I think I have decided. :D I'm going to work on developing the idea starting today. ^_^

When I write stuff, it's pretty much always cool.

It's really a simple story I pulled out of an in-progress world for a contest for the sake of not having to do worldbuilding with my co-writer.

Okay, so. Today I spent a number of hours agonizing over the plot points of TDW, and I got a lot accomplished. I was also able to work out some conflicts I was having in the time line and who was where and why.

There is still much more work to do, and I obviously have to write it all out into a story, but I have made good progress for the day.

So, what is my new goal?.... well... I'd like to get the next chapter finished by Friday... (8,000 words or so). It may not seem like a big goal, but if I can get over this hump, it will be.

I shall. Not much writing, at the moment, but I got a lot of plotting and scene outlines done.

Well, as of last week, I'm on the final book of my fantasy series. Things are moving along swimmingly at the moment, and I can only hope they continue to do so. My goal is to complete writing the book by the end of the year. It will be interesting because the holidays tend to be busy, and I'll have the added time-consuming task of keeping up with my first published book. But we shall see what happens.

Works in progress

The Skyriders Trilogy (outlining)

What Waits in Shadow (fantasy short story--editing)
The Stranger's Gift (fantasy short story--editing)
The Crystal Orb (fantasy short story--writing)
And too many half-started ideas to count

What is this series about? And did you say the first one will be published? :D Are you self-publishing or going traditional?

Well, I have been doing lots of rewrites. It has been highly productive and very satisfying. But not on the third book. :)

Basically, my heart wasn't in it, and I don't think you can write well without heart. Some people would argue with me and tell me to just force it out, but that's not the way I operate with my book. Sometimes I just don't feel like writing, and at those times I will push past it and keep writing, but not when I lack heart and desire. It makes for a crummy scene/chapter.

However, I did have drive to work on the rewrites I keep telling myself I will work on at some point. So that's what I am doing, and it is going swimmingly. It's hard, head throbbing work, but it is satisfying. :D I'm hoping to have three more chapters (6-8,000 words a piece) done before I leave for Nevada in 2 weeks.

Will do. :salute:

It's an epic fantasy, in the tradition of LOTR (though not nearly as good!). You can read the first 3 chapters over in the fireside.

Aubrey Hansen wrote:

Yep, in either late November or early December, pending editing and all the other details involved.

Aubrey Hansen wrote:

Self-publishing all the way. I'm going to start with an ebook, as that seems the most desirable route, see how things go, and hopefully branch out from there.

I have an aggressive (if not crazy) goal of becoming, I don't want to say famous writer, for fear of sounding boastful, but more than a I-do-this-because-I-like-it writer. Of course I love writing, but I would seriouly consider making it a career if my style proves worthy enough. We'll see how it goes.

I sent out lots of snail mail queries today, and repoked the agents who never replied back to my e-mail queries. :D It’s exhausting work, though. :P Especially if you have to tailor every query to the individual agent. And some want manuscripts for children's books, some don't. I not only had to fill out all the big 9x12 envelopes, I also had to fill out all the SASE's. Then I had to do all the postage, figure out the cost for that-

Long day. :D But a profitable one.

The real bugger will be when I have to do the queries for my trilogy, and that’s coming around the corner here soon. :P

Ah, but those are the best kind of long days! :D I'm so excited that you're in this stage. *is especially eager for the trilogy to get pitched and placed*

I fully support these goals of yours, Tarin, and I'm quite excited about them. :D Do let us know when your first book is published, please!

Yes, Aubrey book one. I have grown so much as a writer in the last 2 years, I thought it best to go back over the book one last time and do a few rewrites. Then it will be going to agents.

Which is scary... but so exciting.

*forgot her month-end update*

I finished the first chapter. ^_^ And it had double the word count I expected. ^^_^^

Goal for this month is to finish the majority of chapter two. We'll see how Thanksgiving messes that up. :P

Glad to know I'm not the only one. That happens to me on a regular basis: the chapters JUST WON'T DIE. In fact, I just finished a chapter today that I thought would be around 12 pages. 'Twas 17!

Oh, how shall I curb my wordiness? :P

You don't. You divide your chapters up further after they're written to make them manageable. Or at least that's what I had to do with Peter's Angel. My scenes got longer every time I touched them.

Zoeee writing! ^_^ *gives a fresh supply of cupcakes for October's writing*

I decided to rewrite Book 3 of my series over from scratch. 20K before November! Wheeeeee.....

Then in November I'm writing Books 5 and 6. Meanwhile I'll be finishing rewrites and formatting on Book 1 and working on revision for Book 2.

Busy schedule. Sounds familiar, too familiar. Be sure to keep us updated. :)

I met my goal, and I am still a few days away from leaving!!! So I'm on chapter 7 now, and I hope to get some more done before I leave.

Thanks. :D I'm hoping to get 2 chapters done today, if I work steadily, with some break times scattered through there.

I finished Book 3 again. 20,333 words - in less than seven days. It feels like it's been longer, and it's all very strange... writing that fast...

Now I'm not sure what to do with myself. At some point I've got to do something with Book 2, and I should also put together a decent outline for Book 5 and maybe figuring out what Book 6 is about would be a good idea.
