I stumbled upon this page today while searching the forum and thought it could be really helpful ...if it was up-to-date and ordered in a way that made sense.

We could make the Where Marcher Lords and Moderators are Working threads obsolete! :D (I never remember where those are anyways...)

Speaking of locations: where the link to this page is located could probably get moved to a better location. It's quite inconspicuous at the bottom of the Forum Index page.

Personally I think the 'Where Marcher Lords and Moderators are Working' should be left on the forums as they are; they're a global announcement so whatever forum you go on they will be there at the top of the page. I think it's important that they can be on hand easily. We could use both maybe? What were you thinking the Team page could be changed to, Sui? Because also mods, MLS etc come and go or change work places etc, so it's easy to change and edit the where they work page currently; whereas we'd have to bug Andrew whenever we wanted them changed if they were on The Team page.

Global Announcements are handy in that they're everywhere, but their placement and the finickiness of their "Marked as Read" status makes it a plague for me to remember where they are and if I've read them or not -- but perhaps that's just me.

Maybe.

Not really changing it much. The basic setup of the page is almost perfect -- it just needs reordering and updating (it's not accurate at the moment). The link that takes one to that page could be more prominent and/or in a more prominent position (and therefore easier to spot), but that's not necessary.

That's a good point about bugging Andrew... I know nothing about techy stuff, but other than the reordering of the page, it don't think it would be too difficult to just replace some text (could be wrong though :D). Perhaps this is a project that should wait 'til Andrew gets some help?

Since Andrew is so busy, I am going to attempt to explain this... If HW is anything like other forums I've fiddled with. However, my knowledge is limited, so someone can correct me.

The moderators on HW can use their powers (Moving, splitting topics, merging, etc) throughout the whole forum, though they work in specific place as assigned by the group leader. Which is why we use the "Where MLs and Mods are working" thread. With forums, when promoting someone, you can give them powers in such a way that they can only use them in a specific place (Like a mod might only have mod powers over the Arts Guild). Then the "The Team" page shows where they have their powers.

Since HW doesn't do this, "The Team" page shows where they have powers, and since people have powers over the whole forum, the result is it saying "All Forums" though they only work in a specific place.

Whether it is possible to edit that text without changing the powers of the mods, I don't know, but at least I think that is why "The Team" displays as it does.

(Now, the real question is if that actually made sense. )

We could change their permissions directly, yes :) Though...without setting the permissions individually for each moderator (meaning they'd not be able to moderate (to help out) in another room temporarily), I don't think that text can be changed, unfortunately.

Andrew
