Welcome to week twenty-nine, fellow questers! :D
Your challenge this week is to write a 500+ word short story based on this picture and answer the following:
What is the man doing/where is he going?
What are the birds doing?
What is the lantern for?By 'answer these questions' I mean, show the answers somehow through the story. You can change the setting to an ocean, the man to a dwarf, the birds into eagles, etc. just retain the basic structure so you can answer the questions: Man, birds, lantern. (and keep the boat too) After that, let your imagination run wild, they might be in a war zone, or taking beans to market. The birds might be assassins... Have fun with it, whatever you do. ;)

Yes, the above is the product of my own insane brain--I don't want to cloud Raven's reputation with rumors that she came up with that preposterous challenge. It's just what happens when I don't have a lot of time to think up another goal, and I want to think of something original. ;) :dieshappy:
If you have any questions related to the challenge, ask them in the thread below.

Remember, in order to receive points for completing the weekly challenge, you MUST declare it by Monday at midnight.

As always...

The Rules wrote:
1. All challenges must be declared completed by midnight Saturday in your timezone (please specify your timezone when you sign up).
2. All challenges (personal or weekly) must be declared by midnight Monday in your timezone.
3. Personal challenges cannot be repeated.
4. The organizer reserves the right to veto any challenges that seem too simple. (i.e. writing a sentence)

If this is your first time on one of these quests, you'll need to see the initiation pamphlet.

Also, I would like to remind everyone that any weekly challenge pieces that are posted on the forum will be eligible to be featured in our newsletter. Please post a link in this thread if you would like it to be considered.

If you could write your sign-up post in a similar format to the following, it would be appreciated:
Goal: weekly challenge (or whatever you decide to do)
Timezone: PDT

WRITE! *sets off a rocket he swiped from NASA*

I'll think about it and add it on Monday if I come up with something.

In the meantime...

You come up with great challenges, Wolf. :D

Personal goal: Make a scene list for my potential NaNo novel
Timezone: CST

Said scene list might not be fully fleshed out, depending on if I run into plot holes that need fixing, but I'll at least get the rough cut together. In any case I'll at least work on the thing this week despite the other writing stuff I have going.

It'll be fun to see what people come up with for the challenge and how different they are from each other. :D (As long as they post their story in the fireside...hint hint ;))

Okay, I finished the short stories based off of pictures I was supposed to write.

Now I just need to send my letter to Jay, write a letter and send it to my friend, and finish the second story I wanted to write for this weekly challenge.

Okay, I finished the letters, I just need to send them!

And I might not be able to do the second weekly challenge. :( I'm entering a contest where the writing that gets the most votes wins... and the prize is 1000 dollars. This is huge, so I'm not doing any writing but the story for it. Partially because I was a fool and procrastinated so much, the deadline is in less than a week. :P

I have completed my goal and surpassed expectations on what I would get done. But oh, to knock off those two extra, pesky pages before tomorrow night! :P

*eyes cupcakes eagerly* Maybe I should wait to eat them until I finish those last couple pages, you know, for motivation. ;)

It'll depend on how early I can wrench myself out of bed, how much time I'll have on the computer, and how much motivation I'll have.

No cupcakes for me--I didn't meet my goal. :( I came down with a pretty nasty cold and didn't write most of the week. However, I was inspired with a totally new book idea tonight, so hopefully next week I can get back into the swing of it. :D

Personal goals complete! Now I can go to bed!

(Jeremiah, I'll post my short story from the challenge tomorrow. Too tired tonight!)
