Hi there! :)

In this last year, I started a website called Verve Literary Awards. Blog readers were given the opportunity to vote in four categories for their favorite books. Three Holy World members won in Series, Independently Published, and Wild Card, respectively.
About a month ago, I had some HWers tell me that I should continue the Verve Awards again.
I'm a little ambivalent. I had a lot of volunteers for that project, and none of them helped out very much, except for a review. If I'm to do it again, I want to change the concept, categories, and how it all works. I'd also like to have more interesting content on the blog, and more personal reviews. But I can't do all that and respond to emails, search out good books to review, and keep up my own life as well.
Upon hearing this, I was given the go-ahead (quite a while ago  ) to ask for help here. I'm not asking for much, even if it's just some initial brainstorming and an hour of participation a month. You don't even have to be an official volunteer. But I want things to be a little more of a group project, instead of just me grasping at straws.
In 2013 I was thinking about focusing on Indie fiction, small imprint, and audiobooks. No matter what I want to stick to the concept of Realistic fiction, even if I have to review a few 'fantasy' books (apparently I'm an evil stick in the mud because I am not one who reads in that genre often, got a lot of ugly emails about that  ).

In closing, I'd like to beg on my knees one more time for someone to be my blog slave and post really eloquent things and spell better than me. And talk about books.

Thank you,
Jess

This sounds like a really fun idea, Jessie! I wish I could help. I might be able to do an occasional book review, but I can't volunteer more than that.

Jessie, Katie said that she thought I should interview you for the Podcast about the awards. I followed last time you did it, because I knew people in the categories.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

It's okay, Kathrina! You don't need to be a volunteer, but book reviews are more than welcome. :)

She told me about that. :) It sounds like it'd be fun!

I just wanted to bring this thread back up because I wanted to clarify that you don't need to volunteer to help out. I'd really like some help re-structuring the way the awards and blog work. If no one is interested in the VLA (like last year) then I'm not going to renew my url, because I don't have the money to spend on something that I will be unable to do. :/ If even a few people just did a little bit, I'd be able to accomplish the necessary goals to make it work. This isn't a guilt trip, just thought I'd clear that up a bit. ;)
