world almost exactly like ours, but it didn't fit as well. :?

In BtT the kids don't actually travel to another world either. They swing across the river on a tire and pretend they've reached a magical land.

Oh. I haven't seen the movie or read the book. Oh boy, Shawn Henderson (the character) is not going to have a fun time for a while. ;)

I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie when I was watching a friend's children.

If anyone has any questions about what I have in store for my characters (Mwah-ha-ha! ;)), please ask. I essentially have their names, but I need to develop the plot line a lot.

Okay, here is my general outline in a roughed out fashion:

Shawn's parent's have died before the story starts. (I'm not entirely sure of this...) She and her older brother live in a town named _ with their "Aunt" (think foster care). They are good friends with the Lewis family. Then there are some small town events that are not planned out well yet, but include some of the fantasy part. Several years later, Kurt and Josh (Jay's big brother) are drafted/volunteer for the war in Vietnam. Kurt dies or goes MIA (I'm playing with this idea...), and Josh probably dies too. Shawn's "Aunt" decides she can't continue supporting Shawn and sends her back, where she ends up in some orphanage in another small town. Shawn was in 6th grade at that point, and then there is a jump to Jay's perspective about 6 or 7 years later, I'd say. Jay is an analyst at the NSA or some "spy" agency, and he and Shawn run into each other during one of his cases. Then, they "coincidentally" run into each other again, and then Jay asks her to marry him at some point, which she does. Then they have all these adventures involving agency work, and that's all I have.

Questions? Thoughts? Complaints about incoherence? ;)
